Carnival celebrations is said to have gone by generally well with very few reported incidents. Acting Assistant Superintendent of Police, Claude Weekes, told members of the media on Wednesday that the number of people apprehended for minor offenses on carnival Monday and Tuesday were under 20, an improvement to the statistics of previous years.
“We are indeed pleased to report that everything went reasonably well as compared to years before. We are pleased to report just a few people from the Roseau catchment area was taken to court this morning. Normally we would have had 40, 50 if not 60 people for the two day period of Monday and Tuesday jump up. However, this time we saw under 20 people and half of those were related to carnival activities. That spells well, in fact, it is unprecedented,” Weekes said.
The police are encouraged by the level of cooperation displayed by the members of the public in ensuring that Dominica’s carnival was a peaceful one.
“Indeed, we see a manifest display of cooperation by the public and we have to commend the public for working with the police and for heeding the call as well. We disseminated quite a bit of information before the celebrations and went on to explain the laws and rules and regulations, stating what was required of the public. However, without the public’s cooperation and participation working together collaboratively with the police, I am not sure that we would be reporting how well carnival went,” Weekes pointed out.
Weekes continued, “Commendations were also in order for the police officers who carried out their functions effectively during the carnival season. There was a notable presence of police officers at activities for this year’s carnival celebrations.”

Dominica legal system is a joke… It’s like a 3 ring circus… You don’t even have to be involved with a crime, just be in the vicinity, to go to jail and caught up in a case that lasts years… Forget it if you make a mistake and try to change your life… Once they put you in the system you never get out… Just delayed cases until the end of time… Taking your passport for a misdemeanor crime and then trap you forever until your case is heard… But HEY if you are a big time drug dealer you can kill people, degrade the island by selling drugs and turn people into addicts, destroy lives and still walk the streets with your passport… What a GREAT lesson we are teaching our children… Crime pays… And you don’t have to worry about ever going to jail… But don’t try to make something of yourself and be in the wrong place at the wrong time or make a small mistake you’ll go to jail and never be able to move forward because you cases will last 4 + years… What a JOKE!!! I used to be so proud of my country and where I come from brag to all my american friends about how great it is and how they should visit… How they should buy land and invest… In fact I convinced my dad, an american, to buy land so we can build a home in DA… Well… I’m putting a halt to all of it… I no longer wish to invest in DA not with the system being so messed up… I could just be trying to have a good time spend my money and wind up in jail… NOT a good look… DA is turning into one of those countries we hear about on the news that everybody is scared to go to because police are outta control and do what they want and if u end up in the legal system for a petty crime you wind up in jail serving sentences like you murdered someone… When tourism is your main source of income NOT A GOOD LOOK…
stop bitchingggggg and repeating the same sentence over and over… That wholeeee paragraph u wrote wtf does it have to do with the article…Typical dominican… Talking bout your dad is an american, american my azzzzzz….Seems like u broke the law and u wanted to go scotch free when u went on your little vacation.. Well my dear don’t go back there but stop bad mouthing my country of birth. So u guys don’t build your house back home, ain’t no one gonna shed tears… Poeple like u dread are the ones who make dominica have a nagative look bec u talk smack…..
well said tash….my 2 cents is ppl like u the so all golden child..that comes to the golden land of Dominica and think u can do all your crap and get away with it…where more than in america ppl get arrested for nothing..just for being black u get arested in america…so ppl like u should shut up and when u do your crime at home expect to pay the time…by the way as a matter of fact dont set foot back in Dominica cause u only bring shame to us….until u learn to behave yourself stay where u are…
Gosh! You had a lot of bad luck in Dominica papa. All that happend to little ole you? Calm down and do not blow a gasket—you and your daddy may keep your money, and Dominica, will keep their land.
Where as in Trinidad their murder rate just went pass 80 and we are in the 3rd month of the year. They had 12 murders from Friday to Ash Wednesday.
Atleast dominicans behave better when they are drunk!!!!!!!!! Bravo
thats great!!!
Thats great to hear job well done to both the police officers on duty and persons who took part in this years celebration
just keep that fool alpha locked n send gaynproud to keep him company once a while n our val will be good
Its rather sad that a young man would throw away his future time and time again simply because he can not controll his anger, i hope that this time he will be able to see how he is wasting his life and negatively affecting the lives of his family memeber, everytime he takes 1 step forward he goes 10 steps back. I hope he wakes up and smells the coffee soon
Probably “Alpha” needs a little good mouthing from peeps like you and probably prohesise a little good on his life. With motuthing like yours and wishing him all the bad in the world, the enemy is laughing and singing for joy since you and some others aim to keep him just there . When he takes one step forward (good) when the enemy is pulling him backwards, which one of us is there to help him fight against the ‘Evil One’ Our mouth can do better by speaking life unto Alpha and all the other young troubled young men and women in our country. Who knows who is the “Evil One’s” next victim. It could be right in our own backyard!
Be careful what we say with our mouth. Death and life is in the power of the tongue.
Finally let me say something that probably ‘readers’ would not like . We ( I put myself as well) are the ones who are causing the malaise in our country. Yes we are the ones. We only evil and bad things and wish others the worse…. We always know what will happen to ‘this one and that one’ and it is only evil and evil and bad we wish not remembering that we have children, wives, husband, mothers, aunts you name it and when bad things come face to face with us, they are the manifestations of our tongues … sometimes goes around and comes around.
Let us repent of this ill and try to say something good about our fellowmen and if we can’t say something positive say nothing and pray for our youths. Be a shinning light to them.
