Today is World Thinking Day

Girl guides and girls scouts in and around Dominica have joined the rest of the world to celebrate “World Thinking Day” today.

World Thinking Day is the birthday of the founder and chief guide of the World Girl Guides Association.

In an address issued today, President of the Dominica Girl Guide Association Ivenia Benjamin said today girl guides will also give thanks and support to each other.

“We also take the time to interface with the public and to inform them about the programmes and projects that we undertake,” she said.

According to Benjamin, this year the Girl Guides has decided to embark upon a millennium goal outlined by the United Nations.

“Every year on thinking day, the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts focus on one of the United Nationals Development Goals. In 2009, we focused on stopping the spread of HIV/AIDS, malaria and other deceases. This year 2010, we focus on ending poverty…” she said.

The theme, according to Benjamin, encourages girls and women to make a personal commitment to raising awareness about hunger and poverty and to take steps to improve the lives of the poorest people of the world.

She has encouraged Dominicans to continue to give to the Haitian community who was affected by a massive earthquake on January 12, 2010.
