Curacao prime minister resigns

WILLEMSTAD, Curacao — With elections right around the corner, the prime minister of Curacao, Ivar Asjes, resigned on Monday. He will be succeeded as head of government by Dr Bernard Whiteman.

Asjes, the fourth and longest serving prime minister of autonomous Curacao, has not yet explained the reasons for his abrupt departure but he appeared to have lost the support of his governing coalition in parliament and his political party Pueblo Soberano (PS).

Some years ago, Asjes was voted out of power for, among other reasons, not opening certain parliamentary sessions to the public. There was a parliamentary revolt and he was voted out, but then only to be appointed as Curacao’s fourth prime minister.

History may have repeated itself, therefore, since his resignation may have been precipitated by a rebellion within the ruling parliamentary coalition.

This has led to some speculation as to whether Asjes will be on the general election ticket for his Pueblo Soberano party, or if it will move to replace him. Asjes was one of the elected officials from pre-autonomy (10-10-10) Curacao and he could run for re-election with or without Pueblo Soberano.

There is also a suggestion that Asjes is being considered as the next governor general of Curacao. CaribbeanNewsNow)

In wake of the storm which so badly destroyed Dominica, Skerrit needs to put country first and resign as PM, so that we could get assistance from the US and other countries that believe in the freedom of all citizens. In interim, I suggest Hon. Joshua Francis be made PM (Not because Lennox is not good but rather more Dominicans would rally behind Joshua at this time), with Hon. Doctor Darroux as deputy and minister of health, along with 7 more cabinet ministers like, Doc. Fontaine as finance minister, Roselyn Paul as community development, Bazil in agriculture, Baptist in planning and public works, Claudius Sandford in education and sports, Astaphan, the DFP leader as tourism minister and Ronald Charles as Legal Affairs. Off course the Ayatola would have to resign and be replaced by Elude Williams as president and the speaker replaced by the Ms. Royer, the PS in Health. Unless these changes are done we will have a had time coming back as a country

You are not the only one who has a story. Other people have a story to tell and it is not against the PM.
From reading your comments and the likes of you, you are biased. You have an opinion and belief that everyone’s opinion should be the same. Not so.
If you think the US will give more help under another government, a radical one, you are wrong. This is why I state other people have their opinion.
Do you not think that I could write Obama’s administration and state my views and why some of you people are at the throat and on the back of the PM? It is wickedness and vindictiveness.
God spared you from this devastating tropical storm. You should be grateful and project your gratitude. It should mellow you and not make you continue to be bitter, disrespectful and disdainful, among some words. Watch out next time.
