The Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development announces the postponement of the reopening of secondary schools to Monday September 14, 2015 due to forecasted inclement weather associated with two tropical systems in the upcoming days.
Secondary schools were originally expected to open on Wednesday, September 9.
A tropical wave is expected to produce rain across the island on Wednesday, while a weakened Tropical Storm Grace, now a Tropical Depression, is expected to bring rains by Friday.
Therefore, schools, primary and secondary, will reopen on Monday September 14, 2015 with the exception of the Pichelin Primary School, Delices Primary School, Jones Beaupierre Primary School, Coulibistrie Primary School, Colihaut Primary School and the Roseau Primary School which will remain closed until further notice.
The Ministry of Education has made arrangements to provide water to schools where there is still no pipe borne water and solicits the support of the general public in ensuring that this objective is achieved.
The ministry wishes to state that the safety and security of our students and staff is paramount, therefore, we thank all for working with us as we continue to provide regular updates in the days ahead.
What about SMA
A simple decision on when to resume school has taken numerous statements. If this is an indication of the joined up thinking of Goverment will we ever recover from this disaster without outside the island help. Our Goverment seems to lack any cohesive strategy.
Remember god never sleep.
Sound like people, are getting confused by the announcement
Nothing wrong, if class start later. Simple it could close later also.
We only could predict the weather like other reporter. But who knows.
I am not a mother, But parents.I am sure, you all know best for your children. Be wise about the weather and kids on bus drive. No easy.
Some people are so mad that precaution is being taken so that means that no one will be in danger they will criticize the decision taken because they wanted something to happen to put our children in danger. What really is wrong in deciding to go ahead and reopen on monday? All some people can do is criticize. If you do a check on all the critics and haters none of them have done anything sucessful to warrant some sort of attention,. A bunch of haters,I cannot comprehend how one can hate their country that way.
yes the whole entire school
In grammar school some children that living there all now so going school, and grammar School children cannot go school because of them. That not fair not to be selfish or anything. But come on! Government help out nah!! Again not trying to sound selfish.but yah?????
By Saturday all will be over. I hope this will be the last of the storms’ depression.
We still have September to go. September, remember.
The new date school reopening is better. They can start afresh on Monday. It will take a while for the teachers, students and schools to get back to normal. Everything takes time. In time they will.
One thing I can say – No one can ever pay me enough to become a politician in Dominica.
Was there a different forecast today than the one Petter St. Jean received yesterday afternoon when he announced “All secondary school students should report to school on Wednesday, September 9”? Furthermore, did the forecast get worse today than the one Skerrit warned about during his address to the nation last night? Say the report of Skerrit came after St. Jean spoke, then why did Skerrit not use the address to cancel the previous one? Could it be that Skerrit’s speech was written and emailed after St. Jean spoke and Skerrit could not read it?
This is just further proof that these jokers are confused, visionless, disarrayed, and delusional. Don’t be surprised to hear another announcement tomorrow that all schools will open on Thursday.
Think and be positive. He may have reconsidered it and after he either heard or read comments which opposed the opening of schools this week.
They are not jokers. Have you ever made a decision and then rescind it? We all do that, more than once. Give them a break and have respect.
Politicians work and pleasing nationals are not easy ones. Pray for them, pray for Dominica and other nationals and for yourself.
You, too, need prayers and a lot of them. Ask God for the grace to cease being negative and consistently critical.
Some pray, probably only for themselves and not for others. We are obligated to pray for everyone and wish them well; not insult them and disrespect them.
While I am at it, The thought crossed my mind that the Mother of God said to a visionary which is a message for us all, God’s created children, “There are many ‘graces’ but we do not ask for them.” I like to say, some more so than others.
Our Lord said, “Ask and you shall receive.”
@The Real Facts,”Mother of God. ” Who is the mother of God? Was God born, or is a supreme being that created everything and everything that was created? Stop teaching foolishness that contradicts the bible?
If you find I am criticizing the government too much, please point out one thing I said that was not true> They keep acting disorganized so I point them out. FYI I would have said nothing if Petter St. Jeane (Education minister), had made his announcement about school opening on Wednesday, and then Skerrit, in his address had informed the nation that due to weather report, school would remain closed until after the pending storm. But for the PM to spend so much time warning about the danger the pending storm pose to us and said absolutely NOTHING about school his minister announced would open the same day of the pending storm, is enough to show us that they are confused, visionless, disorganized and incompetent.
Oh shut the hell up! I am not a supporter of this party but sometimes it’s really annoying the way we make an issue out of everything. If he didn’t postpone school opening you’d be saying something else. People like you disgust me.
Well @%. Since you are so good at leading , why aren’t you in the lead? Go do something or suggest something instead of sitting back and criticizing. Go be an example to others. No one is perfect. At least the leaders trying to do something to make things better unlike you who sit and wait to see what happens next
You know, there are many talkers, critics and non-doers. They should really offer to help rather than criticize especially that God spared their life from tropical storm, Erika. One would think they would be grateful about that and show it by helping.
If they are unemployed and able, the PM should get them to help. This should keep them busy and fruitful for their own good.
AMEN brother
Its amazing,,
So Portsmouth secondary skool children has to report to d skool 2mrrw
Is that how you spell “school” or you deliberately spelt it “skool?” I do not think this is a typographical error or is it a sarcastic one?
Do not tell me this is the manner in which the Americans spell it. They now have their own spelling. They have taken out certain letters from words.
Someone chastised me yesterday when I said that Petter St Jean will be forced to say something else today. This happens when incompetent leaders with no coordination rule our land!
I AM VINDICATED!
YES U ARE MY FRIEND!
Some folks are just too damn incompetent and arrogant.
Assertive, NEVER Aggressive!
Does this includes grammar school firstto third form?
What part of ‘secondary schools’ did you not understand? Isn’t Grammar School a secondary school?
This is a legitimate question because 1-3rd Form students were asked to await further instructions while 4th-5th reports. In need the answer to that question also.
Do you have a problem in someone asking a question??
