The Waitukubuli National Trail Project Management Unit will be launching its “FRIENDS OF WAITUKUBULI MOBILISATION DRIVE” on August 4, 2011 at the Anchorage Hotel from 2:30 p.m. with the first of a series of seminars.
This seminar targets stakeholders in the tourism industry through the Dominica Hotel and Tourism Association (DHTA), the Waitukubuli Tour Guides Association, the Dominica Community Tourism Association and the Combine Taxi/Tour Association.
The objective of the ‘FRIENDS OF WAITUKUBULI MOBILISATION DRIVE’ is to initiate the process towards establishment of a support network system for the Waitukubuli National Trail, to obtain commitment of stakeholders and communities to support trail operation, management and maintenance and to make recommendations to inform the way forward beyond the project life.
The Project Management Unit also continues its efforts at community capacity building for provision of support services and business development along the trail.
A community empowerment programme in Agro-Tourism commences today, August 3, 2011, in Marigot, targeting stakeholders along Segment 7 (Hatten Garden to First Camp) which traverses a number of active and abandoned farms.
Meanwhile, a training programme in tourism related fields targeting communities along the trail in the south/southwest is ongoing and is being implemented in partnership with the Adult Education Division.
