Fletcher was arrested on Thursday afternoon

Windward Island cricketer Andre Fletcher was arrested at the Douglas Charles Airport on Thursday afternoon.

Sources told DNO that 50 rounds of ammunition were found in his possession.

DNO understands that Fletcher has been in Dominica for several days practicing with his team, the Windward Island Volcanoes.

Manager of the Volcanoes, Lockhard Sebastian, told DNO on Thursday evening that he is aware of the arrest and will give Fletcher his full support.

“I will support him, I will not abandon him … that is the job of a manager,” he remarked.

He said Fletcher was leaving the island when the incident occurred.

DNO understands that the cricketer is being held at the Calibishie Police Station.

He will make a court appearance in Wesley on Friday (tomorrow).

Fletcher is a Grenadian national and a wicket keeper.

He played for the West Indies team in the 2006 U-19 Cricket World Cup in Sri Lanka.

He must have heard of the guy that was coming to Dominica with a loaded gun, and over 50 rounds and then then national security minister said he was just coming to get his child and everything died there, so the poor Grenadian Cricketer must have thought that the same minister is now president of Dominica, so getting some 50 rounds is nothing. The new Dominica is the place where corruption, no law or constitution dwells so why not get your stuff here. I wonder where he got them from

It’s a good thing it wasn’t Vescott Jones working at the security check point. He probably would have taken the country’s laws into his own hand again and allow the man a break to go back outside to give it to someone.

Some people may be popular. Too often they are exalted. I must state, rightfully so due to their capability and achievements. However, can they be trusted? Note this man and what was found on him.
He has disappointed and embarrassed his team and Grenadians in general whether they reside in Grenada or not. If some of them do not feel this way, they should. He is their fellowman.
Dominica does not manufacture ammunition. Who gave it to him or sold it to him? How much and for what reason? Why did he have it in his possession and where or on whom he planned to use it? These questions must be asked and answered. I hope he does not remain mom when asked relevant questions. Officers, tet it out of him. Otherwise, keep him as long as it takes for him to spill the beans, so-to-speak.

The guy was going to pick up his kid. Quit chastising the guy. A guy was coming to Dominica with 59 rounds of a of fire power and the government never even told us what transpired other than he was coming to pick up his kid. Today Charles Saverin is enjoying royalty treatment.

      @Big bite:

I can just picture you in my mind saying those words out loud.

There’s a big difference between the pronunciation of the words ‘are’ and ‘a’ you know. You should probably take a little time out to learn the difference before you post comments on blogs.

This is constructive criticism, nothing personal.

SAD GRENADIAN. Iwas looking forward to going to support my fellow countryman in the stadium i just can’t understand it. I cannot believe Fletch was so silly. I am sure there is more to this story. Although i said sad Grenadian until you know the facts you can’t condemn therefore i take that back. Hold your head up high and represent your country. PLEASE DO NOT JUDGE HIM.

      May 28, 2015

You People don’t take your time to read! The article says Windward Island cricketer not West Indies Cricketer so he was not scheduled to play in the upcoming game in the stadium. Anyway hope this does not ruin his career for good.

      May 29, 2015

Brenda John?….what do you mean when you say “DO NOT JUDG HIM”?? We a commenting to the issue at hand. when we recieve a different story or more info about the case we will comment differentil. as of now he cam into the country with ammunition so he is the issuet. immagine a DA MAN doing that in GRENADA .we DOMINICANS would have so much to say about him that GRENADA would have him marked for death.

What’s with that Dominican nonsense of “holding your head up high”? You are abetting illegal behavior. If we can’t condemn him for being armed at an international airport, then we must condemn his stupidity.

      • Francisco Telemaque
        May 29, 2015

Warrington keep in min d, “Dominica do not, does not” have an International Airport, and never will get one as long as Skerrit is Prime Minister of Dominica, or as long as there is a bunch of idiots calling themselves Labor Party in Dominica okay!

I do not care about the rest of your comments; however, I iterate, and reiterate Dominica, as in the Commonwealth Of Dominica do not have an International Airport, it does not exists in Dominica, The name change by Skerrit, was to coincide with the opening of Argyle International in St. Vincent, Skerrit is making a fool out of some of you into believing that Melville Airport is an International Airport.

Then again it could be an International designed and built to accommodate LIAT only you see, I doh know eh!

        Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah! “Alas: Poor Dominica.”

Let’s see what will be the outcome, since Grenada is a member of CARICOM, and just as the Jamaican dirt bag had the right to sue, after he violated the immigration laws, the government and Skerrit paid him for breaking the nation laws.

I hope that will be a precedence for this guy to sue for not having a gun in his possession, but rather ammunition in the amount of fifty rounds, which I suppose could be bought on the island if ammunitions are sold in Dominica.

    • The Facts
      May 28, 2015

I am a fair person. I give compliment where it is due. No matter whom, if it is not due, I do not give it.
The government and Skerrit paid him? To my knowledge, this has not yet been revealed. Are they hiding something from D/cans? I hope not. D/cans should know about it and the amount paid to that man who, yes, broke our D/can Laws and was bold enough to disobey the Law by refusing to return to the jet when he was ordered to do so. I have stated and will continue to state, that man does not deserve a cent.
Telemaque, this is serious and not to be taken as a joke and leniently. He did not have a permit for having and transporting ammunition. So, what did he plan to do with it or who would have been the receiver? D/cans need to know this.

Francisco Telemaqcue are you listening to your self? Or are so consumed with hatred of Skerrtit and his government that you will look for any and every opportunity to be a negative commentator about developments in Dominica? You need a license to possess a firearm and ammunition, even if its a spent shell of an amo. The only authority to grant that license is the Commissioner of Police. the article did not say that the commissioner gave such a license to a visitor here in Dominica practicing for a cricket tournament that is coming up. My conclusion, in the absence of the facts is that he was not in possession of the requisite license to possess such amununition. So what should the authorities do? Ammunitions are not sold over the counter in Dominica Mr. telemacque. You need to be a holder of a firearms license before you can purchase the related ammunition form an authorized dealer. The report does not say Mr. Fletcher had such a license.

        May 29, 2015

Do not talk any nonsense to me: I was not born yesterday. License to own fire arms in Dominica existed long before I was born, so don’t treat me as an idiot talking crap about hate, who the hell I hate, you whom I do not know?

Do you believe because I critique Skerrit I hate him, if you believe that you are a confounded fool! Can you deny that a Jamaican, entered Dominica, violated the immigration, and naturalization rules of the country, and was deported by the government, the Immigration declares him Persona Non Grata.

The man goes back to Jamaica and sued Dominica government, and the Prime Minister Of Dominica, said according to the rules of CARICOM he has no alternative, he cannot do anything except settle out of court; pay him money after he broke the law of the country. That is the issue to deal with and not focus on me with you senseless crap, which does not worth dignifying!

i don’t believe that this is the same Francisco Telemaque ^^. The real FT wouldn’t write this nonsense.

      • Francisco Telemaque
        May 29, 2015

        What nonsense?

Grenada is a member of CARICOM, the man is from Grenada, I said let’s see if he also is going to sue government because he was arrested. The Jamaican who defy the Immigration rules, and was deported, Skerrit said he was powerless to do anything except settle out of court.

He paid the guy money because his government deported the Jamaican. My view is simply this, what is good for the Jamaican, is also good for the Grenadian. Since a precedence is already set, whereas any criminal from a member island of CARICOM can go to Dominica and usurp power of the government of the country.

Skerrit advised the nation to get acquainted to the rules of CARICOM which compels him to pay money to CRICOM criminals who violate Dominica laws. That is the issue!

      May 29, 2015

Jamaican dirt bag?? So you think you are better than this Jamaican or any other Jamaican for that matter? Tommy Lee did not violate any immigration laws. And certainly he was not armed with any ammunitions as reported about Fletcher.

      • Francisco Telemaque
        May 29, 2015

If he did not violate any laws of Dominica, tell us why he was detained by immigration, and deported by the government! You kick everybody in Dominica, in your effort to defend him, because he is capable of mesmerizing your week mind with his satanic songs.

Keep dancing, that’s what life is about for you

Guess he did not expect to be searched upon entry as an athlete. His issues must be deep to be traveling with 50 rounds of ammunition. Send him up to Stockfarm along with the convicted rapists and murders. We have enough of our own issues to deal with on the island.

    • Titiwi
      May 28, 2015

Read the report Anthony. It says hew was arrested when he was leaving the island, implying that he somehow obtained the ammo in Dominica and tried to take it out with him. Someone’s head must roll

I thought the same. A person of his caliber, he thought he would have escaped without being searched. He was rather presumptuous. Let us compliment the officer who caught him with the ammunition. He/she deserves a citation.
