This is so sad, may his soul rest in peace, and his family comforted in their time of grief.
dominicans drivers please slow down ans exercise more caution on our roads. i am not implying that in this particular case that there was speed, hoever the passenger buses that d this route most of the go too fast, but again the passengers allow it.

The authorities who have mentioned about an Action Plan, this is another matter and a good example to consider that passengers/workers should not be driving at the back of an open van/bus. Make it the Law that all drivers and passengers should “buckle up”; wear a seat belt. We do know that it is for their safety.

can’t you people think before you make comments? This is an accident, both parties involve are in pain, whether physical or emotional. we are all human and likely to end up in such situations. Imagine you being that Truck Driver. Imagine you being the injured or dead one in the accident. Both families suffer. Stop, think or shut up…

A Police Officer doing what he was trained to do is even a problem? You people need a cure.

RIP young man. May heaven’s Angels escort you to Paradise. To the families, be comforted and find strength in God.

To the Driver & Family, Be strong and let The Lord be your guide… Ignore the negatives. God is the judge and he knows the truth.

You see what happens when we take the attitude “it’s just an accident”? If people know they will pay a stiff price for their negligence, they will tend to be more careful.

How many times have you seen drivers, even bus drivers drive like they are on a racetrack? They put people’s lives at risk knowing full well if an “accident” happens they will walk scott free. If a few of them were to be made to spend a good 15 years in prison for negligent homicide, they would take a bit more care. All these “accidents” can be avoided because they are caused by human error.

all u people are so not Godly. all u can think of is payback. people die every day. ask yourself this. In life we want and have to have a reason as to why someone died. If we didn’t have a reason we will still try to find one and see that someone pays. humans, want someone to spend 15 years for an accident. does anyone know how the driver feel? My brother was stabbed so many times. Did anyone seek justice then. that wasn’t an accident. Just plain evil.

Poor child. The adult world of Dominica continues to fail the youth. fail fail fail! He should never have been allowed to ride in the back in the first place. My uncle never allowed me to ride in the back of his pick-up no matter how I beg. He would always say its too dangerous. Also I think I remember him saying something about against the law and insurance.

    So sad.

@anonymous While we know that riding at the back is dangerous, please note that 18 years is not a child’s age but an adult. So which adult caused the failure?

Are you serious? this young man put his faith in the hands of a driver by riding on the back of an open pickup and you blaming the entire adult population of Dominica? woaw…..It is obviously easier to blame someone for other people mistakes instead of accepting the inevitable. The driver of the truck is a singer from CHOEB, which is why they did not state that in the article, but im sure if it was someone else, they would have stated it. Just like how they posted pics of the guy that crashed on the bike in Mahout, why didnt they post a pic of the truck? why didnt they say who the truck driver was? because that driver is recieving an award for some music thing? nonsense…

They have no regards for pedestrians, visitors or other vehicles on the road. Something needs to be done. As it is the roads are already dangerous. Where could they possibly be going that requires such a rush. You live in the islands man, take it easy. A life lost due to carelessness cannot be repaid. Agreed! Today there are many vehicles on the road and many more accidents than in previous years. It is unsafe to ride at the back of an open vehicle. In the event of an impact the person could be thrown from the vehicle. This is what occurred to the teenager which led to his death. It is so sad. This practice should be banned.

If the traffic and transport board or whichever is responsible take their responsibility seriously instead of just talking (like) last weeks road safety week…and do more action..there would be more responsible drivers..guadeloupe has less accidents because ppl who speed the highways or overtake in the wrong places and go over the speed limit are ticketed ..u don’t pay and ur ticket doubles til u reach a limit and they take the money from ur acct or locks ur acct til u pay..lives r being lost cus ppl r greedy to make money running the road and poor passengers r afraid to say slow down cus drivers r so unpolite..truck drivers(long truckers) speed past even overtaking ..I haVe soo much to say on this topic it makes me angry cus the laws r jus not being enforced on this island

Accidents happen cannot be an excuse particularly when we see the gross level of negegence by motorists. I have seen soe trucks on the rad , the condition of the tires is crazy.
I sympathize with the victims family however when these accidents happen we must not e afraid to talk about the negligence and laid back attitude in our country. We can save lives by calling things by their names.
I still see trucks driving around with unprotected loads – no covers. Fellas driving these trucks with tires thin as toilet paper. My questionis what is the traffic department role in road safety.
    I see bus drivers go to the bar to have 1 or 2 beers then get behind the wheel to carry passengers. I see bus drivers on their cell phone. I see bus drivers overtaking Indiscriminately; motorcyclist on the road without head protective gear;

Y’all to sort and badminded!! u look for all minor shit to sa negative about people. he lookign scruffy my foot. the man is assisting with an accident. y’all know what the bigger issue at hand is? The truck driver should be sighted for negligent homicide.Truck drivers in dominica have to realise that a truck especially if it’s loaded should be driven with great care especially on wet mountainous roads of dominica.I have seen these dump trucks driven around dominica and it’s ridiculous. This accident could have been prevented.

Hmmm this is so tru..truck drivers drive really crzi on the highway..we don’t. Seem to have any traffic laws on this island. No speed limit on the roads. No highway patrol. We r so lucky accidents r few on the E.O Leblanc highway cus its always a scary ride from portsmouth to roseau..always..traffic or transport board get the laws enforced. Ticket those who speed ex cessively and wrecklessly, ticket those who overtake carelessly..u will make thousands of dollars per day cus that’s exactly how majority of our drivers roll..startn with trucks and busdrivers..

Being alive, how could you avoid sad news? You should reside in the U.S., Canada or Europe. Then consider what occurred in Bangladesh and whatever else occurs throughout the world as relayed through the Media and Internet. As long as there are people in the world, there will always be accidents and sad news. Some of it may be negligence, willful or not. That is life. Where will you hide from sad news?
A week ago a married man with a wife and baby was murdered in Ontario. He advertised his truck for sale On Line. Two men came to his home with the intention (wickedly, unknown to him of course)saying that they are interested and want to test the truck. He went in the truck with them saying to his wife, “I’ll see you soon”. The end result is they murdered him and burnt his body. His remains were found a day or so ago.
Another man said that he had also placed his vehicle for sale On-Line. Those men came to his home and did the exact thing but the man is a burly one and they did not harm him. He gave the police a description of one of those men who has a tattoo. He was caught. Another or others are at large. Who knows? They may be caught soon or in time. The dead man’s truck was recovered in a container in the murderer’s mother’s yard. The police did a good job so far of at least catching one.
In discussing this sad situation with someone tonight we agreed that there are some wicked people in the world and it is depressing to hear and read of this. How sad it is for especially the man’s wife. She pleaded for his return but to no avail. I visualize that, no doubt, the man pleaded for his life but those murderers paid no heed.
What occurred today in Salisbury is an accident and as sad as it is a young man lost his life, consider what happened to that man. I pray that God had mercy on his soul and also for his wife and relatives. It is no easy matter for them.
If you are a practicing Christian, the only solution is to pray and hoping that God had mercy on the soul of this young man. Pray for his soul. Pray also for his grieving relatives that God will strengthen them.
Do you know the Serenity Prayer? If you sincerely pray you will find some solace and strength which God will grant you as you hear and read of these sad news. Pray also for the eradication of accidents and general crimes in DA and even in the world. So much more could be stated. Pray for peace and serenity. God’s love and peace.

I was on the spot when the accident occurred. The pick got hit by a big dump truck. The truck was coming up the hill from Portsmouth. The pick was coming from south. The driver of the dump truck said to me, “He was coming up the hill and the back of the truck started going through the grass on the left side of the truck, I was not driving fast he said. It was me and the tall black partner over there.” He continued to say. “That caused the dump truck to loose control spinning back into the road. At the same time the pickup truck was coming.” Loaded with provisions, ginger, pineapples etc. The driver said there was nothing that he could do the truck just started to slide towards the pickup and smashed right into the right side of the pick up. The young man was at the back of the pick got thrown into the wall of that first house on the right at the top of that hill. He got injuries on his head, jar, should and a serious open wound on the back of his left leg. I MEAN A SERIOUS WOUND, OPEN TO WHERE YOU COULD SEE THE BONE BALL JOINT AND KNEE CAP. Water came out of my eyes. I felt so sorry for that young man. So sad. He was still unconscious when I got there laying on his back. He came to just when the first two police officers got there from salisbury. The dump truck continued going and crashed into the wall of the house.

I guess this accident is one that could not be avoided. I think it is past time that passengers stop sitting in the back of open vehicles especially if the vehicle is loaded. This is a very sad situation for both families, one that the family of the deceased will never forget.

You are correct. In addition, there are also religious divisions which contribute to lack of love, peace and unity. I read and experienced it on this Website. Consider how many renounced their Catholic Faith to follow other religions, people who came from practically nowhere and they instantly believed their false indoctrination. There are times, through instinct I view it as a punishment for their actions which they brought upon Dominica, other nationals and themselves. Little do some people know. Those who are blind and deaf to it will find out the truth someday.

Wayne C, no one is saying accidents do not happen in other places such as the USA; however, we are in no position to question who to grieve and how they should grieve. An accident with fatal results regardless to where it happened, yes, even in good old Dominica, to their families and friends and sympathetic onlookers it is a special case.

Obsolete? DBS? Awah wi..not DBS. Jamay pas!!

    • Justice and Truth
      May 14, 2013

To be honest DBS is a Radio Station. DBS has its job to do and so does DNO. You cannot compare them. Furthermore not everyone own computers. Some of those who have TV may also not own computers. Think also of those who may be blind. These rely on the radio. Others also rely on the newspapers for news. What if your computer is inoperable? Would you not listen to the radio?
DBS is government-owned. It will never become obsolete. In any case the radio is here to stay. It will not be replaced by TV and Internet.
All the same DNO is to be highly commended and appreciated of being able to post the news instantly as they occur especially for those who reside in DA.

Fist of all this officer could just be traveling to another location and stop to help the victims of the accident, hence he being in this uniform at this time.
So you have to know all the facts before you call for discipline , ok!
We all know that a Police officer will not respond to an accident dressed in his Tu-nicks.

In your opinion, for what should this officer be disciplined? In my opinion, for your LOW COMMENT RATING. Where is your common sense? The officer was doing the right thing, his job as a law enforcement officer and as a citizen. Hello!

    • Justice and Truth
      May 14, 2013

Some of you are something else; always scrutinizing pictures/people, commenting about them and criticizing them rather than addressing the issue. People as you call others idiot on this Website when you do not agree with their comments and are not pleased with what they state. I am informing you it is idiotic of you and whoever else to comment about the presence of the policeman. After all, he is a member of the Police Force and we should not find it surprising that he is on the scene.
So what is all this about the policeman? What is your problem? Why his presence on the scene be important to you and your primary concern?
I read the news, saw the pictures and did not even pay attention to the policeman. In fact, I saw nothing exceptional about his presence since he is a policeman. To me it was normal that he was present.
It should not surprise anyone that the policeman is at the scene of the accident. An accident occurred. An 18 year-old was injured and later died. This is the issue; not that a policeman is standing by, the scene of an accident. He may have been driving/walking by and happened to come on the scene. Probably someone telephoned the police station and he was sent. He may have received the call and immediately went to the scene of the accident. Whatever, he is a policeman on the scene who was able to assist the injured, direct traffic and to take particulars of what occurred. He is a welcome sight and sign, one who is fulfilling his duty as a policeman! Everyone should be pleased with his presence on the scene of the accident.
