Kelvar Darroux wants housing program defended

Kelvar Darroux said the housing program has touched the lives of many Dominicans

Parliamentary Representative for St. Joseph, Kelvar Darroux, wants beneficiaries of government’s housing program to speak out in its defense when it is being attacked by critics.

Darroux was speaking at a ceremony of the St. Joseph Village Council and Venezuelan embassy in St. Joseph last week.

“When you hear all of this criticism leveled at the housing program, you have to speak out because you can see the impact that it has had, even right here in St. Joseph,” he said.

According to Darroux, ‘when something is good, one must appreciate it.’

“When something is good you have to say that it is good, and the reality is that everybody will not be able to benefit at the same time … but as we continue to make the resources available, we will see more and more people across the country benefiting from that program,” he said. “We have seen the evolution of the housing program, and this is a program that has touched every single community across this country. This is a program where we have seen families of five, six, being empowered to own their own homes and this program will continue to touch the lives of Dominicans near and far.”

He stated that the government is one that “understands the need for our people in this 21st century to have their own homes, to be able to go to their washrooms. Because as you are aware, there are many homes where there are still no washrooms.”

Speaking at the same function Venezeuala’s ambassador to Dominica, Hayden Pirela, revealed that his country will be assisting Dominica to repair roads caused by heavy rains on Christmas Eve.

“The Venezuelans are here to help countries that need the help,” he noted. “We are working towards the situation because we know that you all suffered a lot of rain during the Christmas season and the roads are in a bad condition because of the water, so we want to help with rehabilitation of the roads in Dominica.”

Pierela also pointed out that Venezuela is only trying to assist countries that need help and is not trying to invade.

“While other countries go on and try to invade other countries, we come here to help,” he said.

Do you notice how wicked and narrow-minded you are? Of course, you will not notice your evil ways. Because you are not a supporter of DLP you oppose the housing project which Kelvar is trying to establish in St. Joseph?
If it were UWP you would support him. Surely, DNO should know this. You guys lack love and consideration. You do not even want what is good for others. Shame on you!
Let me inform you further. I have relatives who were born in St. Joseph. Some passed away and some others reside out of the country. A few still reside in St. Joseph. I am not insinuating that they are in need of this housing project.
I have spent some school holidays in St. Joseph. I would always visit there after I left school and when I visit D/ca. Prior to my leaving for Canada, I visited my relatives. St. Joseph is one of the Number One places I am sure to visit. Therefore I have roots in St. Joseph. This village is very dear to my heart.
I do not know everyone in St. Joseph but I will not listen to you wicked people and read your garbage as you hit on the good Kelvar is doing for St. Joseph. In his position, he has a right to do so.
I am informing you wicked people, you get me angry. Your ignorance is showing. May God rebuke all of you who wickedly do not support a better life for those people who are in need of. You are not nice people; not godly and not Christian-like. I hope you are not a practicing Christian for you are not living up to what Our Lord Jesus Christ taught us. He will punish you.
As Christians, everyone should know what Our Lord has taught and expects of us if we hope to live a happy and peaceful life and to be happier with him in Heaven for all eternity.
As God knows you, your attitude and wickedness, woe to you! Your day is coming. God rewards the good and punishes the wicked.
If I owned/managed this Website, all that stupidity which some of you write would never be posted for they serve no useful purpose. You devalue this Website. Your comments are not educating and by no means constructive criticisms, the meaning and practice of which you know nothing about and are ignorant of. You have much to learn.

Do not make me laugh. You are joking. I suppose you want to know what we have to say about that. You should know for there was no Rastafari in those days. This was created by a few radicals, man-made who once recognized God, believed in him and worshipped him.
Today due to a lawless and free life with no obligations, wanting to live as you so wish, you have renounced God.
Too bad for you. The day will come when you will regret your words. I hope it will not be for all eternity.

Massacre all that talk is a load bull …… Tell me this why are the FOREIGNERS coming here and doing so good on the same land ? …… the very same land the LOCAL farmers are moving away from. All you keep saying is the Government killing farmers …. okay tell me in what is that being done ? ….. what should be done to make it better for ? …… You lazy people keep letting people to you the wrong stuff. Here is what is happening …….. Inputs are better and more ready available to farmers at NO cost and some at LOW cost ……….. The AID BANK has funds for farmers at the LOWEST interest rates and some at ZERO interest ………….. Livestock for the farmers, a state of the art ABATTOIR(slaughterhouse)….. that means Pigs, Chicken, Goats, Rabbits, Cows and lots more. How of you are taking advantage ? ……. Do you know the amount of money is there to make from that ? Do you know what is Dominica import bill on chicken only ? ….. can someone say $80M a year. Now tell me why are THE FOREIGNERS working the same land and most don’t have the advantage of the above programs making a good life for themselves and is able to send money back home to love ones and family ? …. yes ask western union and moneygram. They are buy and building homes, buying and running bus services and also sending for family. WHY can’t the LOCAL do the same and the LOCAL have less expense.

Why would Dominicans not defend this housing program? I endorse that D/cans should wholeheartedly support it.
St. Joseph Representative, Kelvar Darroux made an excellent point. Not much could be added to his views.
Those who benefit from this housing program, wherever they reside in D/ca should come out in full force and defend it.
A country is in need of a housing program to assist the underprivileged and provide some means of comfort for them. Dominica did not have this privilege in previous years. Today it has it and should be commended for it.
Consider too, we cannot foresee the future. Those who oppose it, your very children and grandchildren and who knows, yourselves, may one day be recipients of this housing program.
Please cease your critic and support what is good and beneficial and is assisting those who are in dire need of to obtain housing.
Keep in mind the words of Our Lord Jesus Christ: “…For I was homeless and you gave me shelter…”
God bless those who are making an effort, through whatever means, financial and others to assist those Dominicans who are in need of in whatever manner.
Housing is an excellent one which provides shelter for the homeless, for those who are unemployed, the handicapped, the elderly, all those who are residing in sub-standard housing, who cannot afford to pay rent and who will enjoy a comfortable home with its amenities. You deserve it too.
By providing this comfort for them, you are contributing to their happiness and peace of mind.
This is what it means by helping neighbors who are in need of, those who cannot help themselves. As you do, God is blessing you from above. Good deeds do not go unseen and unrewarded by our God.

What is your problem? Every country has housing projects. What is wrong that D/ca should not have them? This is progress to a certain extent, to do away with those little one and two-room houses with no toilets which are a sore sight, to visitors and tourists alike.
Not having a toilet in the home is unsanitary. You critics and hypocrites may have been brought up in a similar one and even born there.
The height of stupidity which you are. I bet that some of you who oppose him, his Party and what he is trying to do to elevate the lives and status of these people are the ones and your family who will benefit from this housing project.
You may also have friends who will reside in them and who you will visit. This project will beautify the village.

Didn’t this same government build homes with no wash-rooms? Mr Darroux, what was the reason for that? Was it cost effective?

What is the point in doing something if its not going to be done properly?

Well then again, I suppose had you all built ‘proper’ homes for people then, you’d not have that new campaign strategy ‘latrine eradication’.

I am all for proper sanitation etc.. but my god, why did you all build homes for people with no wash-rooms before and now you all passing and putting the toilet and calling it ‘war on latrines’?

.Venture Capital Fund at the AID Bank: Most of the funds were earmarked for assisting small business development or expand existing businesses. It eventually turned out that a high ranking member of the UWP government used his influence to have set aside significant sums of money from that facility to raise capital financing or his private business.

His marketing plan featured only government owned projects to justify going into that particular business enterprise. The ordinary entrepreneur, desperately seeking some breathing space to “think, rethink and renew” his business enterprise, was never in for consideration. Is that a situation where “not all applications will qualify”?

Let’s Talk Corruption …… Real and Documented Corruption. Read the following and get back to me

Wotten Waven Trafalgar Link Road: Under that project a foreign owned company was contracted without any public tender to build the road at a cost of about 6 million dollars. The company in turn, sub-contracted the project to Dominica’s Public Works for just about two million dollars. It is reported that an advance payment amounting to 0.75 of a million dollars or thereabout was paid to the Public Works upon signing of the sub-contract.

General election was called. The blues lost. The cheque bounced and the company simultaneously, disappeared into thin air. Their explanation was that the foreign company sublet only the labor component to the Public Works. Materials, supplies and equipment remained with the main contractor. But why the disappearing act soon after elections?

Unpaid Government Cheques and Un-paid Social Security Deductions: The records will show that when the 1995-2000 government was physically catapulted out of office, by the electorate, there was a huge back log totaling millions of dollars in outstanding payments to the Social Security pension scheme. Left unchecked, this was not only a sure deaf knell for pensioner’s benefits, but it was a clear manifestation of how the administration was prepared to flaunt the laws of the land in total disrespect for the welfare of pensioners. Government had to correct this anomaly by exchanging certain fixed assets thus settling that long outstanding debt.

Some say it is upwards of ten millions dollars’ worth of cheques that could not be paid, and awaiting payment clearance at the treasury. So much for a period in our history where “money was meeting money”. I believe it was more “monthly social security deductions meeting many years of unpaid social security deductions” and “cheques for service providers was piling up on countless unpaid cheques for service providers”. They think we forgot.

This is 2014 and not 2000. The UWP of 2014 is not the UWP of 2000 and the DLP of today is certainly not the DLP we voted for in 2000 and that is exactly why we need CHANGE.
