Calypsonian, Ghetto Prince, will not be performing at the calypso final this evening.

It has been confirmed that he was taken to hospital for emergency surgery early Saturday morning.

The cause of his illness is unknown.

The Dominica Calypso Association (DCA) met this morning to discuss the matter

It was being speculated that Soul Puss might be replacing Ghetto Prince but following a meeting of DCA officials this morning, it was decided that nine calypsonians would compete in the final.

Soul Puss had indicated earlier that he was ready to perform when the matter was finalized. “I am practically ready,” he said. “I know it is short notice but a calypsonian should be ready for anything during the season.”

He said his costume was being prepared and his second song “is in line.”

“I will be having my final practice with the All Star Band since they are more familiar with my song,” he said.

However, Vice President of the DCA, Davidson “Observer” Victor said the association was more concerned with putting things in place to ensure a smooth, good quality final than seeking a replacement for Ghetto Prince and so decided to proceed with nine competitors.
