marijuana treesFour men from Campbell have been arrested and charged with possession of drugs, possession with intent to supply, cultivation and possession of firearm.

Police PRO, Inspector John Carbon, have identified them as Dian Scotland, Erickson Madir, Andy Ettienne and Kalan Ettienne.

They appeared before a Roseau Magistrate on Monday, August 26. Andy Ettienne and Erickson Madir were granted bail in the sum $150, 000 each. Dian Scotland remains in custody since a proper surety could not be found for him. Kalan Ettiene is reportedly in hospital.

The men were arrested by members of the Drug Squad, Task Force and the Special Service Unit during two drug eradication exercises on August 22 and 23 in the heights of Syndicate.

During the operation 4,940 marijuana trees were destroyed.

One 410 shotgun was also found and seized, according to the police.

Meanwhile on August 25 the police  said they seized 2,336 grams of cured marijuana, 438 grams of marijuana seeds and 2,184 marijuana trees in the village Layou at about 4:00 pm.

Three men are presently in custody and are expected to be charged later today.

I strongly urge all people associated with ganja don’t vote.
Marijuana is legalized in more than ten states in the us and every year the number increases. Right now their prisons is being overcrowded and that speeds up the decriminalizing process.
Skerrit free up ganja man, open up ur eyes and wise up. Stop being the Americans foot stool.
I support full fights and penalties for cocaine.
Skerrit its time to decriminalize ganja.

As much as I would like to agree, it would be through my own ignorance. I don’t take for any one side.

Not voting is a VERY foolish decision. When you don’t vote, you legally and rightfully have no say in what happens in your country. Reason? You did not select a contender. Yes it may be a decision you made, but that just may affect the right choice.

I will not lie when i say i am against the government’s flow of things. It is wrong and corrupt in many areas (MOST), but at the end of the day, they are the reason why some of us can leave our homes and go on our daily movements.

Also, you mite just vote in the RIGHT candidate and finally legalize this stuff. ^_^

The only way forward is legalizing it. Marijuana is not a drug, it is a plant, a weed and it “grows”.

Drugs require a chemical change, done by man, in a substance(s), which then will induce a state or frame of mind on the body.

Marijuana is 1st grown, then dried, rolled and smoked. Did you see any chemical changes there?

What about the “harms of Marijuana”?

It causes cancer… The herb itself does not cause or irritate cells of the body into a cancerous state. It is only due to the properties of the smoke itself as “smoke” and NOT the herb causes cancer! When people drink it or is medicinally used, example. Glaucoma. Does it cause cancer? NO! Its in a different form, not being smoked. Heck DOCTORS recommend it.

Do you know the declaration of American indepence was written on HEMP PAPER????

Did you know it was only illegalized for the reason that it makes people into pacifists? Something that, it’s a long shot, can bring about world peace?

I’ve seen drunkards, cocaine users, crack heads and all the other kinds. What do they look like? Murders, con artists, paros, dirty cops and wicked government officials.

The only reason weed is illegal…T’is because AMERICA made it so. We all know they don’t like pacifists. That wont work at all.

Think of all the useless bloodshed that can be avoided.

Or look at the flip side, if it legalized:

less money spent on drug busts for weed.

It will no longer be the “cool” thing, so children will gravitate less to it.

We can export it to countries willing to buy it.

    MORE tourism is assured.

Negatively, we could attract the wrong tourists, but, this is where the Police and Government come in. Not only can they impose a tax on it, a law can be written against:

    1) importation of weed
    2) Foreigners selling it.

Also, permits can be given, age of consent established so can still charge someone underage or go after the one who gave it to them.

At the end of all this, It would be wiser to legalize it, that it remain illegal. Less crime, and more profit for the country. This is also a way of showing how the government, not just in D/ca, but the world doesn’t care about the people.
Why? They could hunt down the bigger damagers instead. like the previously mention examples and the newer ones.

Marijuana is good in the textile industry as well, if not the best raw material. It also brings people together, can stimulate brain cells as opposed to the rumors that it kills them, and the seeds are of high nutritional potency. Then again i suppose fast food is what people are into…

    • Distured
      August 27, 2013

Also, on the foreigners selling it part, more people will want to be citizens of Dominica, hence more foreigners coming and paying their LONG money for citizenship.

      Think about it!

Studies has shown the smoking marijuana has not caused cancer of any form …

      • Distured
        August 27, 2013

Im just saying, that it is the properties of smoke on a whole. NOT the herb in it. If it were the herb, ingesting it would cause cancer; whereas it can cure certain ailments, when taken in any form.

I agree with all you wrote except that Marijuana was criminalized in the US as a way to keep Mexicans from coming across the border. At that time Marijuana was legal in the states and was brought in by Mexicans. Marijuana was criminalized due racism.

I really doe get it,if this is a big money maker for the state,to charge ganja growers;why not see how to make more money with it,there is a market in the USA and other major countries.this is organic. There is this programe by a big Doctor, in the USA on marijuana,Sonja Gupta, something like that is his name, stop fighting the little man to make them more poor. All our agriculture produces are under attack one way or the other.

  7. August 27, 2013

It is time these people in power stop penalising their own people to satisfy the developed world. Even they are now having second thoughts about marijuana. Some of these people grow up drinking the herb as tea. Their grandmothers and mothers gave it to them for medicinal purposes: migraines, asthma etc. we should have a research and study done to see how best to deal with this weed, instead of throwing all our young people in jail.

We talk pacifistic ideals, you want life takers to fall in the same bracket. Almost has a racist feeling to it.

When alcohol was illegal, im sure your grand parents were the ones to say dem people dumb! It was illegal and you had villains like Al Capon, the real 1, running his mafia (Mob), using that as a source of dilenquency and money income.

Also, how dare you say legalise murder… its almost that way already.

Can Government try securing a sale for our marijuana to one of the States that allows medical marijuana?
In that case you will then sanction some marijuana planter..if u don’t know who plants the best weed go back over your court records cause we have some deadly planters here which would employ ppl and Two secure foreign exchange from the States.
Why not lets try this insytead of every week arresting these farmers and sending them jail whilst the poor suffering ppl in the states have shortage of proper organically grown marijuana for medicinal purposes?????
