Dominican embroiled in port controversy in Antigua

Dominican, Darwin Telemaque, is at the centre of a port controversy in Antigua.

Telemaque, who is the manager of the Antigua Port Authority, was allegedly involved in a physical altercation with an employee by the name of Armin Henry on Friday 1st June.

The port worker claims that Telemaque attempted to physically remove him from the port and responded by filing a police report on Telemaque. It is alleged that Telemaque accused him of riling up the port workers towards strike action.

Telemaque would not comment directly on the incident citing that it was now a Human Resource/Union matter and a police report had been filed. However, he did quote the Antigua Port Authority act which states, “Any authorised employee who has been given authority under the provisions of this Act or any regulations made thereunder to maintain order upon any premises of the Authority, or in any harbour, ship or vehicle used by or for the purposes of the Authority, shall, in the performance of such duty have all the powers, rights, privileges, and protection of a member of the Police Force.”

Following the incident, 35 port workers reportedly marched off to Antiguan Prime Minister Gaston Browne’s office to air their grievances concerning back pay owed to them.

In response, the Prime Minister admonished the workers to follow the chain of command and indicated that a professional will be hired to oversee the establishment of a better relationship between the Port’s management and workers.

During Telemaque’s time as manager, the Antigua Port Authority has been voted best port in the Caribbean for the last two years by the Port Management Association of the Caribbean (PMAC).

When the Port shuts down over here and you see why the port workers are in protest, maybe you’ll count your blessings. And from his own mouth, his interests only takes him where the money is.

That is the effect of a non-caring, unqualified regime, the DLP – a brain drain that results in the losses of talent like Darwin Telemacque and others. I am 100 percent certain that Telemacque would have done a much better job than Bardouille after the storms. We have Dominicans who are CEOs in respected US and Canadian institutions, who are top professors in elite universities worldwide, and who are top athletes and entertainers on a global level. I’ll tell you what, if Labour gets another 5 years at the end of it, the average Dominican IQ will break all records for a new low – keep on electing ‘Labah’ still.

Guy you should know by now Dominica is a place; no natter how professionally skill an individual, no matter how educated you are, the only way one gets to use their professional and academic skills in Dominica is if they decide to become a political stool, a puppet to some so called politician in government!

The problem is this if you check the politicians background you will find they have nothing educationally to compare with those of us with our professional, and academic skills: But; they are in government put there by a the less educated, and a few educated who kiss up to them for their survival!

I can count on one hand a few Dominicans who have the means to invest in some industries in the country, but who refuse to return to even try, all because of government behavior.

      Remember Ron Abraham?

They stole Marpin from him, many of us learn from his experience.

Try to remember there is no “C” in the word Telemaque!

what i got from this story is the sad state of Dominica, the man had to leave Dominica to reach his full potential, in the mean time Dominica port is ? you fill in the blank. There seems to be no accountability or any higher expectations of people in positions to influence the direction and advancement of Dominica, no one gets fired or reasign just the same useless individuals running things for the past 25yrs plus. People gets the government they deserve and Dominica is a perfect example, everybody too busy begging or just too drunk to care while the government just help themselves.

Mr. Maya, your comments are brutally honest. Too many square pegs in round holes. People must be promoted meritoriously in order to get optimum productivity. Narrow, partisan politics is ruining every thing in the country. Every aspect of life in Dominica is contaminated by this fierce, tribal politics. Too many intelligent and capable nationals are sidelined because of their political affiliation or their non-affiliation with politics. I will like to see the day when the best and most capable person is given the promotion and position he richly deserves and not because of the political color he touts. Give fairness a chance to reign and see how the country soars.

Gaston Brown for prime minister in Dominica. That is how a leader is supposed to act. This is a man that does not have insecurity issues. There is a chain of command and the PM does not have to get involved in every deba. Let the little brainless pm they have in Dominica learn. On a second note another Dominican doing great work in another land yet in Dominica the only person that can do anything is the almighty lord of lords, PM of PMs, mimister of everything, ultimate civil servant, PHd conqueror of the far east, embasasdor of embasadors, the king of conte, his mighty Skerrit.
Watch those puppets come say why does this have to be about Skerrit. Well in case you guys ask any reason i get to show how much we have idiots running our place i will until they are gone.

The hatred spewed by you Blue Pinez towards Skerrit only serves each day to underscore how desperate your United Worthless Party has become. Instead of studying skerrit and trying to attach him personally to every story on DNO, tell us about your worthless leader. Is he done living it up in the USA and taking pictures? Or has he returned like the prodigal son to lead you and the other lost sheep?

it is amazing how you are incapable of dealing with issues (THE TRUTH). You are so full of hatred and when the truth hits you like a blunt object you become so verbally violent . For once please take a messenger stop attacking the messengers of truth. We have enough of your hatred. Stop before it kills you. The truth is our Prime Minister has done and is doing a horrible job. Dominica is in t he PITS. We are experiencing it – you may have a false sense of development but there are those of us who knows t he truth. Enough with your hatred.

Sue, can’t you read into your comments and discover that you are a simple fool!

Each time anybody speaks the truth where it remotely pertains to Roosevelt Skerrit, ignorant people like you take pleasure in branding them haters!

Can’t you see that you are ignorant!

Roosevelt Skerrit way of running Dominica is an obstacle in the way of progress, and idiots like you keep voting that guy back into power only to keep you down; and taking the country backwards! Last week that man told you all: All he need to do is level some land, and place two metal  cargo contains on the land and call it a terminal, and International Airport, and planes will come and land, and idiots like you believe him.

I am here to tell you that cannot happen, and will never happen; and if Roosevelt himself wish prove me wrong, tell him to prove me wrong the day his first international flight arrives!

The only ignorant idiot here is you Francisco Ettiene Dodds. Let me break it down for you and Mike Mya and the other lost sheep. The article above speaks to a Dominican Professional in Antigua who had a dispute of sorts with his staff. Re read the article and come back to the comment section and see how ridiculous you people sound. What next is Skerrit that make him do it eh? Because skerrit incompetent according to you? This is why Darwain had the altercation with his staff? You people are insane. UWP can NEVER win another election in Dominica with this daft attitude.

That’s how low key and lack in some level of intellectual some of these Skerrites have became. The morale of a true story like this they have no knowledge nor experience of analysis, all they see in their faces is a corrupt Labour government and inept and failed PM fanning their ignorance.
Sue, please do yourself and your family and Dominicans a favour, get the hell out of the company and this blind allegiance to this corrupt Labour regime and it`s inexperience failed Prime Minister. They are terrible, their authority is questionable and they have failed you and I, all Dominicans and Dominica our love isle of beauty and splendour big time.
Sue, wake up and help save Domininca from this failed and corrupt Labour government.

Sue a fool only understand their own thoughts; you are not capable of understanding anything you read or hear!

Don’t try to break down anything to me; because my brain is not able to process hogwash!

If Dominica was a place where there were employment opportunities, Darwin, and others would perhaps be in Dominica using their skills in the development Dominica.

There  is nothing you can tell me about Antigua that I do not know; all of my children are born in Antigua okay! I once owned and operated an electronic business, on Kentish Road, along with a shipping business in Antigua, I was married to an Antiguan!

There are lots of people like myself who have enough money to invest into some kind of business in Dominica, which perhaps could provide you with a job. We are not returning to invest in a place where corrupted politicians demand bribes from people for them to set up and operate a business.

I understand the issue better than you do!

I would come and spread through whole dominica and i would give you the biggest hug. I would give all labourites so finally you and the rest of the puppets will come to some senses.
