A donation of three new Dell computers was made to the Portsmouth Public Library in September by Mr. Aaron Charles an overseas based Dominican, residing in England.
Mr. Charles is the son of deceased Mr. Amos P. Charles and Mrs. Angela Charles both former residents of the community of Portsmouth who resided in England.
During one of his visits to the Portsmouth library Mr. Charles noticed that only one computer was available to the many students and other patrons waiting to do research.
This major setback triggered him to make this very kind gesture to the library. In an email to the library he wrote: “Sincerely, it was my pleasure to have been able to do this for the library in its quest to serve the community. I hope the equipment will be of major benefit to the school children specifically and the community in generally in the months / years to come.”
The estimated cost of the machines is EC$4,707.27.
All three computers were ready for use at the start of the new 2015/2016 school year.
The Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development, the Library & Information Service, especially the staff of Portsmouth Library are grateful to Mr. Charles for his generosity and will ensure the proper use of these equipment.
The Portsmouth Library has been in operation since 1984 and serves the community of Portsmouth and environs and ten schools in the north, north east and the west coast of Dominica through its mobile library services.
Thanks, Sir, for being a problem solver! Problem finders only talk.
There’s no real excuse for a library only having one computer.
thank you so much to Mr. Charles
we are very grateful for these computers.
