I think that the celebration of one’s educational achievement at any level is important. Higher Education is not an entitlement and this young man’s story can inspire many to achieve their own goals or conceptualize the thought of achieving a higher education. I think that the young man has the potential to achieve even more, given the right motivation and encouragement.
Congratulations to you and your family for making this step forward in life.

    Subject: MY POST

Admin Happy New Year to you and your staff.
Now why are not posting my post. I am congratulating the young man on his achievements and you are not posting it.

This is the route I took – went to 2 year college first and I am member of PTK – Phi Theta Kappa – the Internationl Honor Society for Two year colleges.

One gets invited based on GPA so I am assuming that he was invited and inducted, thus me stating “he is my brother- fellow PTK member”.

Congratulations to the young man. Brush out the negative comments here, and look at the positive- some people will just never understand.
3.86 GPA – think that should be suma cum laude – the highest honor. Don’t understand why people have to be negative about the young man’s achievement. Just look at what happening to our young men in Dominica today – this is positive news – good news! Wish some other young men would emulate this guy, and I hope he pursue his education further with even great success.

In a case like that, I would refrain from negative, instead encourage the man. You never know the struggles the man went through to get what he got, and maybe that is why he is even more excited about his achievement.

    To: Mr. G:

Thanks for coming out from under your calabash…

Devry? Are you serious? Unless most people in DA don’t know what Devry is, let me tell them that it is a “buy-me-a-degree” school. Keller? Seriously…I did some consulting work for Devry…I know what I am talking about…

With so many negative things happening in the world, I welcome such an accomplishment.

Devry? Man, please De-fry yourself with your buy-me-a-degree. Most major Universities in the U.S. will not even accept credits earned at De-fry…Please!!!

Congratulations, young man. This is a very good start and I pray that you will continue along these lines. 3.86 GPA is no small feat at any level. I am sure that the young man has probably done physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics/calculus to date. You have earnd your GPA. Continue to press on and prove the negative vibes wrong. God Bless!!

ok so congrats to the young man cause at the end of the day we should all be positive. but seriously….do we put up the names of all the students at DSC along with their pic when they get an associate degree. i am not saying dont give praises but seriously DNO its not everything that needs such big outlook and right now ppl are saying its because of his family and you are forced to agree when you see big praises…dominica students does it again only to read and see he got an associate degree. it may be a big deal to him and his friends and family but it shouldnot be that big a deal for the entire world to know..it looks like we have no news then it looks like we are only saying that because of who he is.

Allu to impossible – it’s not only the Masters and PHDs which deserve acknowledgment.

Rome wasn’t built in a day and this young man is moving on up.

Be proud for him that he is just starting out and getting somewhere.

I can’t stand the people who act as if the Masters and PHDs are the be all and end all.

I went to law school which a bunch of ppl with the big names. Yes, i’m proud of my degrees, but it made me realise that sometimes even those with them can be idiots with high degrees.

Sometimes, it is those with the bachelors, or even associates who make the biggest waves.

Young man, keep striving. If you are going to get higher degrees, do not look down on anyone without a degree or a degree not as good as yours.

I know Paralegals who have no degrees and are more successful than lawyers with degrees. It’s all a matter of how good you are at what you do and how you use your opportunities.

Young man – keep on striving for better

Congratulations young man!! I for one would not publish and never have published my credentials. An old friend who is very wise once told me “..it’s on you. Only you can work it and only you will die with it, so go about placidly and do your best to help humanity”… However that’s just me, and at a time when so many ills plague our society if that’s his achievement for now, why not celebrate him, or say nothing? Why do we as Dominicans always cry and pull each other down?

I live in the US and sometimes I get so fed-up of seeing trophies, awards and grad pics of 5 & 6 year olds but their parents are proud. Let him be!! It may not be much to many of you, but it’s his all the same. We would not have reacted the same if he heard he had done something dreadful, water wouldn’t wash him and his family. Leave the young man alone! Congratulations son of the soil, fly with the wind

Congrats and remain strong as the road ahead is long. Stay focus as the road to sucess is always under construction. Dominicans let us celebrate our young people when they achieve. Let 2012 be a year to celbrate each other and not tear each other apart or pll down.

Fisrt of all, let me say a big congratulations to this young man! I’m always very proud to see my people elevate themselves through higher learning rather than engage in negative undesirable behaviour involving drugs and crime. Thumbs up Omari!!

However, General Business and Economics??? Seriously?? By way of advice to this young man and all other Dominicans pursuing tertiary level education, unless you have a secure job waiting for you, PLEASE do not waste your time by studying Business, especially if you’re planning to return home. We have a huge problem in our country at this time where a significant number of our young people have degrees, but the great majority is in Business or some other generic field.

We need specialists in Dominica. We need qualified Engineers, Food Scientists, Radiologists, Chemists, Plumbers, IT Technicians, Veterinarians, someone who could fix an elevator and so on…this is where the jobs are! It’s where the money is.

Good luck to all those at universities but don’t just get a degree to say that you have one. Do a bit of research. Find out what the demands are. Set the path for your future…

    • Kanpeche
      December 30, 2011

Common! Seriously. Thanks for the advice, but no thanks. Tertiary education, mate? Zot Domni-chien pas faible. Don’t speak with forked tongue, mate. He pursues what makes him happy. Why pursue a medical degree when you can’t stand being in a hospital on dealing with sick people? Why not just be happy for him. He could have gotten involved in drugs, or become a delinquent…

      You Domni-Chien know how to kill a person’s spirit…

Some of you have some serious mental problem of learning to respect others. for example one person boasting Devry, and at the sametime dissing the young man. What the hell is Devry. I would bypass Devry if i had to send my parrot to learn one word, so don’t even talk about this University.

    • Mr.G
      December 29, 2011

Mane, you probably did not read the post properly. No one is dissing the young man for his achievements. I; personally, do not see it as a headliner. And for your info, DeVry is globally accredited. So unlike SPC, DeVry University which houses Ross Medical University is worth more to Dominica as far as I am concerned. In addition, when I browse DNO I look for credible news, NOT TRIVIAL and ENTERTAINING write up for space filling of an ‘e-paper’.

Negative people always think negative. This is why so many of us cannot rise to the level of acceptance, because of our own behavior. If this news was about he raping, killing, or stealing them you all would say something else. You guys got a nasty spirit of jealousy ,envy, and strife to people of your own kind, culture, race, and nationality. What is wrong about this posting? stop making someone else happiness your problem.

Good job young man.Your achievement was based on your hard work, sleepless nights ,and sacrifices that no one could have done for you, so rejoice in your achievements. I remember many years ago when i told a friend that i got an A in my Maths course, and he asked me what level? I told him maths 86. He started laughing, because he had his Bachelors, and i was just entering college.
Today i got two associates, one Bachelor, and presently i am in Graduate school. He is still at the same level laughing his foolish self out, so ignore those who fail to rejoice with you and keep on climbing the ladder of achievement, and one day you look back and see those empty barrells on the way side doing their own children the same thing.
I guess your parents are proud of you aah, so that’s all you need.

well congratulation young man. Continue striving for the best. This is just the first step in a long road to success.
now DNO, please open a include a column dedicated to educational achievers so the hundreds of undergraduates and graduates of Dominica from overseas universities and colleges can be featured every semester.

ADMIN: Look, we don’t have to open any column. Anyone who take five minutes to write something about their achievements and send it to us, we will publish. Some people just sit down, do nothing and expect the world to know of their achievements. SMH.

Maysiay! If we pay attention to the top left corner of the article we will see the words “Press Release”. DNO did not go seeking the story…most likely it was submitted by the young man’s family members who are obviously proud of his accomplishments. There is no need to be so negative. If you don’t like the story hit the “back button” and return to the home page. If persons are interested in having their own educational accomplishments recognized, submit your story! I am sure DNO will publish it! There is no need for all this negativity man…The story is here because somebody is proud enough of the young man and thinks it’s a big deal… Congratulations, my boy. Keep striving.

    ADMIN: Thank you!!!!

Are you serious? IS this really affecting the socio-economic issues that Dominica faces? Is this a threat to lives in Dominica? How does he affect the Global front? A younger brother graduated Devry University with Honors – I graduated Devry and soon to continue a masters’ program with Devry/Keller Graduate, Do you have concern to put that in your e-paper?
It’s ridiculous postings like this that contributes to the division of people in Dominica. DNO Editor, Dominica is too small class structure. We can appreciate and encourage an education to all, but this irrelevant to Dominicans. Let his parents and close friends enjoy his success. When he returns to Dominica and give back to the people, then give him the media exposure for his successful contribution.
