Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. Reginald Thomas said a Project Implementation Unit (PIU) will be established within the Ministry of Agriculture to coordinate its day-to-day planning.
He made that statement during a recently held workshop.
“Following the cabinet’s approval, by next week, a project Implementation Unit will be established within the Ministry of Agriculture to coordinate the day-to-day planning, management and execution of all projects within the ministry, including the World Bank project,” he said.
According to Dr. Thomas, the PIU will work in close coordination with the ministry’s division as well as with an Implementation Support Team (IST) established within the Ministry of Finance which will be responsible for fiduciary aspects of the project.
He said the PIU will collaborate with the technical divisions of the new proposed Ministry of Agriculture food production unit.
Dr. Thomas went on to say that it will also comply and consolidate data and verification documents for the Ministry, “ensure data quality and prepare and submit the reports to the minister and the other policy makers, including the EU, FAO and World Bank.”
“To do so the PIU will hire an M & E officer and an information officer and also a communication officer who will closely coordinate with the reservoir of the ICT talent in Dominica in the public service in charge of tracking progress and consolidating information,” he stated.
Where are the parrots ? This will be your legacy.
I have always head of this unit and that department established within the government service to do this and to do that. I have not been hearing nor have I been seeing the results of this initiatives in the returns of production and guaranteed sales that people are employed and that the communities are benefiting.
Too may of these initiatives are announced and we don’t see the results, in that this initiative is transformed, converted to secures production, returns in cash and some level of stability and continuity.
If Skerrit`s Government is unable to build up Domininca with employment, vibrant businesses, agriculture output etc etc.. then please Skerrit Get Out.

I hope there will be a research/technical support arm able to diagnose farm problems and the required extension/education to provide technical support to farmers to ensure high yields and quality of produce and packaging to go into fresh market and agroprocessing ..Thai support is to be applied to food crop and non food crop agriculture ,,including floriculture etc..
