New airline to get name change

airportAn airline, which late last year promised direct flights from Florida to Dominica, has said it is in the process of changing it’s name and business brand.

It appears the airline will also have new owners.

The name, CIT Airways, will no longer be used by the airline and the name change will assist the airline “to better serve its future customers,” according to Jeffrey Wade, former vice president of the company.

“The new business name, website address and corporate contact information will be announced in the near future,” Wade told DNO. “Regretfully, this will indeed delay the launch of the airline until the business matters are sorted out with the new corporate entity as well as the new owners.”

He said “the company restructuring will allow for a long term sustainable future for the new airline.”

Wade said a a representative from the new corporation will reach out to DNO “as soon as they are ready for their test flights.”

He also told DNO to refrain from using the CIT Airways logo which had used for past stories.

CIT Airlines (Caribbean Island Transport) came to public knowledge in November 2013, saying on its website that is the national carrier of Dominica which will be offering non stop flights to and from Fort Lauderdale directly to the island.

It promised the flights would begin by January 2014.

In November the company told DNO that negotiations with the government of Dominica were in the final stages but by December its website went blank and its Facebook page was deactivated.

News of the airline had created much excitement among travelers to Dominica since the island suffers a serious shortage of airlifts.

Wade did not give a time line as to when the new name of the company will be made public.

I’m happy the owner or new owners of the business have recognized the need to change the name of the airline as it does not reflect creativity nor the possibility of a potentially expanding customer base.

It’s ironic that this information came out while Skerro is on his vote buying tour. The Laborrats may have to find another form of transportation where they can PAY for their own trip to come and vote illegally, but it is unlikely this will happen given their dependency upon the Gov’t just like they do with the RED CLINIC.

    • Really?
      January 9, 2014

Why do you think that the UWP is touring North America? To convince people to come vote for them. They will surely pay some people to come vote for them if they get the money.

One more reason from the horses mouth, to get persons with money to invest in the party as Prevo and Timothy did when they first started. Well, when people invest, they expect a return. I wonder what will that be and how will the party repay?

It was said that Mr. Wade was proven to be a risky character to be chosen in any managerial capacity and this appears to be proving true. This sounds like a very shaky start! You are not even off the ground yet and you have changed ‘owners’ twice??? Hmmmmmm…….ah tell you, I will not fly with this airline…..period!!!

We all need to give this company a chance to set its finances and website in motion before a test flight is done. No harm in doing so.

Remember that in January 2010 immediately after the general election a certain gentleman, Dominica’s biggest talker, “Athie Martin” was given a license to export our water. He was given all the concessions he needed to include the Pagua River and to date not one “shot” of water has been exported.

To date, the great Athie is yet to employ not even himself, yet he has that license and continue to tell Dominican the project will commence next quarters, from 2010 the next quarter is yet to come.

DNO will you enquire of Mr Martin what has happened to that great investment he was to undertake and the accompanying jobs? :-D

  9. Francisco Telemaque
    January 8, 2014

“Do we give the DLP another chance and ensure that jobs and employment are first on their agenda followed by crimes?”(DA To d Bone).

With interest I read your comments, which I find to be well balanced and unbiased, at least I saw nothing which remotely resembles partisan politics. And so because I am none partisan also, I would like to indulge by saying I do not care who wins the election, nevertheless, if the Labor Party returns to power: That is if the people of Dominica vote in favor of the Labor Party this time nothing will change; the status quo will remain the same.

The Labor Party right now does not have an agenda; they lack the resolve as far as the creation of employment is concerned.

    How I determine that?

Via the words of the great invincible; the one, the only so called Dr. McIntyre who asks a very stupid question not too long ago, “where are all these jobs going to come from.” When a minister of a ruling government asks such an stupid question, one has no alternative but to conclude the people in power has served their purpose; and can do no more.

They have become bankrupt of ideas, so what’s the use, what purpose can they serve in the future if they lack the ability to influence the creation of jobs. Based on McIntyre said; one may assume they are hoping something will fall from the sky, Someone need to informed the Labor Party that jobs are not found they are created by private investors, and a minimum amount by the government of every country.

The government of the country must be able to attract investors, we cannot continue to talk about Nature Island, and not concentrate on some form of industrialization; the Labor Party have made a mess of things, why would anyone want to spend as much as it took to dig up the Melville Hall River, and Banks to build a parking lot, and install landing lights, when the same amount of money wasted could have built a new International Airport which would indeed help to boost the economy of the country, and by creating more jobs.

Now they are talking crap about some Airline that is going to fly a hundred passengers from Florida to Dominica. That is all a lie, no such Airline is Registered anywhere in America. If it is not in our constitution, I think it is time we change it, and introduce term limit for people who serve in our government, there should also be a claw in there permitting the recall of the waste of time politicians when they are screwing up and not producing anything for their constituency.

What we have in Dominica is people run from one party to the next; if one spends ten years in power, when his/her party loses they jump ship and come telling people they are going to change Dominica, they should be ask how come you did not change it whiles you were in power?

And that is the way its been all the years. The people can vote Labor if that is what they want, but nothing will change, they had the opportunity, if nothing changed in almost twenty years, what difference will five more years make?

What about Term Limit in the political parties. How many terms did Eddison remain as the leader of the UWP. How many terms was Prevost nominated for the Roseau Central Constituency.

Let us be fair and objective

      • Francisco Telemaque
        January 9, 2014

One can remain a member of a political party for as long as they wish; they can make political contributions, however, after they serve that two terms in office,(serving as a government minister) they can no longer run for the same office.

That has been our number one problem, and one of the reasons Dominica fail to move forward.

Let us take for example Savarin, former DFP minister; the man caused plenty of damage in a successful attempt to overthrow Patrick John, in the process life’s were lost. The DFP eventually died, the same Savarin eventually ended in the coalition government, although he was not elected by the people, he eventually became a government minister in this ruling labor party, again he was not elected by the people.

If we had term limit in Dominica, by the time he served in the DFP, and again in the coalition, that would be it; he could not have again played minister of government, never mind been appointed president of the nation.

If I told the people of Dominica; vote for me, I am going to change Dominica from a poor country, to a fully developed country, by providing jobs, improve the standards of living, develop the nations infrastructure, and in the first five years I struggle to get it together, though in the process I did something significant which benefits the public on a whole, and I ask the people for a second opportunity, maybe that could be understood.

However it does not make any sense to continue voting for people who sits in government for ten, fifteen, and twenty years, the country makes no progress, and at the end of every five years, they return to the people with the same old promised that they haven’t fulfilled in almost twenty year; if in fifteen or twenty years a party fails to fulfill the promises they made, why should anyone believe they do any better in another five years,or the twenty-fifth year.

That is ridiculous, these guys as long as people continue to vote for them, their life, their welfare is secured, nevertheless, the majority of people continues to suffer hunger, existing in poverty; as far as I am concerned anybody elected in Dominica right now can accomplish anything as any other.

The situation in Dominica will never change under the labor party, because they have no ambition to move the country forward, they talk, and then runs out to beg for a loan, what about industrialized the country, what about building an International Airport which encourage more tourist to overnight in the country?

We can borrow all the money from the Chines to repair and build roads, we can talk agriculture to the day of our demised, unless we can provide lots of industrial work to employ at least 35% of the youths of the country, Dominica will not move one step forward!

I know I will be hated more for my comments here, but to be honest; no love lost, the do not care!

      January 9, 2014

Francisco again! You make sense on some points but though you said that you weren’t political, you surely brought out your political bias. All who have read your comments are certain that you are not a supporter of the Govt. but that of he opposition. You have a democratic right to do so, just keep it real.

As it relates to term limits so it was in the beginning and it shall be unless the people see differently. But again, it is the people who you are asking to change the constitution that continue to vote the Govt. hence the PM. The term limit is probably why the USA got itself in all this economic mess in the first place, as there were great presidents who could have stayed another term and continue their good work.

One must also be mindful that any one in the political parties can challenge their representative within their party. The party members vote to decide who they want to represent them. So after all is said, we do have a democratic system to get rid of politicians that party members don’t want.

As it relates to the airline, the people are taking about setting up a business with their own money, so why all that negativity? If it doesn’t come through, so be it. If it does, it would sure be good for Dominica. You have a choice and a right to take a different airline. I think that you know better but your bias is having the best of you, or you are just putting on a comedy show.

      • Francisco Telemaque
        January 9, 2014

“you surely brought out your political bias.”

        Oh no!

You only believe I am biased, if I was bias I would have taken one side or the other of the two political parties; I have not done that.

My contention is simply this, it takes no special individual to get things going our country right now. Any claims that the present government can make about prosperity, a new born baby can counter with the same claims; it is a free for all until someone with ambition begin to produce.

Talking about the “same ole, same ole” is not helping anybody excepts the politicians who benefits by receiving their monthly pay cheque’s at the expense of the poor!

Let it be know I am nonpartisan, I do not care about the politics not the political rhetoric of the individual politician, what concerns me most is the country Dominica. for too long our people exist in backwardness, it is time we recognize that the people we chose to represent us are the obstacles in the way of progress.

Here is an example of progress: almost twenty years ago, an erupting volcano devastated Montserrat, the capital Plymouth, and all of the former well developed residential neighborhood no longer can be recognized. Nevertheless, now hear of Brads Montserrat, mind you the population of Montserrat is far less than Dominica, yet they found a way to rebuild their country, and are doing it at a rapid speed.

It is said it takes about twenty-five years to build a nation, the people of Montserrat has prove that theory wrong, so if we are unable to move Dominica forward since independence, our problem must be the politicians we select to run the country.

In Montserrat, the country took precedence over politics: in Dominica political rhetoric is the order of the day, fill the thoughts of the people with rubbish, keep them content by giving a handouts, confused them by saying they have it better in Dominica than any other place on earth they will believe the nonsense, and become blind to the misery, and backwardness which engulfed the nation.

What have you heard recently; Dominica is the easiest place to do business; yes believe that if you wish, however, ask yourself if that is true, how come investors are not flocking to Dominica to invest thus creating jobs, and please don’t tell me anything about no call center, because those a petty, unskilled whatever they, represents

I am finish you see because I was about to burst loose like a runaway fright train, and since I (doh) want to be assassinated, I gone and do some work oui!

I don’t always agree with Francisco but he is right about one thing. The labour Govt. has become as refreshing as stale beer.
Now here is a vexing question. I agree, Montserrat is doing relatively well but that is still under British management. What have we done with our precious independence? Have we squandered it, seeing how beholden we are now to countries like China? Show me the real benefits for all the people, not just a few. Not just a national anthem and a colourful flag. Some of us will get hot under the collar but I want them to respond with concrete things, and not only emotional outbursts that don’t pay the bills.

     , boy I love this story! So, the secret November polling by the same Bajan concluded that DLP is in a lot of hot water with voters hence the election planned for around carnival time (two weeks before to be precise) was postponed. Sadly, the said CIT was never planned as a long term business venture but rather to start flying right before the elections thus making it easy to be placed on political chatter discretely to ferry DLP voters.

As soon as the bajan say go, elections will be called because the DLP needs 90-100% confidence that they will get 11 seats or else election will not happen until constitutional due because they plan on starting a lot of small projects toupartoo to increase confidence in the government. But, the opposition have them covered. Spies all over ministry, in cabinet and all over passing information. Hence, Change Must Come and that will be soon.

Dominicans are NOT ready for forward progress, even WHEN it hits them in the face! Stop playing with the power of words because what you speak into your life, is exactly what you get. Good luck to the people on the Island who have to deal with the insurmountable amounts of negative energy, that’s creating nothing more than a quicker downward decay of the entire society. For the ones who say “Oh, I will believe when I see it” Have you seen God, your soul, your mind, your spirit; yet they are totally embraced by YOU! Stop keeping down your own selves by speaking negativity into your being.

So Rastafari, are you saying you believe the crap Wade is talking about this Airline?

Wade is a liar, only he may know why he is indulging in this lie, if there was such an Airline existing in the United States, it would be in some public record.

We are talking about a commercial airline here. If this airline exist, each aircraft flying in the United States, has a tail number, or some number written on some part of it, let Wade provide provide one such number of his fleet of aircrafts so that those who knows can check, that number and see if it is valid!

do not include God into this, people believing in God, and believing a Dominica lie is totally different from someone relationship with God.

These people believe their is limited to Dominica, and the unsuspecting will believe their crap, maybe there are more people in the Diaspora reading DNO than people in Dominica, hence those at home who does not know better may believe their lies, but they are not fooling most of us.

“An airline, which late last year promised direct flights from Florida to Dominica, has said it is in the process of changing it’s name and business brand.”

Somebody has to be mad, crazy, delusional, or something: what I want to know is simply this. How can an entity, or person who does not exists have a name never mind change a name; and its brand of nothing, also been sold to someone else?

This thing which promised to fly directly to Dominica never existed in America, no such airline was ever registered as an airline in Florida, nor any State within the continental United States, never operated from any passenger terminal in the State of Florida!

Never flown anywhere in the United States to my knowledge, though I researched it and found that no such airline existed here; it is interesting that there is going to be a name change. A name change to what if this thing is not, and never was in existence.

What we saw on the long disappeared Website was a drawing, a painting of an Aircraft, and not actually a physical plane; and if it was anybody can rent an aircraft, and have anything stenciled, or silk-screen on for the purpose of a gimmick or a simple commercial, that happens everyday in America.

People cannot lie about such thing in this country and get away with it, something like an airline operating in America would be recorded, and become part of public information, and as a result anybody in the nation can obtain information regarding whatever, if they so desire, nobody can tell you, go to ask Mr. Big dog politician, who will lie to you and carry you in circles without an true answer.

    This is not Dominica.

If the lairs of this hocks wish to vindicate themselves; all they have to do is provide DNO with their registration certificate, and a copy of their operating license giving them the rights and authority to operate an Airline in and out of the United States.

DNO in tern would post it so that people like me would be humiliated, shame and shut or mouth!

Two days ago a single engine aircraft went down, within an hour, all of California, knew who the aircraft belongs to, who the passengers are, who flown, even the address of the owner where he live. These so called airline owner and flying to Dominica is a hocks, a gimmick designed to serve some purpose, and impressed gullible Dominicans, it a lie, only that some Dominicans will be captivated by the lie!

@John Bess: You are thinking the same thing I thought. There was probably a plan to call elections this January/February and so last year they announced the start of flights for January 2014. Apparently the DLP is not ready/prepared and so they postponed hence the airline operations has to be pushed back and with a name change to try to make their illegal plans seem legit

  38. January 8, 2014

skerit change the date for the election so that’s why the airline name change linton on have him on his toes

Skerrit is a Ballet Dancer or what?

It’s excellent that we have Democracy alive in the Nature Isle. Dominicans deserve good governance and strong, productive opposition.

I myself think that all deals and MOU’s that are made on the behalf of the citizens of the Commonwealth of Dominica MUST be clear and transparent to all citizens ( those Home and Abroad).
The Constitution is written to be amended but also written to be followed by its citizens and there is no immunity to Politicians ( including the Opposition) and other Governement officials.

Dominicans should hold both parties accountable at the highest standard and that includes doing the job that the people gave them the mandate to do.

No longer should be the case that if a minister is NOT performing, that he may stay in the position because a PM sees fit. The people should be more involved and maybe we need mid term elections to help correct this issue.

The opposition is playing a fantastic role in this effort but the opposition cannot decide to boycott Parliament when they feel like or choose. They too should be penalized and hence when change is a must.

This election must be a Referendum on the future of our Nature Island, our children future.

Do we give the DLP another chance and ensure that jobs and employment are first on their agenda followed by crimes? In my honest and humble opinion is that the DLP under PM skerrit has shown significant improvements but they short fall on too much in the long space of time.
PM, I wish you could remain always humble as when you came in and remain this way and not let the power you attain impaired your genuine character and personality. There must be changes in the present DLP. Many “ole and greedy heads” must role. Bring in young blood and fresh ideas and you will get many more opportunities to represent ” We the People”.

Do we embrace this new, vybrant team Dominica/ UWP and give them a chance to fulfill our ” Agenda”? I believe the UWP with its momentum and character of candidates are phenomenal and should be given serious thought. Workers, I believe that you guys should quite focusing on the PM and concentrate on Policies, Plans and programmers that will bring about “true change”. Dominicans are not ready to allow Politicans to make the same Mistakes that were made in the past.
We want to know your plans and how will you pay for them. No hiding, no secret MOU’s. Tell us upfront ” everything” as it happens and we the people will choose and allow you to represent ” We the Citizens of the Commonwealth of Dominica.

I personally want the next Government to concentrate its efforts and resources on Agriculture, Agro Processing and Manufacturing. Dominicans are Great at it and it will bring down the unemployment problem on the Island, decrease dependency and create entrepreneurship in the private sector.

With the emergence of great movement and buzz of the legalization and Decriminalization of Marijuana, I demand to know what is the stance from both parties towards this trend before this election. Many are already on board ( even the USA) and it is a lucrative venture that can get us out of poverty immediately ( once done correctly).

Dominicans, hear me please. Politicans are people just like us. We allow them to do these things and then we fight among ourselves because of party colors or ideologies. We must call the shorts and think of Country and not Party……… Not PM Skerrit and not Lennox Linton.

      I Love you Dominica

No harm no foul. I never believed that this venture was real to begin with. Hence, I’m not the least bit disappointed.
Keep on fooling Dominicans with your rubbish. Not me though.

I was one of the first to compliment the idea of direct service from the US to Dominica , but I also mentioned that something was not right given the start up date was only 6 weeks from inception .Sometimes we have great ideas but don’t always realise we have to let the professionals , authority , time and most importantly let the Lord play his part.
