Senior cop: No stones will be left unturned during money laundering investigations

Deputy Police Commissioner Cyril Carrette says the authorities are keeping a sharp lookout for individuals who launder the proceeds of illicit activity.

His comment comes in the wake of raids and arrests made by officers of the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) regarding allegations of money laundering.

“What we are now seeing is that people are getting rich without doing a stroke of work and they cannot account for monies and properties obtained,” Carrette said in an interview.

He says that law enforcement authorities are now on the “look out” for persons who have been unemployed, yet become rich overnight and cannot give an account of their wealth.

The top cop is confident that money laundering on island is linked to the illicit drug trade and is posing a challenge for law enforcement officers. However, he says that despite the challenges posed they will not be deterred.

He is warning that no stones will be left unturned in the move to clamp down on the illicit trade.

Freedom of speech is evident in Dominica. To summarize on the numerous response, it appears that we are faced with many personal, institutional, and economic problems in our beautiful Dominica. The real solution / response is “Government Take Control but Please Set Example If Need To.”

@NATURE BOY: Your comments are well delivered and constructed. We need to invest more into the Police Force not only in numbers, but in sophistication and intelligence. The Police need superior force, skills and technology to outwmart those who have no regard for the laws of the land.

Lets not link all money laundering to drug related crimes, there is widespread money laundering being done within our own government, from all the way UP TOP.

Big time white collar crime, and it may not involve drugs, its just stealing money. Simple as that. Taking gifts which they are not entitled to. Am I right when I say, that government officials are NOT supposed to accept gives of any kind, and if they do, it belongs to the sate?

Well, what I say i that they are accepting the gifts (bribes) and filling their pockets.

When the red clinic was running, for every dollar they dished out a dollar went into the pocket. Who’s ever accounted for the red clinic? How much money was handed out??? Does anyone even care?

Anyways, I think this is a lost case, we are just going nowhere, and unless we want to save ourselves, WE as Dominican’s have to speak ou, act out, demand it actually. Whether you are red, blue green or otherwise. This is NOT about politics, is about whats RIGHT and what’s WRONG.
It’s about heading in the right direction, and maybe really taking it to the next level….

Mr. Carette, I truely believe that you have good intentions and will do all you can to bring the pepertrators to justice. But, good luck because you will need more than just luck to succeed. Like it or not, we need a commission of inquiry into the police force by independent persons. There are criminal elements within the force that facilitate criminal transactions including money laundering and drug delaings. It is even public knowledge that some officers provided security to some of those recently arrested at private parties.

While we understand that hearsay is not acceptable in a court of law, it is a well known fact that where there is smoke then there is fire. Let a commission of inquiry take place and take decisive action based on the recommendations. A lot of people will get caught in the inquiry but at the end of the this will help clean the force and allow for a new start. Please send the officers on leave while the inquiry is taking place to allow for an unbiased investigation. Let us take heed of what is happening next door (Lucia) and be proactive to avoid the same fate.

The police if they are serious must call on either Scotland Yard or the FBI to dig deeper. If they don’t then they are a big joke. This has the very real potential of probably taking down the government. So there must be obstruction of justice going forward unless there is an outside investigative force to dig deeper- The top cop knows that. We need that othe rwise look out another Dudus is wating to happenin Dominica.

Where is the Miinister of Security on all that? In stead of dealing with this pressing issuer. he is’ talking stuff’ in Salisbury. He knows that the ‘SituaTION’ and CondiTION’ are very bad now.

MR Carrette, I do hope you are serious about stamping out corruption in wonderful Dominica. There is an immediate need to save Dominica. Please save Dominica before it becomes “SCUMINICA” But you have to start from the top down. Please clean up the police force first and then the civilian criminals. One cannot stamp out corruption without starting at the top. Like Crazy sang, “Nowadays it is stiff competition between the police force and civilians ,any thing civilians do police doing it too”. If you want to stamp out corruption by first starting at the bottom,”You have a Tiger by its tail” You have to grab the tiger by it’s head and then making it’s body lifeless, then we will stamp out corruption. There is much mischief in the Dominica police service than in the civilian community. Clean up the darn police force and make Dominica better. The good old days of good policing in Dominica are all gone. God save Dominica from these “Vile Vultures and Buzzards”

IT IS CLEAR THAT THE POLICE IS PAID TO ENSURE THAT THE UNDERPRIVILEGE LIVE LIKE DOG. NOT EVERY WANT TO B A LIABILITY (PUBLIC SIRVANT) LIVING ON TAX PAYERS MONEY.THEY ARE OTHER WAYS TO MAKE MONEY LIKE PROSTITUTION ,BEGGING,PREACHING,POLITICS. GHETTO PEOPLE ARE DISTROYED FROM PRIMARY SCHOOL. ALL TEACHERS HATE KIDS FROM THE GHETTO,BECAUSE THERE PAIRENTS DO NOT HAVE TO GIVE OR ARE NOT THE TEACHER TYPE.THEY BEAT,INSULT THESE KIDS ALL DAY.THE RESULT IS THEY ARE AFRAID AND UNHAPPY AT SCHOOL, THEY SIT IN THE CLASS MOST TIMIS AT THE LAST ROWS,WHEN THE TEACHER HAS HER TYPE KIDS IN THE FOWARD ROWS. WHAT IS THE RESULT… THOSE IN FRONT GET THE FUNDAMENTAL OF EDUCATION THEY ARE SUCESSFULL AND THOSE AT THE BACK BECOME FAILER….. THE SUCCESSFUL ONES GET THERE CXC,BSSE MSSE ,THE UNSUCCESSFUL ONES TURN TO STREETLIFE IF THEY ARE BRAVE OR YOUR CLEANERS AND LABOURERS. WHOSE FALT. I LOVE DOMINICA BUT THE UPPER CLASS STINKS. THIS IS THE MOST PEACEFUL COUNTRY ON EARTH. LET THE GHETTO PEOPLE ALONE. POLICE DONT KILL GHETTO PEOPLE HERE NUFF RESPECT….CYRIL BACK OFF SATAN.

Why is it so much emphasis is placed on the drug dealers yet little is place on the murderers? Not condoning the act but yet still have to question our motives. Is it more an act out of jealousy seeing the unemployed having so much wealth without hard work although some may argue it is not easy or is it about saving our youths. Where are the jobs, recreation provided to keep the young people out of trouble, what strict measure are in place to punish them for thieft, rape, killing, and of course selling drugs? We have seen amoung us so many times the rich escape and the poor suffer. I do agree with the other comments, Mr Carette u have to clean your background first ( the abusers, the alcoholics, the durg dealers,) and then we may get somewhere. Not forgetting the parents they have so much balme to accept themselves. They encourage a lot of non sense and so much lack of discipline from a young age and then later they cry…please give me a break … although some persons do take their own way agreed. In closing it takes the parents and community to raise a child and those things do not exist anymore.

I keep saying the same thing we need to get the job done but there is still not enough being invested in our national security. the strength of the force is the same as it was 20 years ago. Recruiting 50 new officers is not going to be sufficent . I understand the economics behind it however it is going to cost much more to take our country back from these criminals later. Because by then the would have out numbered us with their money, their weapons and the works. By then we won’t be counting money we will be counting bodies. Lets not 4get Jamaica. All the money the Govt. is investing else where will be in vain if our children cannot enjoy it in safety. I know it might not be possble to increase the foce by 100% which is wat will need right now however we need to bring onboard at least 200 new police officers. Bearing in mind that we also need to get rid of those who are on the criminals payroll. I see we building new highways who is going to be patroling them to ensure that we are safe while using them? I will rest my case for now untill next time.

well well. what does he mean not making a stroke of work. B.S these ppl work hard for their dollars. climbing mountains, travelling rough seas, running from police. i havent seen any1 of these guys picking money on trees. what i have seen is they risking their lives. the gov is just jealous that some ppl are having so much luxury while they have 2 work their whole life 2 get 1/2 of what these guys have. as for employment where the f in dominica can u get a job. if half of DA wasnt support on d money we would b poorer than haiti. really dominican just cant use commonsense. well in aint going 2 go just so. the govrnmnt want riot cause this aint america where ppl just sit and let the gov dictate 2 them.
P.S domincia is now under dicattorship/comunnism government. i rembr when twas election they stuck up a paper saying dont vote workers casue a lb of suagr will be $1.15 bcasue of VAT. well its now $1.50 and the VAT still there. thats like america claiming it went 2 iraq 4 weapons of mass destruction. haha not 1 proof of that yet. just like not not one piece of evidence worker did corruptn.
