DSC to hold 11th commencement ceremony

dominica state collegeThree hundred and sixty four students of the Dominica State College (DSC) will celebrate their graduation on Wednesday 16th, October during the 11th Commencement ceremony.

One Bachelor of Science degree and 347 associate degrees will be conferred while some 26 students will be presented with certificates.

Dr. Donald C. Peters, President of the Dominica State College, will preside over the event and is also expected to give the Charge to the Commencement Class. Other addresses are expected from the Minister for Education Petter Saint Jean and Dr Schyuel Espirit will give the commencement address.

Dr.  Esprit is a scholar of Caribbean literature and cultural studies. She is now based in Dominica and travels throughout the region to complete research for her book project, currently entitled Occasions for Caribbean Reading. She holds a PhD in English literature from University of Maryland – College Park and her most recent academic position is Assistant Professor of English at Trinity Washington University. She has taught and held professional positions at a number of other US universities.

Outstanding graduates will receive special awards, a feature of which will be the Valedictorian who is chosen on the bases of outstanding academic performance and significant contribution to collegiate life and community outreach.

In the meantime, due to the ongoing construction work at the Stock farm campus of the DSC, and the number of guests, parents and well wishers expected to attend the commencement ceremony, early arrival is strongly advised.

Only special guests, lecturers and other officials of the college will be allowed to park above the netball stadium. Everyone else is advised to shuttle from the Public Works building at lower Goodwill.

The ceremony will be held outdoors in the Lower Stock farm Campus from 3:00 pm.

In the event of heavy rain an abbreviated ceremony will be held in the auditorium.
