Portsmouth community radio to benefit from UNESCO grant

possie vibrationThe United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) has, through the framework of its “International Programme for the Development of Communication” project on “Community Radio Engendering Community Cohesion and Development,” approved grant funding in the amount of US$ 20,000.00 to the Portsmouth Community Watch Foundation, towards its “Possie Vibrations Community Radio” project.

Contracts for the project were completed on signature of Unesco Representative and Project Coordinator Ashton Riviere on September 8th 2014.

Possie Vibrations’ 88.5FM, which has been on air for the past two years in the town of Portsmouth will seek to undertake activities under the project including :
• Procuring and instalment of broadcast equipment, Enhancement of its Broadcast and development of Production Studios and reception desk.
•Training of up to 25 individuals including 15 women in production and broadcast skills for radio, journalism, investigative journalism and news gathering, program production, broadcast skills journalism, investigative journalism and news gathering skills
•Training up to 6 individuals in Radio Station Management and Production to include Production Sound & music Policies and Procedures, News , Broadcast Journalism and Documentary Production .

The Project was written and submitted on behalf of the Portsmouth Community Watch Foundation and the Possie Vibrations Project by Ashton Riviere in consultation with Hara Padhy, ACI, UNESCO Kingston office.

    Ashton, this is very good news. We will soon meet with you to collaborate on some disaster related matters. Congrats to you, Possie Vibration and the Watch Foundation. Wish the best in the upcoming Town Council election, you are certainly one of the positiove community leaders who deserve not only to be a councillor but the Mayor of the Town of Portsmouth.
