The second annual Madame Wob Dwiyet Canada is set to hit the stage in Toronto, Canada, as Dominicans around the world put plans in motion to celebrate the island’s 35th anniversary of Independence.

The event is scheduled to take place on Sunday, September 29, 2013 at the Sts. Peter & Paul Banquet Hall in Scarborough at 231 Milner Ave. (Markham Rd. & 401).

A new component, Ti Madame, is expected to form part of the pageant this year.

Public Relations Manager of the pageant, Athenia Benjamin, said the event intends “to dazzle the multicultural communities of Canada with an array of Dominican talent including a display of our cultural heritage, performances of traditional dances and showcasing at the event of the National dress “Wob Dwiyet’”.

She said it forms part of the observance of Dominica’s 35th Independence celebrations.

She stated that the Wob Dwiyet Pageant will feature eight contestants of Dominican descent/origin.

“They will be judged on the promotion of the individual communities they represent, the Madame Wob Dwiyet traditional dress and cultural dance, public speaking and poise,” Benjamin said.

The winner will be awarded a trip to Dominica for the Independence celebration, she noted.

The eight Ti Madames will make an introductory appearance and well as appearances in Wob Dwiyet traditional dress and cultural dance performances.

The contestants will be introduced in a future news item.

What a shame that these four individuals appeared to have hijacked these events from the CDOA. I understand that one of the contestants is the daughter of a member of the CDOA executive whom the CDOA had sent to Dominica to learn cultural dances so that she could teach young Dominicans in Toronto. What a backstabber! Shame on both of them! If the organizers are so talented then they should get their own ideas and not ride on the backs of others. The Dominican community in Toronto is too small for these divisive acts which serve no other purpose than to confuse folks. Come on, shake off your shackles and stop the destructive behavior reminiscent of the days of slavery. Put your efforts and energy towards building the community not tearing it down.
Raymond Lawrence, why would you participate in something so divisive?
I can assure you that no member of my family and there are many of us, nor any of my friends will be attending this function.

      Shocking!! Absolutely Shocking!!
The people responsible for posting this piece of trash online are not Dominicans at heart. You should be a shamed of yourselves as C.D.O.A Executives, members, or simply, Dominicans. Someone is emotionally disturbed and (or) “very” angry and should be advised to seek professional help. Are we all standing on common ground? Are we concerned citizens? Are we patriotic? If we are, then let’s get off our High Horses and serve our Country with diligence, honesty and last but not least, “Agape Love.” We must learn to serve and have a common goal for our Community and Country. It’s because of the mentality of people like you that prevents the C.D.O.A from growing in leaps and bounds. At the present time, the C.D.O.A. lacks the vision and ability to embrace all Dominicans.

      Absolute Power Corrupts.
We need new leadership, new ideas, different attitudes and a common goal so we can restore the values and principles of what the C.D.O.A should stand for and not be so caught up with our own personal gain. It’s very sad that we can’t put our differences aside. Coming together is a beginning, Keeping together is progress, and working together is success. United we STAND, Divided we FALL. Working against each other is a form of apartheid.
      Enough is Enough!
Stop the NONSENSE!!! Keep your personal feelings to yourselves. We do not need this crap. Your behavior will only drive your people away. Dominicans are getting very disenchanted with this propaganda. And please do not think that the carriers of this disgusting news look any better in the eyes of our fellow Dominicans. It only creates a breeding ground for gossip and lies and if I might add, you are not the victim but the instigator

      For love of Country

Eh, eh, It seems like My Fair Lady touched a nerve. Now stop pontificating, stop the rhetoric, get off your soap box and do something worthwhile with your life. Let us hear your fresh ideas and I don’t mean Ms. Big and Beautiful – the government will not give you any more grants for that. We all know there is no more personal gain to be had from the CDOA after all, “Nenen mor pas ni fielle accore”. You and your cohorts are no better than those whom you choose to castigate.

    Admin,

Why have you not published my comments? Dominicans need to know what is going on. This is not what it seems.

You need to get Jacinta David and Regina Walsh to work with your Ti Madame. They are the organisers of Ti Matador show which has been in existence for ten years. Get in contact with them. They are from the Performing Arts Workshop – Dominica Group.

Why would these two ladies want to get involved in this cochonie? This is just a self-serving exercise and has nothing to do with promoting Dominica’s culture. Just revisit their efforts of last year – it was indeed very embarrassing. Badly made Wob Wiyets, non-traditional accessories and footwear. One would have thought “the designer” would have known better but then again, she needs to first know her culture.

For real, I was there. It wqs cochonie for true. Contestants were wearing sandals with their Wob Dwiyets. Sissy Caudeiron would turn in her grave to see the mess. The Wobs were malfete and quite unflattering and the contestants looked like they were wearing all the cheap jewelry from Dollarama. They did not display any grace in carrying the Wobs which is a crucial part of the pageant. At one time the woman who won had her skirt up to her chest!
