Police arrest Trinidadian gospel show promoter

Thomas, in blue, being arrested at Q95 on Friday morning

Police have arrested Trinidadian, Cornelius Thomas, better known as CJ Thomas, who has been in Dominica promoting a “Saving Souls” concert featuring international gospel artiste, Vashawn Mitchell.

The show is scheduled to be staged this evening at the Newtown Savannah.

He was arrested at the offices of local radio station, Q95, on Friday morning.

Thomas is the subject of investigations by the police after he reportedly issued an NCCU check amounting to EC$35,205.00 to a local travel agent.

The travel agent became suspicious and alerted the police and on investigations it was discovered that he only had EC14.00 on the account.

Reports indicate that Thomas also issued another cheque in the amount of EC$48,000.00 to another travel agent who did the necessary due diligence and discovered that he only had EC$600 in the account.

Speaking on Q95 on Friday morning, Thomas denied any wrong doing and dared the police to even arrest him. “If I have done anything wrong then tell the police to arrest me…I issued the checks with the understanding that I will be getting monies to have them cleared,” he said.

Meanwhile local radio station, Voice of Life, has disassociated itself from Thomas and any of his shows.

DNO was able to obtain an email written to Thomas by manager of Voice of Life, Clementina Munro, on the matter.

See email below.

Greetings, Mr Thomas!

I write this rather disappointedly but with a firm conviction that it is the right course, particularly because I have sought the Lord on this. As I took the matter before him, I was astounded that He placed within my spirit the matter of the Gibeonites and Joshua in Chapter 9 of the book of Joshua.

I accepted the Word of the Lord and went further to make a call to Grenada (venue of your last event) from where the following was sent to me (which I append):

http://thenewtoday.gd/local-news/2013/07/03/100-000-00-missing/

On the above basis, while I sought to assist you initially in good faith, I am now advising you that Voice of Life Radio will have no part or parcel of your activities and any mention or allusion to VOL on any flier (which I have not seen or permitted, but was informed of) or document should cease and/or erased.

I now understand your partner’s defensive stance when seemingly prophetic words were spoken through discernment.

What must I say to you now other than to ask that “the Lord bless you”, because He knows the heart of man.

Below is a video recording of Thomas’ arrest at Q95 Friday morning.

it is all well and good that this man was caught and dealt with in such a hasty manner, I like the publicity given to this act but all tif is tif, what about the local conmen and bankers stealing people’s money every day. There is a situation at nbd and nothing is beind said about it so waht is that.

there is no check processing law saying that you cant use the float period(the time a check takes to clear)to your advantage .. the problem would be if the seven days have experied and there is no money to cover the check only then it can be considered writing a bad check. he can always claim that he was about to put the money in the account and if the state cant prove its case they have to drop the evidence against him.. a good lawyer should get him off easy and he knows that con men are far from stupid

    • November 18, 2013

Jeff, if he wrote a date to cash the check–like the same day he wrote it, the person’s bank–to whom he wrote the check–cannot tell him or her that they have to wait for a certain number of days for them to receive their money–there is no such thing.

Hence, with no money in his bank account to pay for that check, it is a bounced check, which the payers bank would discover later; and so he is responsible for that situation–right there.

On the other hand if he wrote the check with a date to be paid like 7 days later, the bank has no choice but to wait for the date that is on the check to give the money to its claimer–neither would he be arrested for that situation situation, for he would have issued a check, in advance, for money that he would have had in his account on the specific date of the check.

you know the bible said they will come like wolves in sheep clothing and he has come as a wolf in sheep clothing. if he prophases that he has done nothing wrong then maybe he needs to read up on the word Fraud as anyone who issues a cheque that bounces can be arrested and charge for the offence of fraud. and looking at this video this guy is a stinking tief.

In case you did not know, Dominicans fall for any foreign accent. Yah man.. This one just happened to get caught.

  7. November 17, 2013

Any one should know you do not write checks assuming that monies will be in the account in time to have the checks cleared. The monies should be available before writing checks. Good for those who was wise enough to verify these checks. People say Dominicans are stupid, but we are not that stupid. One do not DARE the police to arrest them publicly, especially if they are on to you. We should teach lessons to ALL who think they can and will get away with wrong doings.

This makes no sense because as wrong as what this guy did is and the justice served by getting him arrested, which was the right thing to do, it really opened that old can of worms again because it clearly suggests that some may have been insulated from the law and can do what they want while others are arrested when transgressed.

Wrong is wrong and all must be treated alike. DNO had this to say in one of there articles dated Monday, November 29th, 2010 at 1:06 PM :

“A business partner of Attorney Stephen Isidore has filed criminal complaints against him.

Included in those complaints are 42 charges relating to alleged theft, false accounting, obtaining property by false deception, false statements, among others.”
The last paragraph of that same article reads as follow: Law enforcement authorities have refused to get involved in the matter, Linton said.

In September 2007 Isidore claimed to have made a $51,000 error regarding a transfer tax calculation on a 2.989 parcel of land purchased by Prime Minister Roosevelt SKerrit at Wall House. This was subsequent to pressure from the public on a land transfer tax evasion.

The amount was later refunded to the Treasury.
My question is, why was this individual arrested by the police just as this gospel show promoter?
This article back in 2010 have some very interesting names that are so very common today in the New Dominica that we have come to know about.

As a born again believer whether this guy is a believer or not, what he has been accuse of doing is wrong and as a result, he must be treated the same way we would treat any criminal. Those who transgress the law must be judged by the law regardless of his religion, race, creed, profession etc. Having said this, I am now left to wonder why was an individual that charged with 42 charges of theft in 2010, that amounts to almost $7 Million dollars alleged stolen money never got arrested up to this day knowing that this same individual in September 2007 claimed to have made a $51,000 error regarding a transfer tax calculation for a popular politician, only after he was pressured by the public? THE LAW SHOULD BE THERE FOR ALL! When all are not treated the same we MUST conclude that there is too much corruption.

Is the same lawyer, same politician, and same players that always in court fighting and defending their corrupt deal. Santa you need to think of three little things; one get a copy of the Company’s Act. Recognize that the accused had access to the accounts because he is a partner and has been making withdrawals. Are you saying that Mano never got a Account statement for that period or there was no business meetings where financial statements were discussed? Are you aware that since Mano was fired from the bench he could not attract business it was Isidore that brought him business and the biggest accounts at that. You wanted the police to arrest a man for using his own money as he saw fit. Also the CIVIL COURT is where such matters are dealt with NOT the CRIMINAL COURT. The Company is Emannuel Isidore and Associates. Stop being clowns in a circus and read some more. My wife cannot get me arrested for using our money can she?

The word phrase con-artist comes from the phrase “confidence artist”. We all know what con artists do – they nurture your confidence then they strike. They are chronic liars but behind a chronic liar is someone who feels that he or she is not good enough. With this sublime inferiority the con artists become not just creative but very daring. Notice how CJ Thomas went on the radio and dared the police to arrest him – how bold huh. Once they feel that they can get away with their scam they develop this attitude of invincibility.

NOW SEE WHO IS A SCAM ARTIST.

Con artists subconsciously know that when people love you the people will cover truth and lies. (the villa is not his it is mine; I gave him the land for free; I work for him for free;the French passport did not exist)

“Con men are smooth operators, shrewd intimidators, manipulators and actors par excellence;” ( This country is to free; I will deal with them at the appropriate time; snipers on the roof tops )

They thrive on the knowledge that people tend to believe only what they want to believe; ( oh boy a plethora of examples – 300-400-500 jobs- lies lies lies)

They discourage their victims from associating with people who the con men cannot victimize. ( hunt them down like Obama hunting down the terrorists; don’t patronize Q95; don’t go to Breezee Mart)

They live in self-denial; renouncement is their forte; ( No law no constituition; acquired French passport knowing that it is illegal ( very daring)- feeling of invincibility)

    •Because they are inherent dishonest, they are not able to trust others. They justify their actions to so-called wrongs done to themselves. ( Always blame others. Notice how CJ Thomas immediately blamed the Grenadian people by stereotyping – the dilapidated feeder roads is because the opposition was absent from parliament; petit Savanne road – he never knew about it – his Parlrep never mention it ;

Pretending that being in a state of defense is beyond their dignity. They will rather accuse others, even their victims of neuroses, paranoia, or when lacking sufficient vocabulary use any defaming words. ( Take the Georgetown people -they are wrong to stand up for what is theirs; go to hell go to hell, is not your dam business; those bastards)

Even those who love to cover truth and lies and will give me the thumbs down – they recognize who the real con artists are among us.

Religion is the play ground for crooks. In fact it was religous crooks who executed Jesus Christ; pastors demanding money from congregation so the pastors can live the lavir doux; As for those TV evangelist and.their TV scam shows. Someone at CBS should include these scam artists on the show “TO CATCH A PREDATOR”. The politicians in government should also be included. Their senior counsels and so called priests and pastors

    • Justice and Truth
      November 16, 2013

Do not include the priests in this. They are far removed from that.
Remember what Our Lord said about, “Foxes have dens but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.”
While they are priests, they reside in the rectory for the duration of the time they are there. When they are transferred to other parishes, all they take is their personal belongings.
They are not rich people, only getting a measly income and living a frugal life of poverty. Some of them who belong to the order of Redemptorist Priests took a vow of poverty. All priests live under obedience and in poverty.
Remember also what Our Lord said about, “Those who give up everything to follow him, houses and land…”
If priests do not live in this manner, they are not truthful to their vocation. Therefore, only mention ‘priests’ if you are aware that anyone of them live rich lives and not according to what is expected of them. If they do, it will be conspicuous to the parishioners.
From my childhood to adulthood, I know of no priests who live such lives. Therefore, be careful what you say about our Catholic priests. They do not fall in that category of demanding money in Church from their parishioners. It is unfair to place them in this category and criticize them in this case whatsoever.
How much can parishioners in Dominica or in the West Indies of all afford to give to the Church?
In Canada, practicing Catholics donate once a year to the Shepherd’s Trust for the priests and other religious retirement and for their medical expenses and others. Not all of them are fortunate to have parents/family who left money and property for them that they could enjoy in their retirement. We must take care of our priests when they retire and speak well of them. God is taking note of our words as imbedded in our thoughts and mind.

      • Jay
        November 17, 2013

Justice & truth, you really are blinkered when it comes to your beloved catholic church, which also happens to be my church. However, I am also enough of a realist to know that our church is as fallible as any other. I don’t even want to mention the well publisized sex abuses but give you an example to show that we are not lacking in the fraud department either. In 2009, Genesys Health Systems, a company owned by the catholic church was sued for fraud committed agains the U.S. Govt. (civil action no.06-10550, Eastern district of Michigan). This is just one example. The catholic church does make mistakes and we, as members of that church should be humble enough to realize that and be for ever vigilant.

In Canada and other big countries, if anyone issues NSF cheques and many times, they could be arrested. I would think, depending on the amount, it will be deemed a serious matter. Once could be viewed as a mistake but not two or more. They will be reported to the police and will be arrested. They will face the Court, will be charged and imprisoned. This man issued an exorbitant dollar amount.
In addition, their names will be placed in the Credit Agencies’ files. There are more than one in Canada. They will have a bad name and will never be able to get credit for at least seven years. If they continue to do this, it will be for more years and who knows, for as long as they live.
This man had the nerve to issue false cheques and in different countries and expect to get away with it. He was bold enough to go on Radio and deny wrongdoing when he fully knew what he had done. He should be imprisoned.

How many of us are deceived and taken advantage of, in the name of God? This is the vilest crime I know.

So, when you give someone a check does that not mean the same as cash? it would be the same as if he gave them counterfeit money is it not a fact that when you hand someone a check that you sign you are promising them by your signature that the money is in the bank? This bull shyat used to work in the old days not anymore now that everything is done electronically. He knew full well what he was doing.

As I understand it a cheque (check = the American spelling) is not cash but a “promissory note” and it is a criminal offence to issue one if the funds are not available to cover it.

  55. November 15, 2013

I am sorry to learn of this.

Let us not forget he is innocent until proven guilty regardless of how bad it looks for him now.

The police did the right thing to arrest him based on the evidence they had. It is for the court to decide if he is guilty.

The judge or jury will have to determine if what appears to be fraud were errors in judgment or if there was criminal intent. Perhaps the truth lies somewhere in between in the shadowy area of carelessness.

We do not condone people being rude to or acting disrespectfully towards the police even if they are being arrested. Christians believe in the rule of law and due process. Our attitude towards – and response to – the civil authorities is to be based upon Romans 13:1-4. If the police believe they have grounds to arrest me they must arrest me. I am suppose to go peacefully.

For those who are willing to use anything they can find to discredit genuine gospel work let me offer this.

    (a) Sometimes a honest man is the victim of another person’s negligence or wrong doing. Mr. Thomas said he thought the money would be in his account. This is something that should be investigated. The fact that it happened at least once before does not look good for him but a full investigation could yet clear him of intentional fraud even if it shows he is a poor business man.

    (b) It may be that the “Saving Souls” concert was a client of Mr. Thomas who may be a professional promoter. Mr. Thomas himself may not be an actual part of this ministry. Organizations who hire a promoter look for one with the necessary knowledge of the field; music, sports, politics, etc., and one they can strike a financial agreement with, etc., who has the time available for them. It is not fair to judge an organization by the personal failing of one person they contracted to do work for them.

    (c) Any negligence or wrong doing on the part of Mr. Thomas need not reflect on the integrity of the artist (artists) or the team, and it certainly does not tarnish the Christian community at large. (Some of the comments posted on DNO about Christians are totally inappropriate.) When an organization hires a promoter they sometimes take him at face value. Likely “Saving Souls” concert was not aware of Mr. Thomas’ past failures. They left certain financial responsibilities in his hands and trusted him to do things right.

In the beginning of my evangelistic work I had what I thought was a trustworthy man promoting my meetings in Canada. He would rent a venue and put out the advertising. I would trust him to talk to pastors and arrange for the co-operation of their churches. His efforts produced crowds filling buildings for powerful services. Then once when my wife and I were conducting a crusade in Mexico our “promoter” was arrested in Canada on a charge totally unrelated to our ministry. When we arrived home we learned that he was in prison. We never worked with him again. But I should have been more careful who I associated with. If I had looked closer I would have seen the red flags.

I hope those who enjoy this kind of music (as I do) will support the “Saving Souls” concert. May God use it to uplift and bless many lives! Let us pray for Mr. Thomas. We have to leave the rest to the police and the court. Pray they will do what is right.

Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Pentecostal Evangelist.

Most of these so-called evangelicals are no more than snake-oil salesmen. trained in the U.S. way of mass marketing to make people feel guilty if they do not make a financial contribution to “God’s” work. Show me a poor “pastor”, walking around bare foot in sandals like St. Francis.

      • November 18, 2013

        Malgraysa:

You say that “most evangelicals” (I think you most evangelists not evangelicals) are “snake oil salesmen.”

Some are but certainly not most. This is a very unfair statement  to make.

        Are all politicians liars :?:

Are all used care salesmen crooks :?:

        Are all doctors quacks :?:

        Are all lawyers rogues :?:

        Are all managers tyrants :?:

        Are all priests pedophiles :?:

Allow me to inform you that most evangelists are professionals 8) in the religious life :-o respected by those who know them best and dedicated to not only sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ in a convincing way but to compassionately helping people who are in need.

Those who have by their own sacrifice and hard work have been able to build big ministries are well known for their relief work among unfortunate and suffering people. If you have followed the disaster that hit the Philippines days ago you saw 8-O some of the “big name” evangelists and their organizations on the forefront of the relief efforts taking in food and medical supplies, and setting up shelters.

Not all evangelists become famous :-x like Billy Graham. Not all are able to build great organizations like the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. Most are small. But they have answered God’s call. Some have lived – and still live – very sacrificially. But they have made and continue to make their contribution.

St. Francis wore sandals but so did most of the men of his day. I wear running shoes when I’m not in church.

Unfortunately there have been and are religious racketeers. But the same is true in the business world, the professional world, and the political world. A genuine evangelist :-D will have received some basic training to equip him for the work that he sets out to do. He will not be a free lancer! He will have a connection to an established and recognized group of churches. He will be answerable to somebody who is over him. If he misbehaves there must be a “higher-up” who can revoke his license! Don’t be afraid the ask any evangelist or traveling religious worker who :?: he is accountable to! Write it down :!: You may need it!

Personally I meet these qualifications as do my associates in evangelism. So please don’t lump us together with the small percentage of bad guys! Don’t tar us all with the same brush!

        Blessings!

Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Pentecostal Evangelist.

Rev. Donald Hill how do you call a man who does the following:

      1. Uses God’s name/religion to con/rob people?
      2. Promotes a Gospel Concert after getting funding from a business man then waits on the day of the concert to pass around in all ticket outlets and collect all the monies without the knowledge of the businessman/investor?
      3. What kind of man will write so many bad cheques to Grenadian business places and then go on radio and say ‘I am covered by god they can’t do me anything’ after he would have wrote over 5 cheques worth over $150,0000?
      4. What kind of man takes your hard earned money claiming it is for a Gospel Convert when if fact he ain’t really care anything about God?

The boy have charges to the answer througout the Caribbean beginning with St. Lucia

      • November 19, 2013

        Grenadian:

Thank you for reading my comments and replying.

All I know is what I read on DNO. I tried to put the pieces together and gain an understanding of what happened. My comments were meant to suggest possibilities and help people avoid drawing premature conclusions.

Thank you for giving me a better focus. Obviously I didn’t have all the facts. I apologize for not being more careful and especially for anything I said that was misleading.

I am based in Canada but I do conduct many evangelistic services in the Caribbean. I have ministered on four of the islands and on one of them four times. In my type of work we do cross paths with various singing groups. A pastor will sometimes invite me in to conduct an evangelistic crusade and invite a singing group in to share one of the services. I have no control over what group he uses so I can only hope they are true Christians – sanctified and filled with the Holy Ghost and fire – not entertainers who can’t make it in the world and think the Christians are a soft touch.

Please allow me to comment on your letter which I take seriously.

I do not entirely understand # 2, but it doesn’t sound good. As for # 1, # 3, and # 4, they do indeed paint a bad picture. If this is Mr. Thomas he is not a person I could recommend, and I would not associate with him. I do hope a true profile of this man will reach the Christians throughout the Caribbean and the pastors will make wise choices when it comes to who they invite or do not invite to minister in their churches.

Doctrinal soundness, moral purity, and financial integrity are all things we must require of those who stand before God’s people. Sometimes singing groups (and other types of “ministries”) who would not pass the close inspection of the pastors and know they will not get into established churches will rent their own venue – a hall or auditorium – which places them completely in charge. They then can put out their own advertising, and sell their tickets, or received their own offerings.

If the “show” or “service” is not approved by a reputable pastor or endorsed by an established church it should raise a red flag.

Personally, I am discussed by the way some of these people raise money and handle their finances. I am in a gospel ministry – it is not entertainment.
My services are either conducted in churches or
under the sponsorship of a church or churches unless we are breaking into a new region where there is no existing church. I do not ask for money. Usually the pastor receives a free will offering for the expenses.

You are doing the right thing by exposing the crooks who pose as gospel workers. Let’s get rid of them! However, the pastors I have ministered with in the Caribbean put the interests of their people ahead of their own. It has been an honor to work with them. They are people of integrity.

Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Pentecostal Evangelist. Executive Director of Living Hope Ministries.

My people of Dominica, I hope you can view this incident and to believe that God will not tolerate evil in our country–no matter what we believe, I know that He will and is protecting us.

Here we have this man writing checks, in advance, for money he would be receiving from our people for a show which is definitely all about money–nothing to do with being part of the grounding in the Love of Jesus, Life in the soul, which all of mankind needs–that includes our people of Dominica. Look at the reason below, for this attitude of the wicked mind:

1 Timothy 6:10 (New King James Version) “For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows”. Unless Mr. Thomas has a heart of repentance, he is surely in that substance of sorrow right now.

My people I hope that you have not yet paid your money for this show–and if you do, I pray that you will be able to get your money back. For if this show is still on, I would not attend it–it does not belong to the things of our God of Love. Blessings!

    • November 19, 2013

      You are right! :)

In Canada men have been shot dead by the police while they were resisting arrest. This has happened here in my Province of Ontario within the past five years, not once but repeatedly, again and again.

We have a right to expect the police to be professional and polite even when they are arresting somebody. But nobody has a right to resist arrest. Christians believe in the rule of law and due process according to Romans 13:1-4. Even a bishop, priest, pastor, or an evangelist is not above the law. If the police want to arrest me I am to go peacefully! Then I have a right to a lawyer and I can tell my side to the judge. This is due process according to the rule of law. 8-O

Don’t get me wrong. Here in Canada the law does not allow the police to shoot a suspect unless the officer’s or another person’s life is being threatened. But sad to say it has happened.

All I know about the police in Dominica is what I learn from DNO but it seems to me they are doing a good job :-D but they should not be taken advantage of. The Bible says their job is to “…to execute WRATH :-x upon him that does evil…” (Romans 13:4)

@Met Yo – VOL was never in-charge of this guy neither did they bring him in to hold any concert.

Rather he came to them with his plans but upon doing background checks on him, VOL became suspicious of him and sought to distance themselves from him.

Their letter informing him of they not wanting to have any association to him was sent out to him late in October or so. Listen to VOL’s public statement on the issue.

They are not putting the name of God to shame. He is making a mockery of those who listen to him and who leave their religion to follow him and is shaming them.
God is God. No harm could ever be done to him and his Holy Name. He is in Heaven looking down, seeing and hearing everything which is done on this earth. He looks on in disdain at such people who think they can save people as they deceive them. Only God saves! He will deal with them in time.
This man is the one who puts himself to shame. You know what is contained in Holy Scripture about false prophets.

Roseau Credit Union or National Co-operative Credit Union (NCCU)opening an account for someone who is not a resident, certainly does not have a locall address where utility bills are adressed for the last four months and whatever lese is beingdemanded for locals residents to open an acount. The board of Directors must now tell its mebers what due diligence was undertaken to facilitate the con man with his intelligent talk. I have always maintained that the biggest con men always are well prepared to speak their way into and out of people’s life. Does that ring a bell Dominica. Smooth articulate and very intelligent talker withe talker with many exciting promises only to learn that they are just con men/women. So much for our smooth talkers.

Folks, continue to be on the alert for entities out there who hide behind the name of God to fulfill their own personal unbiblical agendas.

I say well done to VOL and the Dominica Evangelical Association for maintaining a stance of integrity and not compromising to suit the whims and fancies of ‘strange entities’.

The scriptures caution that in these last days, Christians ought to be on the alert for the various manifestations of false prophets who are primarily on beguiling missions. The scriptures say in 2 Corinthians 11:14 that Satan is able to masquerade as an angel of light.

Folks, read God’s word so you all will know how to spot these false prophets when they appear on the scene.

They should do to him what the police did to the Guyanese who came to Dominica and picked people’s pockets during carnival back in the 1970’s. They caught the culprits at the airport trying to leave.

They brought them back to police headquarters. Let’s just say, they will never return to DA and rob our people again. The police taught them a good lesson for their bad behaviour.

    • Justice and Truth
      November 15, 2013

Not all of them who talk in tongues are authentic ones. Satan can make many do these things.

    • November 16, 2013

There are three ways to speak in tongues.

      (1) As the Spirit gives utterance. (Acts 2:4)

      (2) By fleshly imitation.

      (3) By demonic counterfeit.

If you read the New Testament you will find the Christians of the first century also had their problems from time to time. Several of the churches were very troubled congregations with problems worthy of a soap opera. There were also breakdowns of various kinds among the workers resulting in controversy and division.

Added to this we have examples of those who pretended to be true believers in Jesus Christ but came into the churches – not to worship – but to satisfy their own needs. Some of the Christians fell into sins of gross immorality. There were also false teachers, false prophets, and false apostles who pretended to be ministers of God but lied for monetary gain or to draw away disciples after themselves.

True believers came together to sing God’s praises, worship, read the Holy Scriptures, and pray. Yes, those who received the “filling” of the Holy Spirit spoke in tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance!

The problems in the churches, the pretenders, and false ministers never stopped God from pouring out the Holy Spirit upon His seeking people, and DID NOT INVALIDATE the wonderful manifestations of God’s presence. The gospel spread and the churches grew.

There are now OVER 64 million Christians world wide who are members of – or worship in – churches that believe in the Holy Spirit manifestation of speaking in tongues. I personally am part of one organization called the “World Wide Assemblies of God Fellowship” which unites 64,000,000 people around the world but there are other groups with different names following the same faith. We are often called Pentecostals because the world recognized what we have is what the first disciples received on the Day of Pentecost in Acts 2 and slapped that name on us!

So my friend please do not speak lightly of “tongues” or mock something you do not understand. When you do it not only offends many sincere God loving people. It is a sin against God. I could tell you of great calamity that has fallen upon people who have done this and upon their families.

You are dealing with something very real.

I pray God will not lay this sin to your charge. If you repent our God will abundantly pardon.

Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Pentecostal Evangelist.

        November 18, 2013

dear Reverend, I’m sure our Lord understands all languages so why speak in “tongues” that can only serve to set you apart from other human beings, not God! Some people struggle to speak in plain English but I prefer that and leave the rest to the almighty Father.

Do not be silly! Not all of them will be so stupid to give you in the name of religion! You cannot purchase the Word of God.
I am a proud member of the Catholic Church. Note, if you go to that Church, you give what you can afford. They never dictate to you what to give. This is the manner in every Catholic Church around the world.
Coincidentally, I also heard it this evening on the US Catholic Radio on a Call-In Show. The host was responding to a woman who called in and said she had a concern about not being able to give in Church. This was not the topic but some people ask certain questions which are on their mind and which bother them.
She was advised accordingly – give what you can. If you cannot give, do not feel guilty. It is almsgiving. God knows her means. Those who can give, give as much as they can. Those who cannot give much, give what they can. If they cannot give, they will not be hated and told to give and thrown out of the Church. Thank God for this Church which, in these times of the Great Apostasy, some people do not appreciate. They rather follow false prophets who will bilk them.
