ROSEAU, Dominica, July 12th, 2016 – When regional insurance company Sagicor Life Inc called on young people to demonstrate Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (S.T.E.M.) in Action with short videos, the call did not go unheeded by young Aprille Rolle. The task was simple – submit a 15-second video showing aspects of S.T.E.M. in the environment. A panel of judges selected the five finalists and fans of the Sagicor Visionaries Challenge Facebook page voted for the top three entries.
Aprille, from Dominica, won comfortably with her video entitled “Dominica – Effortlessly Beautiful!”. Viewers were treated to a close-up journey, through bright green blades of grass, which ended with an unexpected view of a river estuary from a high cliff.
Cheryl Rolle, Manager of Sagicor Life Inc Dominica congratulated Aprille on her win. “It seems only fitting that a student from the Nature Isle has captured first prize in our video competition showcasing aspects of nature in their environment. We are very proud of Aprille and how she has showcased Dominica. This competition was a perfect mixture of S.T.E.M. – focusing on the environment using today’s modern technology.”
Fourteen year old Aprille is experienced behind the lens. “I enjoy taking nature videos and photos when I hike or swim. For this video I used an iPhone 6”.
When asked whether she expected to win Aprille responded, “I was both thrilled and surprised to find out that I won as the other competitor videos were very good.”
Aprille’s visionary look at S.T.E.M. won her a Microsoft Surface 3 Tablet.
So.. video?
She cheated! Images of Dominica makes it easy to win any competition… the others didn’t stand a chance!

Seems like there should be a link to the video somewhere.
