Water projects for Pointe Michel, Scotts Head

PM Skerrit said Dominica is well on its way to achieving 100 percent access to potable water
PM Skerrit said Dominica is well on its way to achieving 100 percent access to potable water

Dominica’s goal of attaining 100 percent potable water is said to be well on its way as the Communities of Scotts head and Pointe Michel are next in line to receive major water projects.

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit made the announcement on Tuesday at the inauguration of the Pointe Mitchel Village Council.

“Dominica is well on its way to achieving 100 percent access to potable water in this country,” he stated. “On Thursday afternoon at four o’clock … the government will sign the contract for another water project for Savanne in Scotts Head totalling over $500,000.”

Skerrit revealed that this was one of the requests from the outgoing parliamentary representative for that community, Sam Martin, before the end of his tenure. He will be replaced by Ian Pinard.

Meantime the Country’s leader has also promised that Pointe Mitchel will receive a 30,000 water tank costing “hundreds of thousands of dollars” to expand the water project there.

Additionally 66 people in that area have been added to the National Employment Program (NEP), according to the prime minister.

“Sixty-six more people will be engaged in this constituency adding to our already 24 who have already been engaged under the NEP, taking the total to some 90 people who are employed under the NEP,” he stated.

They signed their contracts on Monday afternoon.

The prime minister also called for everyone to take care of the most vulnerable in society.

“Yes the roads are important, yes the water projects are important but we must pay particular attention to the human aspect of development, our people, the less fortunate, the vulnerable,” he stated. “And whatever we have to do together to ensure that every child is at school, the government is prepared to work with you to ensure that every single child in this village, who is of school age, is attending school.”

He also gave the assurance that a retaining wall from Green Valley to Siboulie will be done soon as funds have already been made available and the project is almost ready for tender.

Project project . Why don’t the pm worry about a proper health care system? Dominica needs a hospital. What happens to the people who can’t leave dominica to go else where if they have a health threatening condition? I live in the us and i ask god please do not let me get sick in da , while on a vac, cause i don’t know what will happen to me. It is so embarassing. I feel for my country.

    Prime Minister
I do not believe that this action deserves any fanfare as every part of Dominica should already haveportable water.

Instead of spending millions on the state edifice, the funds should have been allocated to providing all Dominicans with the most basic needs, that is running water and toilets.

You contributed millions to LIAT, wasted millions on night landing, yet Dominicans travelling from Engkand have been advised that fro.m 1st Novemberthere will no longer be same day flights to Dominica from the UK ,as LIAT iis curtailing it’s night time flights to Dominica.

Dominica is regressing and no amount of pre-election largesse can conceal that fact.

Well Pm you need to be honest with the people. We are very happy for the people of Savanne .However, the truth is the current Parl Rep never even once went to Dowasco to discuss about the water issue the people had. I remembered a gentlemen who is from Scott’s Head and live in Canada or the USA was the one who has been on the front burner for that project. I even understood the current Parl Rep sworn at him when the gentleman tried to talk to him. So PM we all know very well the current Parl Rep failed you and the people and that’s why Ian is back. Shame on both you and the current Parl Rep. You need to tell the people the truth. I wish I could remember the gentle man’s name who is always trying to help his people in the Scott’s Head area. I hope one day he will represent the people there.

Glad that you are able to expose the P M’s actions fior the election ploy that it is.

Sam was a token representative. He did not know how to ask permission to use the loo never mind to recommend projects for the constituency.

The P M is using his election gambit to reel in the selfish voters. I am surprised that he has not yet announced the construction of the hotel in Scott’s Head which Captain Sam of Sleepy Land requested!.

Skerritt and his DLP Cabal trying again and again to continue to FOOL the Dominican people.

They are expressing fear and desperation. Their works in efficiency, incompetence and bad governance, as well as downright neglect of the productive sectors of the economy, have caused havoc. The standards of living have declined, and unemployment increased to unbearable levels.

Govt. is surely responsible for the poor state of affairs and the crippling of the economy. Not the ordinary citizen. Corruption is swarming our land. Judicial Reviews stalling serious heinous cases re. criminal acts, from going through.

IPO Commission cannot interview or question PM on his assets declared to that IPO, set up to do just those things to prevent corruption and to verify what is declared to the IPO is true. AWA, PM above that questioning thing by the IPO.

A few are getting richer and richer. The majority are getting poorer and poorer. Injustice and inequality taking their toll.

No Electoral Reforms. No FREE and FAIR elections. No Voter ID Cards and cleaning the “dirty” Voters’ List, as requested by the Commission responsible for conducting elections. The Law gives the Commission the RIGHT to make reforms and be facilitated by Govt., to ensure FREE and FAIR elections.

No Multi-purpose Nation ID cards either, as Govt. put forward and forced the Electoral Commission to accept. All along, the intention was to stall Reforms to the Electoral Process. Don’t you know why my people?

Such works and behaviours can never set the Cabalist Free. So in the last two weeks, Skerritt has talked about and spread, $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$, projects, much moire than the past 14 years in Govt.

You can FOOL some of the people some times, but you just cannot FOOL all of the people, all of the time. How Long? Not Long !!!!!!

      Dominican UK

I hope that you will not through your toys from your roam when you you have to overnight in Barbados or Antigua, instead of sleeping in your Dominican bed the same day.

I wonder if you actually visit Doninica?
I doubt you would make such a misguided statement about the state of Dominica, if you were a regular visitor of the island.

Have you seen the state of the capital? Are you aware of the high level of unemployment? Have you visited the hospital? Have you tried to fly to Dominica? I could continue but…

Dominica needs a visionary and innovator to guide it out of the current quagmire. Dominica needs change as it is stagnating and even regressing.

DLP did not forget about Jeff Bellot’s contribution to the water project; it is just more convenient for them to redirect the kudos to Sam.

Sam knew as much about constituency/parliamentary business as I know about flying a plane, and they is nothing!

    Election is imminent!

Prime Minister, there is no need for those baiting projects for Scott’s Head and Point Mitchel as the selfish locals are not bothered about country but themselves. You already have their tainted votes.

I am surprised that Sam managed to rouse from his comatose and moribund state to make any requests on behalf of his constituency.

I do salute you PM as you are a master manipulator of vulnerable people.

I suppose you are one perfect person who has never committed a fault in your lifetime so far and will not in years to come. Such people do not reside on earth. Therefore, you are by far not perfect. Cease throwing words and stones at the PM. For what goes around comes around in time. Mark my words.

        The Facts

I am not infallible and I am certainly not perfect. But I am an honest, loyal, concerned and fair-minded person.

One should not be allowed to continue making mistakes for 14 years. The P M does not have the credentials to continue to govern our country. He has made some disastrous decisions during his tenure.

Dominica needs urgent change if I is to survive.

I am not throwing words at the P M but stating the facts.

By the way, youname is a misnomer as you would not recognise the Facts if it was shoved in your face!

But projects have continually been ongoing. Its just that certain people have fine tuned their political agendas to include shedding negative light on any government projects that take place in the 12 months leading up to election.

Had Skeritt done, during the last five years, what he is presently doing, their would be no need for him to campaign or working so hard to win the next general election. In resent times, the man has done more signings then the Layou river have titiwee. It was alleged, the man use to be out of Dominica no less then twenty times a month, these days the man must be the Minister of Home Affairs, he is always at home. The man has been to every village council inaugural meetings. They refer to the man as a young man, but the Deputy Prime Minister who is a senior citizen could not even get the opportunity to be the major speaker at the just concluded senior citizen grand meeting. Addressing young people is Skeritt, addressing village council meetings is Skeritt, the Red Clinic is Skeritt, water supply to villages is Skeritt, handing over of checks to village councils is Skeritt, the NEP program is Skeritt, contracts to village councils is Skeritt, election date is Skeritt, but the worsening of the economy is Mr. Lennox Linton and UWP Team Dominica.

From all of the comments that I have been reading with regards to various government projects I am almost prepared to conclude that Dominicans would rather that the government not deliver on any projects or services in the election year and just sit back idly and collect their salaries.

This is NONSENSE..We had 2 great project proposal for Pointe Michel that would not require any government funds and that was not even entertained. A project that would have provided great employment opportuity for many villagers and create a economy for future financial stability of the village. One of the proposals detailed the buried water sources in Pointe Michel that would benefit the village and the region. I have communication that can prove this. They dont have the klong term interest of Pointe Michel in mind but a promise so they can get votes. Its time for these crooked politicians to go. Pointe Michel was a powerhouse for agriculture and fisheries many years ago. I say to Pointe Michel, wake up dont vote for DLP but vote for future devlopment of Pointe Michel. Down with Skerritt
