Dominica is among a number of Caribbean countries most favoured to be visited by those involved in the yachting sector, a survey done by the OECS Tourism Desk has revealed.

The survey was conducted in 2014 at the United States Sailboat Show in Maryland, to uncover information that will enhance the development thrust of the yachting sector in the OECS.

“The countries most favoured to be visited are the British Virgin Islands (BVI), Antigua and Barbuda, Anguilla and Dominica,” the survey shows.

However, less than one percent of yachtspersons actually intend on visiting Dominica, according to the survey.

“The findings of the study demonstrate promising potential for the further development of yachting in the OECS,” the OECS secretariat said. “In fact, an interesting finding from the survey revealed that there is a good chance that the region can benefit from a spike in yachting activity in 2015.”

The survey also showed that 61 percent of yachtspersons have no knowledge of the existence of the OECS as a regional organisation.

It also suggest that countries in the OECS need capitalize on the yachting industry.

“The survey also recommends a sustained campaign to ensure that post 2015, there is an average annual increase of yachtspersons visiting the region from the US and Canadian markets,” the OECS Secretariat said.

Hello and good morning my people. Well that’s good news for our Country and economy but we need more and better Piers for the yachts. We also need to be able to maintain the yachts far as sewage disposal and replenish fresh water. We need a nice pier in Portsmouth ,LaPlaine and Grand Bay to accommodate the yachts.

Dominica is magnificent, if there is a mess it is man made. Now we need some proper marina’s, I suggest one in the north and one in the south with proper professional and environmental friendly facilities and secure , beautifully landscaped and for once….none of that deafening noise from boom boxes to disturb the peace!!

“The countries most favoured to be visited are the British Virgin Islands (BVI), Antigua and Barbuda, Anguilla and Dominica,” the survey shows.

Without a suspicious mind one wonders why the four islands mentioned! Jamaica, Bermuda, Barbados, Trinidad & Tobago, St. Thomas among other islands are long visited by yacht owners, Antigua too. So what is the interest all of a sudden in the other small underdeveloped islands.

could it be because it is easy to get in and out with that white poweder?

    What a n0n-sensical, irrelevant and idi0tic 0bservati0n!

C0mm0n sense and basic math dictate that if D0minica was 1 0f the t0p 4 ch0ices in terms 0f sailing destinati0ns in the Caribbean – h0wever less then 1% plan t0 visit here – what d0es that mean?

    It means that alm0st 100% 0f resp0ndents plan 0n j_st visiting the 3 islands menti0ned. What?

What ab0_t all the 0ther islands in the Caribbean?

    And 0ver 50% 0f resp0ndents said n0 rec0gniti0n f0r 0ECS? H0w ab0_t 100%?

    And t0p-0f-mind awareness f0r D0minca? 10% at the m0st!

    These kind 0f rep0rts indicate h0w bad marketing research can be rep0rted! F0rget this n0n-pr0fessi0nal rep0rt!!

    Irrelevant and wr0ng!

    Ap0l0gize re the bad grammar,,,lapt0p n0t w0rking well.

prince Rupert bay ,for thoes who do not know its the portsmouth harbor is -was always a favoured visited port, I can remember in the late 60s-70s i would walk from Cottage to Portsmouth every day were i attendid the st Johns primary school during this time every year there would be countless of yachts of all kind in Portsmouth, the Prince Rupert bay,I would walk the entire length of that beautiful black sandy beach so i could gaze at this yachts, even some times this caused me to get to school late, there would be somaney yachts that some would be moor to thoes coconut trees that were on the beach,we are in 2015 what have our goverments done for this sector? if tourism is the way we are going whats taking us so long, if Dominica is to move foward the north-north east is were we have to concentrate there is were Dominicas potential for development lies.

Based on what is known of the hiearchy of DAT and their political allegiance, this was just posturing on thier part. It was always felt that they would have accepted the offer made by government.
