The Madams and Ti Madams of Madame Wob Dwiyet Canada Inc. (MWDC) recently thrilled the public with dynamic booths and colourful wob dwiyet displays, at three major summer events in the Greater Toronto area, in their quest to promote Dominica’s culture to the Canadian public.
MWDC Inc. is a cultural organization committed to showcasing the national dress of the Commonwealth of Dominica, the “wob dwiyet”.
The group debuted their Madame Wob Dwiyet booth at the Durham Caribbean Festival, and participated in the Durham Diversity World Parade of Fashions at the Pickering Mall. The appreciative audiences were charmed by the cute Ti Madams (little girls) who confidently carried their wobs, and by the sassy sashaying of the Madams.
MWDC continued its mission of cultural promotion, at the official launch of the 2014 Scotia Caribbean Carnival. This Festival is Toronto’s largest Caribbean culture themed event and attracts over a million tourists annually, during the last week in July and first weekend in August.
At the launch held at Nathan Phillips Square downtown Toronto, the ladies distributed promotional brochures and materials about Dominica, and extolled the virtues of the Nature Isle to the members of the public who stopped to admire the attractive wear.
Recently a team of representatives of MWDC including 2013 Madame Wob Dwiyet Canada Kanika Ambrose, appeared on the local access Rogers T.V program, Daytime Toronto, to introduce the Canadian public to Dominica’s national dress, and culture.
The 2014 Madame Wob Dwiyet Canada Cultural Pageant will take place on September 28th at the Sts. Peter and Paul Banquet Hall at 231 Milner Ave, Scarborough. This year’s theme is “Mas Domnik” promoting Dominica’s carnival traditions.
what kind of culture queen does that
Oh dear, what a mess! These non-traditional, poor excuses and bastardization of our beloved Wob Dwiyet must have Cissy Caudeiron, Irenie Peltier & Boboy turning in their graves at this gros injustice which was done to our cultural wear. Those responsible ought to consult the likes of Marvlyn and Pearl Christian, Mrs. Guye, et al to find out what a true Wob Dwiyet looks like and how it is supposed to be worn. Since when does the mouchwen have to be in the same material as the wob???
I suggest those behind this mispresentation of our beloved Wob Dwiyet do their research and keep in mind that Dominica’s culture is unique & is not to be confused with that of Martinique, Guadeloupe or any other.
By the way, we are used to quality productions from Toronto, something is very wrong here. Folks, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
I am very disturbed by your negative comment when in fact these ppl are simply advertising dominica far away from its shores and u are criticising negatively
Good ladies! Keep on doing what you are doing of behalf of our Dominica. You ladies are very beautiful! Blessings now.
I am now realizing that this is Caribbana season, have a great time. But I ain’t going there, nah!
