A song which “brings out a fresh beat of pride, resilience and is rallying cry for victims of Tropical Storm Erika” has been released by playwright, Alex Bruno, and is presently hitting the airwaves.
The song, “Erika,” is said to be a crossover song with elements of Gwoka Bèlè and Mazouk. It was written and performed by President of the Erika Disapora Relief Group, based in South Florida, Alex Bruno and Mickael Ferrol in the wake of tropical storm Erika which devastated sections of Dominica on August 27, 2015.
The devastation served as an inspiration for the song, Bruno told DNO.
“It is not easy being a patriot and not being in your island in time of distress and need,” he stated.
Bruno said while coordinating efforts to assist the island, he began asking himself questions.
“Why is that Dominica got hit so bad? I was asking so many questions … so then I decided to put my thoughts in song and asked Erika a few questions,” he noted. “The questions I had to ask I couldn’t ask it to anybody else but Erika, basically that is what inspired the song.”
Bruno said he lost friends during the disaster, including a very close one in Petite Savanne, and his heart is crying for the people who lost their lives and property in Petite Savanne, Coulibistrie and other areas.
“It was a very devastating time for me,” he stated. “I felt like I was the one going through the pain that our country went through … it was a lot to bear. At one point in time I had to pause a bit and shed a tear.”
He was particularly hit hard by the evacuation of Petite Savanne and the animals that may have been left behind.
“I am very concerned about the animals and the well-being of the environment…,” he noted.
A video for the song will be produced in Dominica during the Independence Celebrations, capturing the scenery, sights and sounds of Erika, Bruno noted.
Other persons who contributed to the song include Kidron Alexander and Melchour Joseph, a Producer & Recording Engineer.
The song was recorded at Klassic Entertainment Studios in Florida.

Whooos nice song. you should have called me to do some vocals on the track
Alex my boy you’re trying to operate way above your competence. Think about my statement. Jack of all trade master of none.
DNO where is the link for the song? I haven’t heard it as yet.
ADMIN: The song is at the bottom of the story.
i cant believe Kidron Alexander and Melchour Joseph, contributed to that non sense and cant bring myself to listen to this again i almost pull out my ears!!!! wheel and come again Alex and this is coming from your good friend, no hard feelings bro
Really!!!!!!!!!!Shame on you for making a mokery of the situation
Its sort of a folk song people get an education to cure your simple mindedness, every song does not have to be like that of the Lucas Band or of an American genre stupes
Any untalented person can sing that song , I hope one of our good song writer will come with a better song to move our feet after this devastation.
The song is funny but very poorly developed….the verses are too short, i think much more lines could be put into the verse as TS Erika brought about events that could make strong content.
idk bout all u, but this song is actually nice.. nice vibe, upbeat
Honesty speaking I did not get any message from this song. Its very disappointing on behalf an island that was devastated so badly.
How can you be so upbeat when hearts are broken? Give people time to heal it’s not a pappy show?
Alex come back again. That’s a joke.
Great song! Seems as if the commentators on here felt as if the World Meteorological Organization should not have included Erica in the names for hurricanes and tropical storms. Guess Ericka will be permanently retired from use along with the likes of David and Katrina.
Good job Alex. Your audience just too difficult to please.
Alex my boy, sorry but I feel a bit queezy in this one. Apart from the quality I don’t read anything about the money raised by this song going to relief for Dominica and I would hate to think you are just cashing in on Erika.
I actually like this. There is a pensiveness, almost hunted quality about this sound and yet it’s catchy. my 9yr old who is not even Dominica and is not usually attacted to our music Started dancing right away, the first time we listen to it. Good vibes.
where is the song i dont see it. guys he tried dont bash him.
Really?? The song made me laugh a little but still wondering what was that. Something is definitely missing with that one.
LOL, back to the drawing board my friend – You intentions were good, though! LOL
Apart from the song, which does not define the brother.my opinion once Alex heart is in the right place, that’s fine with me. I look what an individual does to assist our cause in this time of disaster, and mayham. Alex talk the talk, and walk the walk. Keep doing what you and your crew in North America. Do not allow a song to define who you are.
Song too repetitive. Bored, tired of hearing “woy woy why why Ericka do me dat”
Big Tune. Very upbeat with the deep cultural feel. Needed at this time
SMH. is this a joke?? bruno this is madness. SMH
Alex you need to go back to the drawing board, this song is not original and beat is also not. Disappointed in the song a little more time should be spent developing the song.
I agree. The song sounds like a song The Irish Kid would sing. Alex dropped the ball on this one. He should have given it to one of our junior calypsonians to sing. When one listens to the quality of the song We Will Rise Again it just shows that Alex completely missed the mark.
