Police intercept drug boat; third in three days

A juvenile was among seven persons arrested by the police yesterday in an open keel boat which contained a quantity of drugs.

Police Public relations officer Sergeant Kent Matthew reports that at 8:30 pm a coast guard vessel intercepted the boat which was being powered by two 40-horse powered Yahama outboard motors. This is the third boat of similar type the police have intercepted in three days.

The boat was on its way to Guadeloupe after being pushed out from a bay near Portsmouth.

On board the vessel were two crew members, four adult male passengers and the juvenile. Also on board was a quantity of ganja and cocaine.

All passengers were taken into custody and the boat seized, Sergeant Matthew said.

      @ Times

You say everyone has a right to do as they please and then you say believe in God.
We may have a right but we do not have a right to perform evil as drugs.
God gave us a free mind. It is that same free mind which will either save us or condemn us. Therefore, “having a right to do as they please” in this case is out of it. Let us speak the truth that we do not have a right to do evil. There is one way and it is the way of God; no other way. Comprehend!

I dont support drug pushing neither addiction. But one have to be realistic and cant deny that poverty, lack of jobs, lack of training and lack of opportunity is a breeding ground for crime, violence and drug activity. Everything have a root cause behind it.
Alot of people might say that the youth can go plant banana, dasheen and yam to make a living, and that might be true. But it is unfair to ask a young person to go do farming. After they watch their parents work hard farming to send them school , feed and clothe them; making it worst there is no steady market for agri-produce. We should be employing this youths as accountants, nurses, doctors, engineers, teachers, lawyers, managers; but guess what these are jobs are not readily available.

    • still
      September 21, 2011

i really wonder what kind of genius are you. alot of our young men are not interested in gettin a good education. it is too much work. now what is wrong with farming. eventually when this island is full of nurses doctors lawyers and everything else i said the farmer will be king since everyone must eat.we are all afraid of farming but we cry when the farmer charges $5 for a head of lettuce. oh and i did not realise that these professionals not Farmers produced marijuana

      • caribbean genius
        September 21, 2011

And why is it that they are not interested in a good education?
Is it because they see their older siblings or people in the community that is educated and jobless? So to them it makes no sense.
Or is it because they see educated people struggling to get anywhere on small salaries in a country with one of the highest cost of living? So to them it dont make sense
Or is it because they see is the drug dealers in dominica is the only on prospering if you dont have a bourgeois surname. So to them its more appealing..
        That kind of genius(commonsense)

      September 21, 2011

Lack of jobs and poverty is not an excuse for involvement in such activities. If you notice many of those involved in the drug trade are employed and some have left good jobs to deal drugs. Poverty and joblessness are real and yes the Government of the day must address these issues, but as a people we also have a responsibility to encourage others not to get involved in them no matter what the situation is.

The boat was pushed out of a bay near portsmouth. i am not a supporter of traffickers of drugs but i am from portsmouth and when the police make such statements i get offended because they know in which bay the drug men were caught so just say it and let people know. which bay is it mr. police p.r.o. tell us the exact area dont tell us its a bay near portsmouth since the drugs did not originate in portsmouth nor was it shipped from portsmouth. stop hiding and come out and tell us from which bay it was shipped. WE ALSO HOPE THOSE CAUGHT EVEN THE JUVENILE ARE DEALT WITH VERY SERIOUSLY BY THE COURTS. ITS TIME WE STAMP OUT THIS DRUG PROBLEM FROM OUR SOCIETY…

In this age, wire-tapping is necessary. We better get used to it and cease complaining, for those who do.
Know that there is no privacy on the Internet as also on the telephone. This is the era we are presently residing in. Those hard core criminals and terrorists must be caught before they destroy human beings/the world. If we want a safe, healthy world and secured world, it is necessary. We who are law-abiding have nothing to fear.

Do you seriously think that. I bet the ones caught are only the little sprats, working for the biggger fish. That money would never be spent at the WCMF (let alone Dominica). It would only finance the next drug shipment.

The fact that it was leaving Dominica is not the point. Maybe they should have been caught in Guadeloupe, I’m sure that the authorities there would give them tougher sentences.
