A comic featuring a fictional character called “Super Dominica” was launched on Wednesday, July 30 on the internet.

“Super Dominica” is a Kalinago super heroine with powers based on the indigenous people’s rich history and culture.

The comic, dubbed “The mini-adventures of Super Dominica,” will be updated every other Friday.

The comic is the brain child of digital illustrator, Albert Pierre, a Dominican now living in St. Thomas.

He said the series is part of giving back to his native country.

“Even though I live in the US territory, this is my way of giving back in doing something new and different,” he said.

He also said he hopes the comic will expose the richness of the Kalinago culture.

Pierre created “Super Dominica” in 2005 as a spin-off from an original story, The Dominican Patriot, which is still under development.

However, his computer crashed in 2010 and all his files were gone.

He was not deterred and he went right back to work creating the series launched on Wednesday.

He noted that an actual comic book on “Super Dominica” is presently under development.

“In the future I hope to add in more Caribbean Super Heroes, each having their on unique super powers based on their islands culture, history and features,” Pierre stated.

The comic is also available as an Android app.

It’s a great idea…. Not so sure of the name or her outfit. Both should be a bit more traditional/authentic. Super Dominica sounds a little lazy to me!

Am I the only one who is wondering why the heroine isn’t dressed more like a Kalinago but looks more like a modern day woman?

Is she a kalinago or dominican super heroine, just a bit odd a kalinago heroine would be call “super dominica” A name that was given to a nation by Italian-columbus who disregard the name waitukubuli. But thumbs up, good idea, i will be looking foward to reading, her adventures. can’t wait when she takes on the evil “supremo”

Mr.Pierre, “Super Dominica” heroine looks suspiciously similar to Dora the Explorer….

that should be of no surprise as Dora is of Mexican/Aztec Indian descent. i.e indigenous people.

4 laughs, this is so not funny…genuine thinking Dominicans would never attempt to bring their country into such low opprobrium…shame on you and all those who would support this gesture.

De observer I did not mention you are/were trying to impress us with a big word like opprobrium?
you could say something like esteem. That would have been cool. but like I said before in a different way you spend two weeks in the USA overnight turn eloquent and wanna impress us ? you were most like born in the 80’s and never heard the Trade winds of B/dos song.

Mr.Pierre, could you make/present our politicians in another mini, non-Kalinago princes and princesses in ur weekly comic series
I hope cartoons of them will bring much laughter to the population every week.
Cartoons depicting corruption financial. sexual etc and all that they indulge in ?
It would make good reading on a Monday and Friday anti stress. The Gobbles Team on Kairi FM 9:00- 10:00 AM Mon-Friday could be good for starts nuh fun coming from them and their VIP line.
