President of the West Coast Cooperative Credit Union Ltd (WCCCU), Patrick Albert, has said the institution continues to thrive despite ‘tremendous challenges’ and a ‘bleak economic outlook’ facing the world.
The society held its annual general meeting for the financial year ending December 2012 earlier this month at the Coulibistrie Primary School under the theme “Moving forward with purpose.”
According to Albert, the society recorded a 3 percent growth in assets which resulted in total assets of $21.7-million and a surplus of $323,205.15 for the year.
The primary areas of growth of operations during 2012 were loans, member savings, deposits and share capital.
The Loan portfolio grew by 6 percent, despite the highly competitive leading environment in which it operate, Albert pointed out.
The area of greatest growth was the mortgage segment, which increased by 10.8 percent.
The WCCCU Ltd has undertaken several outreach programs and activities for the year under review, Albert noted. Awarding Cooperators with scholarships and financing a number of community initiatives in culture, sports, arts and school activities.
Certificates of appreciation were awarded to outgoing volunteers for loyal contribution and service on the different committees and Board of Directors.

I am happy to know that the school I went to in my village of Coulibistrie was the venue for this special meeting. When I have enough money, I am going to send some money down from the USA to paint and upgrade the school. Convenient location, close to the highway, police station and beach.
I am happy that Coulibistie is on the Dominica map, and the world knows there is a little village between two mountains Called COULIBISTRIE. I have property in Coulibistrie and the surrounding areas, and I will take my money out of the bank and put it in the Credit Union. Most of the banks are international, and all the profits go overseas. Our local Credit Unions, a local and our profit stays here. BRAVO CREDIT UNIONS.
Best credit union in Dominica! Thumbs up to the staff!
This credit union aims to provide the highest quality of products and services to enable us to improve the living standards.
I love the Farm Plus since it has enabled many farmers to increase production on my farm and to return to the farm.
Great stuff but always boring. I go for the food.
It’s unfortunate that you go for the food.
