Buzz over plans for staging of 15th Dominica World Creole Music Festival

August 15, 2011: Roseau, Dominica —- The Dominica Festivals Committee (DFC) is reporting heightened interest and a big buzz being created by fans and patrons of the World Creole Music Festival for the staging of this year’s festival, scheduled for October 28-30 at the Windsor Park Stadium in Roseau, Dominica.

The DFC is expressing its satisfaction over the response from fans of the festival, reporting a high level of interest with the line-up released for this year’s festival as well as with the plans outlined so far for the staging of this major event in Dominica.

According to DFC Event’s Director, Mrs. Natalie Clarke-Meade, plans for the staging of this year’s event are progressing satisfactorily, with the Events Management Team focusing on key functional areas, including finalizing arrangements for contracting bands and performing artistes, venue preparations, marketing and promotions, security, media relations, merchandising,  accommodation and air and ground transportation. Mrs. Clarke-Meade is also excited over the buzz being created so far.

And according to Mrs. Meade: “I feel people are expecting much from us this year and thanks to our platinum sponsor DIGICEL and many partners, this will become a reality. Patrons are anticipating quite an exciting time because of the line-up for this year’s festival. They are calling in to say how much they like the line-up, noting that it is a balanced one with something for Creole and music lovers. The DFC Office and its Board want to ensure we deliver a quality festival experience to our cherished patrons on this special anniversary year, giving them something worth their expectations”, the DFC Events’ Director said.

She however expressed the hope that “the challenges of the world economic crisis which is impacting not just Dominica, but the entire Caribbean would not reflect negatively on arrivals to our festival”, she explained.

Mrs. Meade reported also that “already hotels, airlines in and out of Dominica are filling up quickly during the month of October” and wants to encourage overseas patrons to make early bookings if they want to experience this unique music festival.

The 15th World Creole Music Festival will run from Friday 28th to Sunday 30th October.  Night One: Alie Campbell (the legendary voice of UB40); Kolo Barst of Martinique; Harmonik of Haiti; Jeff Joseph and Gramacks/New Generation; and WCK; Night Two: Jean-Philippe Marthely and Jocelyne Beroard of Kassav fame with Band a Pipo of Martinique; Dobet Gnahore of Ivory Coast; Third World of Jamaica; Carimi of Haiti, and Midnight Groovers of Dominica; Night Three: Swinging Stars of Dominica; Zouk All Stars with Fanny, Jocelyne Labylle and Alex Catrin of Guadeloupe; Reggae superstar, Gyptian; Bunji Garlin and Fay-ann Lyons of Trinidad, and Triple Kay of Dominica.

THANKS to our headline sponsors The Government of Dominica and DIGICEL…the bigger, better, network!

It doesn’t matter what the line up is I IN Dat as usual.

However its seems apart from the saturday night , friday and sunday looks a bit shaky.

From the article it don’t seems clear that UB40( the band)is going to be there but Alie Campbell (the legendary voice of UB40); Admin can you clarify.

Seen gyptians 2 two times and he’s a joke and most recently at caribbean melting pot in wadadli carnival , Bunji Garlin and Fay-ann Lyons of Trinidad has proven that they don’t deserved the 20000 plus USD that they charging.

On a more serious note , has anyone in Dominica ever did a study as to the impact of the creole festival on the economy of antigua and barbuda. ( food for thought)

I kept hearing on the streets that they are making looses every year. If this is true then i would like to do how much and why in these trouble times should we take taxes payers money to subsidI

ADMIN: UB40 is not going to be in the line up, only the legendary voice of the group, Alie Campbell.

why in these trouble time should we take tax payers money to subsidize a festival where the bulk of the expenditure is going towards foreign artist. ( a further justify for the governmnet to conduct an impact study)

With all these issues in mind , i being a party Animal will be there.

shaboo by that time you might be able to catch RED Jet from florida. :-D lol

the Band UB40 wont be at the Fest..its Alistar Campbell their ex-lead singer who left the band over 3 years now..

Big Difference..big difference..so in other words “if he shows up” its not the real deal.

thats why its 1/3 aspect into a side show..so in otherwords nothing to shout about…

Ted, check the comment by NRT below, whoever that person is knows that many foreign artists overcharging the committee when it should be the other way around for a festival that has proven itself.

nothing to shout about this line..seems like a ordinary street block..there isnt any crowd pulling acts…its a typical recycled,or side show acts…its not something that i would be eager to see…many of these acts come in regular on weekends to island plus some are garage bands etc…so in the end nothing to show about..third world with all respect have being here a few times and not at the top of their game..then you have the side show of ali campbell doing his thing..again fingers crossed on if he will show up etc..so in the end the fat lady will sing….lol

It’s about time the WCMF leverage itself to some prospective bands and artists as a venue to showcase their act – almost to the point of paying to take part, like many int’l Fest do.

They all want to be in it. Use the savings to entice notable music/video producers and such to see them.

After 15 yrs it is already well known by artists as a very popular festsival. By now, lots of these JA artists and others should be cheap, offered lower compensation because the Fest has become a high value-for-money showcase of their acts (except for major acts, one per Festival – Wyclef was a good idea, Ryanna, MJ Blige, U know who are big/major)… even I, have got many of those JA acts for much less than they tell me WCMF pay them. Think about that – Think outside da box guys!

@ NRT, I hope they read your piece, you would think it sounds like a natural move now that their festival has matured.

I am pleased that the World Creole Music Festival will be held in October. This sounds excellent. It is also in winter for those of us who reside in a wintry country.
I have plans for February 2012, always if the Good Lord wills.
Would love to attend the Creole Music Festival probably next year.
If I win a lottery, Dominica here I come in October 2011. The Festival is close to my birthday and also to National Day. This would be a grand celebration. You know the saying, “Killing two birds with one stone.” I wish that this would be a possibility for this year October. Then I would remain in Dominica throughout winter. Rest assured that many Dominicans who are especially abroad would love to attend.
Sweet Dominica, the land of beauty…! There really is no place like home. Dominica will always be my home.
Canada is my home for now, away from my home, Dominica. Whenever I speak of “home” it is always Dominica. No one can take this away from me.

Are you are jailbird? Are you bitter and envious? I would not  I would not make such a statement to anyone. Do not deny Dominicans abroad the right and excitement of visiting Dominica especially at such times. Dominica is their home where they were born and brought up. They would obviously have a love for it and to participate in the celebrations. We wished that we could be there at all times. Unfortunately, we can only be in one place at a time. That is life for those who reside abroad.
