March 31 deadline for filing tax returns

Taxpayers are being called upon to avoid the rush and file in their income tax returns before March 31, which is the deadline set for filing.

Over the years, while some file their returns early, several have failed to avoid the last minute dash.

With less than ten days before the deadline, the Inland Revenue Division is reporting that several have already filed their returns.

“We have had a number of persons filing tax returns so far, but we still have quite a bit of people who wait for the last day of filing and it’s really a rush,” said Irving Williams, comptroller at the Inland Revenue Division.

People should file in their returns at Inland Revenue Division located on High Street in Roseau.

I got my tax-refund already, my people, and I am spending it wisely. Pay as you earn. Take out more during the year, get back some at the end of the year, that’s how it works.

I think Dominicans are well aware of their obligations. The Inland Revenue Division is one or if not the leading Government department in Customer Service. See what they have done to the drivers licence card. I am proud. By the way I also received my refund. Keep up the good works Comptroller.

We have to pay late fees and interest when we owe, and when they owe us, they take more that 10 months to pay or even longer.
So what double standard is the Comptroller?
