McLawrence’s body was found late Tuesday evening

The body of a female has been found in Portsmouth, according to information reaching Dominica News Online.

DNO was reliably informed that the body of Marilyn McLawrence was found late Tuesday evening at the end of a track.

According to a reliable source, she was heading home from a shop and was using the track near her home when she was attacked by a man.

The source said it appears that the mother of four died on the spot.

McLawrence received several cuts to her back and head, the source said.

DNO is following this story and will provide updates when they become available.

The police force in Dominica needs improving. I agree with you when you say they need to bring some experts from the UK. Also would it not improve the force if we exchanged offices with other Caricom Islands. or UK and US. I feel that the officers are not up to the task ,rarely is there a conviction ,in such a small population ,how very very strange! Don’t you think? Get your finger out Dominica before crime is out of control .

Dominica really needs to do something about its policing , I have yet to see anyone convicted of a crime. Maybe they need to do an exchange with another island so that they see how a real police force is run and convictions are gained. As they are too close to the suspects at the moment. It is not working and YES! they need to STOP SELL PASSPORTS .!!!!! AND CONVICT SOME FOR A CRIME.!!!!!!!!!!

We need a speedy trial followed by hanging. It’s time to reinstate the death penalty. If you murder in cold blood and you are a menace to society, hanging is the only solution!! I don’t care what the “Mercy Committee” has to say. Hang the culprit swiftly!!!!

Such a nice woman. She and her kids would frequently visit my father who was bedridden before he passed away. I am so shocked to hear this. God bless you Marilyn for being a loving, kind, and caring person. Im so sorry that someone did this to you and also to your family. May your beautiful soul eternally rest in peace. Nobody from the area of which she lived could have done this to her because she was good to everyone and everyone loved her. It had to be someone that’s not originally from Georgetown, Glanvillia, or Portsmouth. I hope the police catches this person and the judge punishes them in the worst way. Please Ian and the police of Portsmouth please catch this wicked criminal before they do it to someone else… Justice for Marilyn & her family

I read an article where a parliamentarian told Carricom that poverty was on the decrease in Dominica but when the level of crime increases it is a result of POVERTY. How is the government of Dominica accessing situations. THINGS DOES NOT ADD UP.

There’s people right now that probably have information that could help the investigation, but they so badmind and don’t want to be considered “snitches” they will keep their mouth shut.

All you possie people can thumb me down if you want but it’s well known that many of ya’ll up there don’t cooperate with the police when it comes to crimes. Remember the old lady that was raped and murdered some time back? in the very same Glanvillia even. You mean to tell me NO ONE had pertinent info concerning the perpetrators?? Oh please!!!

Some are just too ignorant and they hardly ever bring info to the police that could expose the criminals. Stupid set of people JAH, we need to get out of this “snitch” mindset when it comes to brutal murders like this. Crime must pay, it doesn’t matter if it your damn cousin, brother, aunty… they have to PAY!!! If it was yoru family member murdered you would want answers/help

I hold the government of Dominica responsible!!Dominica is slowly becoming a fail state. There is no law and order . . .when persons think crime against anyone is ok and will get away with it . this is the result . .there is more to come. We as a nation has to stand up and fight this cancer before is spread.by the way where is the comment of the prime minister and the opposition . . .I need solutions . . .you need my vote.

      October 1, 2014

Its people like you that allow people to think that they can take the law in their own hand. Government cannot control people’s mind. people will do what they want to do whether there are laws to protect people from it. thats why here are laws. stop blaming the government for people madness. STUPID!!!!!

we vote a government to protect us , provide us with health care, provide us with an education and I can go on and on . . .this a government for the people and by the people . . .when bad things happen who do we blame . .the victims? Enforcing the laws of the any democracy is on the government, to pass laws and hire competent people to enforce those laws. Dominica is an island of less than 65000 people . .how difficult is that? I am angry when violent crimes that have no regard to humanity occur and the perpetrators do it because they may get away .

  17. The Facts
    October 1, 2014

This is another shocker which I did not expect to read about and wished it never had happened. I feel sorry for what happened to her.
Just think when she encountered the murderer, how she felt as he harmed her and murdered her, knowing what the outcome would be, her final moment on earth. She must have thought of her family as well. So much more could be stated. If we think of that, the more we will feel saddened at what happened to her and mourn with her family no matter where we reside.
My heartfelt sympathy to her family. I visualize how much your heart is aching for what has happened to your loved one. As you mourn, take heart. God is with you.
Do you know, as God, He is hurting even more for what has been done to your loved one, His Child? He sees you grieving, feels for you and surrounds you with his mantle of love and compassion. Keep in mind Our Lord Jesus Christ said, “I will never forget you My people…” May this be a source of consolation to you. God bless you!
Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul rest in peace. Amen!

Who ever did this needs to get the death sentence and executed promptly. This is absolutely barbaric and I don’t think tax money should be wasted on imprisonment.

It is time the government wake up and see their is a major problem with crime in the north but the police seem to ignore it. This crime was senseless give the family and the people of Dominica justice. Gov’t bring back the hanging and set an example. People are living in fear do something about it we are tired of excuses. Portsmouth is the town where Skerrit, Ian, Austrie, Mano, bobbles, and other friends of the party have their businesses, and yet they cannot come with one single solution to combat the brutal murders that are taking place in Portsmouth month after month. One thing though, they cannot blame this one on the demons of Tommy Lee Sparta. This has to be their own demon that rubbing on the town.

  36. DLP Failed again!!!
    October 1, 2014

Portsmouth again man! These days we seem to have a murder in the second town every other month if not every month. This is the DLP stronghold my friends so much so that Ian Douglas is on record saying “ Portsmouth constituency belongs to the Dominica Labour Party.”
He stated that Portsmouth has been voting Labour for the past 60 years and will do so for another 60 years “under Roosevelt Skerrit.”“Because he is young, he is not even 50 yet, he has another 30 years to go.” Ian and Skerrit, during the reign of the DFP from 1980-1995, I cannot remember any one being murdered in Portsmouth. Then during the reign of UWP from 1995-2000, I still cannot remember any one being murdered in Portsmouth. Since Skerrit and Ian took over from 2004 to date, I can easily remember 15 brutal murders in Portsmouth, at a time when the DLP is in power, and Portsmouth belongs to the DLP. Does one have to graduate from a university to see that Skerrit, Ian, and Reggie have no answer whatsoever to what is taking place in Portsmouth? Man it is just time to kick these guys out because if they CANNOT take care of something they refer to as their belonging, then how will they take care and solve the problems of those that might not be theirs? Don’t tell me to leave politics out because it is poor politics and policies that manifesting themselves.

What JUSTICE? Where is the justice for all the unsolved murders lurking under the seemingly investigations of that POLICE Force? There is another Portsmouth murder pending charge of the assailants over a month now. No justice in sight. Think about that. Besides, G.O.N Emanuel and wife still waiting four justice after four years. Is it the system? or is it the Police? think about that. This country is going nowhere. Poor this girl and her grieving family hope they find solace in the hope that WHEN CHANGE COMES IT WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE FOR ALL DOMINICANS

Just curious. How do they know its a Spanish person? N no one has been arrested?. Did someone see something? Then say something. No one deserves to die like this. We need to start deporting the undocumented people along with all those criminals.

    • The Facts
      October 1, 2014

I agree. No compassion for those who harm and murder who are not D/can citizens and are illegal. Such people who cannot conduct themselves appropriately should be promptly deported to their country.
The government, police authorities should not harbor undesirables who are not citizens. They do not deserve to remain in D/ca for they add to the criminal element of the country. They are no good to D/ca.

Would the government consider deploying more resources to combat the lawlessness in Portsmouth instead of over-compensating with hotels?

Portsmouth is becoming synonymous with murder rather the beautiful town that it is.

My deepest sympathy to the immediate family and other family members. May you find strength in God. This is just a sad way to go. No one deserves a gruesome death as this. May her soul rest in peace.

I pray that the perpetrator never find peace until he or she confesses and turns themselves in. This was just a heartless crime, then to see that person goes to prison and after a few years, they’re back in society. That is why we, sometimes, have to take the law in our own hands.

      October 1, 2014

You are in for a rude awakening buddy when you stand before him on judgement day. People we need to pray for a better life in Dominica. If we turn from our evil ways and pray God will heal our land. Pray people pray.

To the McLawreces, my heart goes out to you. Remember though that God is alive and well and he does not leave us or forsake us. He will take care of you. Marilyn is already having all her fun with Jesus she deserves that.

    • The Facts
      October 1, 2014

I can state to you, you are one mad person for making such comments.
God created Earth, Heaven, humans also known as mortals and gave them an immortal soul which, on the inevitable day, will return to him for judgment of what they have done on earth and failed to do. He will reward them by their works, giving them their just recompense as they deserve. God rewards the good and punishes the wicked.
God also created you, me and others. He created all that is in the world for our enjoyment. He gave humanity faculties and intelligence.
We do know according to the Old Testament by one of the inspired Prophets, “A fool says in his heart there is no God.” They really have to be foolish to say that. Look around you and ask yourself who created people and all these things. How did they come about?
Fools think they came through evolution. Well, one has to be foolish/dunce to think so and to believe that. It may be that due to their attitude, God hides himself from them and veiled their eyes, minds and brains that they cannot see who and what God created. The light of God is not within them and so they go about making ungodly remarks and denying God.
Your words cannot change a thing. One day you will meet God for your final judgment. May He change you and your heart while you are still alive that you may not perish. Otherwise, if you do not change and die in such a manner, woe to you forever and ever. Sufferings will ensue forever. I would not wish that on my worst enemy, if I know one.

O my God, I believe, I adore, I love You. I beg pardon for those who do not believe, do not adore and do not love You.

In many cases like this one it has been proven that wives are murdered by husbands and vice versa. We tend to eliminate them because we sympathize their pain and sorrow . say again have an open investigation.Police officers must always put procedure , professionalism in front .Do not act upon impulse
