Police release Ashton Telemacque

A man who was arrested and taken into custody after a sub-machine gun and other ammunition were reportedly found in the vehicle he was driving has been released.

The police have confirmed that Ashton Telemacque was released upon instructions from the Director of Public Prosecutions.

However, according to the police, investigations into the matter are still continuing.

Telemacque was arrested at the Wood Bridge Bay Port on Friday after one sub-machine gun, 24 rounds of 9mm ammunition, four 12-gauge rounds of shot-gun ammunition and one round of .45 caliber ammunition were allegedly found in the vehicle he was driving.

The police said the 27-year-old truck driver was to appear in court on Tuesday but his no-show prompted DNO to begin asking questions.

Attempts on Tuesday afternoon, to get a comment from the DPP  proved futile .

That Police Force needs a complete purge from top to bottom.

well you people have made your comments it is now time for me to make mine.

Ashton was not and will not be in possession of such high powered gun without an accomplice.

As far as the info reaching me indicates he was doing his friend a favor on the day in question and the gun which is always a part of that vehicle was discovered.

It is now left for the authorities to do due diligence and investigate this incident to the full brunt of the law.

Then Dominicans will be able to make their true assumption of JUSTICE in sweet DOMINICA.

Francisco Telemaque it seems like the COPS were trying to wash the situation under the already dirty rug but under the rug have so much garbage already that this one bounce back.I always felt that the telemaque dude could not be so foolish to drive around with that kind of weaponery. Because the evidence and suspicions points in the direction of the police they tried to sneak the case out in the middle of the night. Boy look corruption.

I have read many times that Dominica criminal activity is not like tue U.S.A , but the rate it is going it is not far behnd, Let it be corrected before it gets worse. The drugs and guns will detroy this beautiful island. And I want to move back home. As a former Federal Agent and law enforcement officer many changes can be implemented. Let us not wait before it gets worse.

Maybe the police are embarrassed and don’t want to press the case if it should turn out that the gun in question is one missing from their armory? Who knows.

Not surprised at the DPP at all. You must ask Dr. Benjamin if he is surprised at that ruling. When is this DPP contract going to expire? Remember the young lady from Mahaut and what she did to her children?
On the other hand a police officer is under pressure for protecting his daughter and others at Convent from a nuisance.
I have no problem with Telemaque being released but someone else has to be arrested. someone has to be responsible for this heavily armed vehicle.

I see nothing fishy about this. A man was driving a police vehicle to the port. A machine gun was found in the vehicle. Due to the fact that the man was released, I can assume the gun did not belong to him. I can also assume that he did not know that the gun was in the vehicle. So why is Dominicans so fast to assume the worse? I have been reading the comments, as well as following this story. It appears to me at this point the truth really is not important if the truth does not confirm that this man is a criminal, or he knows somebody, or the system is corrupted. It appears that the public is more out on a “witch hunt” regardless of whether this man is innocent or not. It is sad to see the thinking process of our society.

If all you know the details, give the police the information. From what I have read so far everybody seems to be investigator, judge and jury. The police nor the court do not have to give all the details as to what transpired. We may have a problem in DA with illegal weapons but bear in mind that disclosing too much information may work against the police efforts in cracking down on such activity. So people, do not speculate so much that it really sounds ridiculous!

Now we want to know why he was just “released” with know explaination. The law should be for all and not for a selected few.

Wow!!!!!!!!! Questions have to be asked when persons, whether knowingly or unknowingly carry high powered weapons around a country as small as ours where only a few years ago one could go to sleep in one’s home with the doors unlocked. Whether the gentleman knew, or did not know that these weapons were in the car, the investigation should continue and the truth be told while following due process! Questions should be asked of the ‘police officer’ who supposedly is owner or keeper of the weapon, as to why that weapon ALONG WITH AMMUNITION, is sitting in the back of a car in which other persons are present and he is not, when he is the one with ultimate responsibility for these objects of death. If this weapon is police property, it should be sign out and kept on one’s person until the end of a shift, at which point it should be signed back in! If this weapon is let out of one’s sight and is used at any time in a violent act while signed out under one’s name, then one should be held responsible for that lapse in supervision and should be held accountable. We cannot have a position where people are lax about weapons for which they are responsible and no one is held accountable when things go wrong. We must ask as well, for an explanation from the DPP as to the reasons why this gentleman has not been made to go through the due process procedure and why? Who ultimately gave the instruction to release him from the court’s jurisdiction (if that is in fact the case), and why? People, we the population, NOT THE OPPOSITION BUT THOSE IN OPPOSITION TO THE SYSTEMATIC DESTRUCTION OF OUR SOCIETY AND ITS VALUES NORMALLY HELD DEAR AND MAINTAINED BY THE RULE OF LAW AND ACCOUNTABILITY, need to make our voices heard and make meaningful contributions to the protection of those values and laws BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE!!!!!!!!!!!!! DEMAND ACCOUNTABILITY MY PEOPLE, FROM THOSE WHO ARE IN POSITIONS OF POWER BECAUSE IF YOU DO NOT, SINCE THEY LEAD BY EXAMPLE, THIS LACK OF ACCOUNTABILITY WILL GO UNCHECKED AND WILL FILTER THROUGH THE ENTIRE SOCIETY AND BECOME THE NORM, AT WHICH POINT WE WILL FIND OURSELVES IN SOMETHING OF A WARZONE, OVER WHICH WE WILL HAVE NO INFLUENCE FOR EFFECTING POSITIVE CHANGE. I have seen it before in other countries……… CORRUPTION TO THE CORE RESULTING IN A SITUATION OF HOPELESSNESS AND ABSOLUTE WEAKNESS ON THE PART OF THE POOR MAJORITY WHO ARE AT THE MERCY OF THE RICH AND ABSOLUTELY CORRUPT. Mark my words my people, if unchecked, this situation will not lead to development and progress for all, but instead, a situation where we loose everything to those who refuse to be held accountable to the people!!!!!!!! WAKE UP MY PEOPLE…….DON’T BE FOOLED BY WHAT YOU SEE AROUND YOU…….BE HAPPY FOR THE ‘DEVELOPMENT’BUT DEMAND ACCOUNTABILITY ALONG WITH IT, OTHERWISE YOU ARE LOOSING CONTROL OF YOUR HOMELAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! God save our country…………

We are discussing the constitution these days. The DPP hs wide powers to institute, takeover, continue or discontinue any criminal matter in the courts and he is not obliged to give any person body or people any explanation for his actions. That is power garcon. Ask Lennox why the DPP should give an explanation and what law he has broken. Lennox will and must know.

I ave come to the conclusion that there is no effective governmental and law system in SWEET DOMINICA. Guilty or not, that individual was caught with ammunition and a high powered rifle. The public’s safety is at stake here whether or not he had intentions of using it. As a 27 year old young man, he should have asked the owner or checked the trunk for contraband or illegal things, before driving to the port, or maybe he already knew it was in there….Well Dominica, you voted for this and thats what you will get.

Charges were dropped and he was released. You cannot be charged and released. Once a person is charged they appear before the courts are formally charged and bailed or denied bail; due to the charge they can plea either guilty or not guilty or if it’s an offense that carries a serious punishment no plea is needed.
