A Dominican student studying in the US has won the second place award in Chemical Sciences at the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) 18th Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium in the Chemical and Biological Sciences at University of Maryland, Baltimore County.

Jahnn Drigo won the award for her poster entered in the competition entitled, “Microwave Assisted Organic Synthesis of Heptamethine Cyanine Dyes.”

Drigo is a chemistry major at Morgan State University.

She is from Portsmouth where she first attended the St. John’s Primary then the Portsmouth Secondary School (PSS).

At PSS, she achieved eight ones at the CXC level and national award for placing third on the island in the exams.

She then moved to Sir Arthur Lewis in St. Lucia to do her A-Levels in Chemistry, Physics and Biology. She is presently pursuing her Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry at Morgan State University.

The UMBC research symposium seeks to display the diverse array of student-committed endeavors and foster the communication of their relevant novel results and concepts.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE YOUNG LADY. Thank God her parents or those who were responsible for her, had the foresight to send her to Sir Arthur Lewis in St. Lucia to do her A-Levels in Chemistry, Physics and Biology. Meanwhile parents who are blinded by narrow partisan loyalty prefer to risk the future of their children by not compelling the Dominica Government to offer their children choice. It does not even matter to them that those who are responsible for not giving them choice are guaranteeing their own children’s future by “birthing” them in the USA (Not Venezuela, or Libya, or Morocco, etc). It is either selflessness or pure idiocy with a touch of masochism. I suspect it is the latter. Also, check out those with green cards but who continue to sing the praises of the government. They know they have an escape. And guess what? The people on whose behalf I am saying this will turn around and verbally abuse me. Sigh. Go ahead, continue to disadvantage your children.

“Dominican” (and I hope your alias is not representative of the national inclination), I hit a raw nerve, huh! You are predictable. You walked right into my trap but that is how the slave masters (including the contemporary ones) enslaved you. They studied you and those like you and then tailored the traps. And typical of your kind, you missed the whole point. Sad state. Like I said before, “Go ahead, continue to disadvantage your children.” You can even be abusive in your language, but that will not change anything. You are enslaved.

To reiterate, CONGRATULATIONS TO THE YOUNG LADY. Thank God her parents or those who were responsible for her, had the foresight to send her to Sir Arthur Lewis Community College in St. Lucia to do her A-Levels in Chemistry, Physics and Biology.

It\’s good to see Dominicans excel overseas but the sad thing is, is that DOMINICANS won\’t regard you as a DOMINICAN when you return to make your contribution especially when endorsed by the Government. There are some politically jealous driven country blue rebels who will oppose you. Keep your head high.

DNO please move this story up as the first one, it is lost where you have it. At least we are hearing of her at this age. She will not have to come back to us when she close to retirement and try to explain to Dominican her roots in Dominica. This young lady is an ambassador to Dominica. Not those who lived their lives forgetting there was a Dominica…home and after looking for Dominicans to embrace them when they just pop up. Congratulation young lady. Something our young heads can aspire to do.

That would be the best thing for the young lady to do but let us be honest she would not get a job in Dominica but don’t worry St Lucia would be happy to have her , the students of Dominica go to study all over the world and do very well but they cannot get jobs at home other countries and Island grab them up something is wrong.
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE YOUNG LADY YOU HAVE DONE US PROUD .
