Information Minister Ambrose George has endorsed the newly established Dominica Public Service Union (DPSU) retirees section as a model of innovation in the face of regional and international challenges.
George said the launch of the initiative Wednesday morning comes at a time when Dominica is faced with challenges of an aging population, “particularly in the farming and fishing sectors, potential labor shortages due to migration from rural areas and the need to ensure our social security scheme is sustainable”.
The retirees section adds to the nurses and youth sections that the Public Service Union has already established.
The union has been told the venture shows it is recognizing the role and contribution of retired public officers in the community.
“In your quest to offer more service and benefits to your membership, amidst all the global challenges, you have found it necessary to adopt this new approach of inclusion by catering for the retirees section,” George said as he commended the DPSU.
DPSU president Steve Joseph said the venture will help to highlight the wealth of experience and “wisdom” of retirees, and that the union is looking forward to representing their interests.
Great venture DPSU. Let us continue to include and engage our retires to the maximum.
Excellent initiative DPSU. Thanks for the support Ambrose of an excellent idea.
