Eight young ladies from the Convent Preparatory School have promised to put on a show of excellence at the Miss Convent Prep Pageant on Thursday 7th February, 2012.
The show is expected to take place on the school grounds.
Dominica News Online interviewed each contestant separately to find out the reason for their decision to participate in the pageant.
“I want to be able to experience what a show is like,” said 9-year-old Najah Coipel.
10-year-old Kimberly Lawrence said that she wants to display her talents.
Grade 5 student, Megan Francis, indicated she that she is participating in the show because she wants to make her parents and her sister, who is a winner of other pageants, proud
Another contestant, Che Joseph, explained that, “I love the stage and I am not afraid of anything”, as her reason for participating.
“I want girls my age to experience things that are nice and see things that they can do” was 10-year-old Cassie Simeon’s reason for contesting the crown.
8-year-old Alyssa Letang noted that she wanted to follow her mother’s footsteps, who is a former Carnival queen, and win a pageant.
Contestant Sophia Christian said, “I think this is my time to shine and it’s time everyone see my true talents”.
Kernissa Robinson added that the show is a great opportunity to show people what she is capable of.
Teacher, Amanda Dejean, said the show is held every two years and is a way of allowing the school to participate in the Real Mas’ celebrations and to develop its students holistically.
“We feel at Convent Prep that we need the students to be well developed students because they are the future of tomorrow and we feel that if we have them in activities that help develop a love for culture, a love for self, love for performing then we have a brilliant future ahead of us,” she said.
The contestants were chosen after going through an elimination interview process.
“We had about 25 girls who were interested in going up for Miss Convent Prep and we had a short interview with them asking them why they were interested in going up for the show and what benefit it would be to them and based on that we had a group meeting and picked the top eight out of the twenty-five,” Dejean said.
She added that usually a total of seven girls is selected, however, the number was increased because of the large number of applicants.
She indicated that the show will be similar to that of the national Carnival Princess Show and the winner will go on to represent Convent Prep at the 2014 Carnival Princess show.
The girls will appear in introductory dance, speech, talent, creative wear and party dress segments.
Brier Evans is the reigning Miss Convent Prep. She is currently a first form student at the Convent High School.

CONGRATS TO ALL THE YOUNG LADIES. I COMMEND YOU FOR YOUR BRAVERY AND WISH YOU WELL AS YOU PROMOTE YOUR CULTURE. ALL THE BEST TO ALL OF YOU
We, as Dominicans, talk about raising the age of consent, yet we continue to over sexualize our young children. Why do we need all of these pageants and why so young? Can’t we celebrate their other achievements instead of “introductory dance, speech, talent, creative wear and party dress segments”? WAKE UP DOMINICA, IT’S 2013 – LET’S DO AWAY WITH THIS NONSENSE!!!!!!
I agree!!
You’ve never been to a princess show, have you?
Yes I have – and my comment stands.
@fed up – it looks like you are fed up of yourself.
No I’m fed up of idiots like you!
Is NOT a Passa Passa show they tell you. Its Young Ladies demonstrating their skills and talent, showing bravery and ambition to face the audience/world at this tender age. Be positive and support the youths.
Well done and good luck Girls. Please enjoy.
I agree 100%
Enough is enough of all theese pageants and a whole bunch of calypsonians and the younger ones are right behind.
Why don’t they have Essay competitions or Math instead
i agree with u and they do have math and eassays..but having math and essay competitions only with make them dull boys and girls..they got to have fun also…work + play
i want to know which young person will enter in that type of show these days you ave to force a child to write one paragraph is a essay they would write instead young tell them stop listening stop stupied music like triple k,lil wanye nicki minaj n them other non sense u saying about essay get a life yea!!!!!
Your comments stands because your are a very STUPID and NARROW MINDED person
All the best to Alyssa
