The Dominicans at UVI is a group of Dominicans who attend the University of the Virgin Islands. It is our every intention to live up to our theme – “From the Isle of Beauty we strive for unity, we hold our heads up high, Dominicans at UVI”.
Therefore, we will be holding a poetry contest for Dominican high school students.
The theme of the contest is “Dominica, past and present”. Students who wish to participate must be between the ages of 12 and 17. Poems should:
• not be more than two typed pages;
• typed in Microsoft Word or another Word processor;
• include the heading – Dominica Past and Present;
• be written in Standard English and errors corrected;
• relate to the given theme;
• have a coherent and logical structure;
• be original.
Judging is based on:
• purpose;
• message and interest;
• neatness and error detection and correction;
• mood;
• form and flow of information;
• originality;
• choice of words;
• impact;
• overall structure.

Please encourage your students to participate as they will be receiving: a laptop (first prize), an e-book (second prize) and $100.00 (third prize).
The deadline for receipt of entries is midnight, on April 30th 2011.
