UWI Dominica head wants parents to do more

Head of the University of the West Indies Open Campus in Dominica Dr. Francis Severin is accusing some parents here of pushing their children further into the drug trade.

He said some parents in Dominica are totally aware that their children are pushing drugs but instead of encouraging them against it, “they take the gifts”.

He was addressing a graduation ceremony in Wesley last week.

“Many mothers are accepting valuable gifts and thousands of dollars from their sons who they are aware risk their lives by drug trafficking and partaking in other illegal activities,” he said.

He said rather than warn their sons of the dangers; they encourage them to amass wealth while destroying the lives of others.

“Sons come home, place the smoking guns on the table, instead they take the gold chains and they allow their sons to do whatever they want…then they cry crocodile tears when their sons are killed when in confrontation with the police,” he said.

Chanelle from JA, believe me when I tell you that I have NO nerve that the likes of Dr. Severin can strike–WHATSOEVER! And there is nothing that I can learn from him, not even Sociology, because I did that in University on my road to my profession.
You should thank God that DNO has a moderator.

This and virtually all the comments I hear from this man indicate self-righteousness and an insatiable need for attention. Where is his evidence in this case, anyway?

Trute man Dr Severin must have struck a nerve with you and the likes of you! You know very well the man spoke truth! He is a respectable man of sound judgement. Someone you need to learn from. Listen to his addresses, you will learn to live right, instead of criticising the man. Dominicans so caught up in darkness any thing that has a degree of light they criticise and say negative things about. Everything he said is TRUTH! Deal with it, clean up all you act in the country from politician to drug dealer. I know the cap fit all of you, so wear it! Don’t kill the messenger winst09, just take the message for you and your family all you need it! Genius he doesn’t have to run for elections to say how it is, besides which politician is going to tell you as it is? I bet Dr. Severin would never run for politics in Dominca, he is too straight forward for you Dominicans you all like crookedness! By the way I am not Dominican!

Is he a preacher or the head of UWI? He must learn to leave out his religious beliefs from school stuff. Politics is part of our lives, how can we leave it out? In his remarks he spoke of parents being hooked on politics and not on gd. To each his own Sir!!!!!! Whether you support the government or not its up to you but please set a positive example for our kids.
