The best-selling author and motivational speaker Mr. Joe Girard once stated that “The elevator to success is out of order. You’ll have to use the stairs … one step at a time.”
This unmistakably demonstrates that whatever we as a people have achieved now had a start and went gradually through progression. The Lions club of Dominica expressed this inspiration since their date of establishment on March 15th, 1968. The main goal and motive for this club was based significantly on membership development, growth, and quality community services with much emphasis on the elderly and needy. The club is now celebrating 42 years of fulfilling this motive with commitment and dedication.
Some of their achievements include the building of the facility, which now houses the Workshop for the Blind, 25 years and more of hosting ‘Carols by Candlelight’, scholarship programs, charter of the youth arm, which is the Leo Club from 1977 and 1994 to now. They serve as part of Sub District 60 B, which
includes Jamaica, Cayman Islands, Netherlands Antilles, the U.S and British Virgin Islands, Windward and Leeward Islands and Barbados.
The main focus of Lions Club International Foundation (LCIF) – under which auspices the Dominica Club functions – hinge primarily on health programs with direct interest on hearing loss, sight and supporting efforts to control and prevent diabetes. The Foundation aids Lions in making a greater impact in their local communities, as well as around the world. Through the LCIF, Lions ease pain and suffering and bring healing and hope to people worldwide.
The local club celebrates their 42nd Anniversary with a church service at the Bellevue Chopin Chapel, meeting with a special guest speaker at the Canefield Community Center on the March 17th, 2010 and a Cocktail for past members on the March 19th, 2010.
The club thanks the many sponsors and corporate citizens who have made their endeavors an immense accomplishment. They will continue to be community oriented individuals who will remain focused on the task that is ahead. When it comes to meeting challenges, the response is simple: they serve and will continue to empower the next generation with affirmative purposes to carry on the baton as true, enthusiastic and devoted lions.
