Next year 2014, if it is God’s will we will be sriving for 1st place. Many thanks to the parents and students who devoted thier time, special special thanks to Miss Pierre for your talent and time, keep up the good works. CONGRATS AGAIN!
congrats roseau primary… big up charlan king of the parade
For many years I observed the slow death of costume bands and the rise of t-shirt bands because there was nothing to excite young people into purchasing costumes. Then a few young persons step forward to cater to there peers and we saw the introduction of bands like Go Girls and Mercury. Year after year I have seen the numbers in these bands grow which shows more young persons are investing in carnival and purchasing costumes over t-shirts despite rising cost. Bands like Mercury are bring back young people and therefore ensuring carnival costume bands have a future. However regardless of their efforts the best they are awarded is second place. I commend the work done by Thunderbirds and Carnival Corner and they deserve their accolades over the years. This year however I observed Mercury was head and shoulders above the rest but it seems the old guard of judges have difficulty awarding them the Band of the Year award. Is the goal to discourage these young people and ensure the death of Mas Dominique? I think not but that is surely what will happen if we keep up this judging fiasco. Good work Mercury, I am looking forward to next year’s contribution and may even consider being part of your numbers.
Well said. I don’t see how Thunderbirds won over Mercury! Something is definitely wrong with the judging.
Its over, lets make it better and greater in 2014.God bless and am looking forward to next year.
Good Job Castle Bruce Secondary.. I really liked the costumes
Every year these old ancient judges want to give thunderbirds best costume!!! Get over it!!! This was definitely not fair this year. And these people work so hard to make mercury costumes beautiful, different and up to the times, so that more and more young people and tourists can be intrigued and join. And every year this DFC judges give them a big slap in their face. Let Mercury decide to boycott next year.. stay with allu dead and gone thunder birds. See how much better carnival will be!!
St.Martin Primary School. You deserve your winnings!
Where are the pics man…
Why are trying to kill the carnival?
Who are those judges? Please publish their names, I would like to know how carnival corner could eclipse any of the grandbay bands.
GrandBay shut their mouth, next time come bigger and better.
The bands should know who will be judging!!!!!!
thunderbirds costumes are original and not imported. next year will be greater.
Mercury costumes are all built in Dominica also. They are not imported. So if that is the reason for Thunder Birds winning it is weak and unfair
Something is missing what a bout sweetest band on the road
Those big exposed breast are not part of the costume. If they were Mercury would win first, second and third.
congratulation to the goodwill secondary school strive for first place next year to the devoted teachers and students who show intrest in making goodwill school what it is well done guys keep up the good work
This is why our carnival is not improving at all when mercury band work so had to at least put a costume band on the road i don’t think the judges look at mercury on the road. carnival organizing committee please inform other groups that you all are only judging carnival corner with the same boring boring outfits year after year shame shame that’s why everybody will leave and go Trinidad in spite of the coast to much cheating in this country for nothing
How carnival corner reach in your story there na? Thunderbirds that win!
Come on judges. I was at the parade. Please give me a break. Which part of Carnival Corner was
better than the 2 Sensay groups from Grand Bay. Talking of colour and display. You know what, KEEP ALLYOU CARNIVAL IN ROSEAU WE WILL KEEP OUR OWN IN GRAND BAY. Our costumes are original and creative, Your winners must be more creative with the same boring Christmas Decoration carnival costume they call sensay
LOL – you all did not have enough exposed flesh
I guess so. You are so right

I must say that the Carnival this year was nice and peaceful.
Congratulations to the winners of the various competitions through out the carnival season.
I enjoyed myself and look forward to the next carnival.
But from my humble opinion there is lots of improvement to be made especially in Roseau.
1) These gutters smell and they smell real bad. This is the economic and tourist center of Dominica and I cannot see how in that time and age some major engineering has not been done to curb that issue. This is a major shame for visitors and locals to be taking in that stench. Shame on the people responsible.
2) In this time and age pot-a-potties ought to be placed around Roseau during carnival. It was disgraceful to see women having to be dodging behind cars and dark corners to relieve themselves. Men alike. Big shame that.
3) For a country trying hard to attract tourism; I was totally shocked that a tourist boat was in town yesterday and businesses closed. Sunday or not, places that cater to tourist ought to remain open to cater to tourist especially when a tourist ship is in town. You guys dropping the ball here.
4) Roseau is too congested. Too many little roads for too many vehicles. A car park ought to be built over the river for example and let people that work in Roseau walk into Roseau leaving the little roads less congested. Every where in the town is within five minutes walking distance.
5) Too many derelict vehicles parked on the side of those small roads. Some of these vehicles so old that trees growing in them but they are taking up major space on these small roads posing a major threat to motorists and pedestrians alike. I am surprised that the folks responsible have not taken some major steps to address this issue. I do not get that one at all.
6) Also too many stray dogs. All where you pass is end less gatay-wass all over the place.
Saying all this, home is home. I just wanna see improvements in the place…
I agree with the Pot a Potties comments. I was in Barbados some time ago during their Crop Over and somewhere in the middle and end of the costume bands, a flat bed truck carried about 6 to 8 pot a potties that the people used to relieve themselves. We need to upgrade indeed
7. Get rid of the paros that all up in your face and eating from the garbage bins.
We need proper sidewalks and get rid of all those broken down buildings in town also all the business owners who ‘been operating in the same old ugly building these places are begging for a face lift.roseau looks like an old village
I always maintain, it’s just a bigger village
Agreed with your entire comment ‘A Voice’ hope someone in authority , the Minister of Culture, all stakeholders involve in carnival and Tourisim, the Mayor of Roseau and the Prime Minister read your comment.
Job well done for the title Queen of the Band: Afrikulture Stilt Walkers – “Feenix Fyah”
carnival corner deserve to win didnt u see how they shined in the sunlight
Mercury deserves first prize. A set of old people judging and living in the past. When when when.
one thing if is not carnival corner is thunder birds that getting first prize every year with dem boring costume they does hv there…i mean c’mon…who r the judges of this…..they can never give mercury or go girls their first prize they deserve….stupssssssssssssssssssss
why is it that mercury never gets first place? these people were so cute>>>>>>>
yes I know we were cute and sexy. But really we only came for the rum and the party!Majority of the people in that band was intoxicated we just couldnt follow instructions like we in the army. I enjoyed myself to the max It was a great carnival celebration this year.
Yessssss!!!! Go team Carib. These guys are marketing kings. Congrats to Geoff and his team.
Carib Beer de Beer we like to drink.
