Tasia Floissac on Friday launched her last two platform projects as Miss Dominica 2016.

The first project is an event dubbed “Queens and Tins” and will involve past Miss Dominicas and the other members of the royal family giving back. The other will see her crew cooking 75 plates of food and distributing them to vagrants and homeless people.

“Queens and Tins” is a food drive that will take place on December 3rd outside the Prevost Cinemall, opposite H.H.V Whitchurch and Company Limited from 9:30 am to 2:00 pm. The general public is being asked to come out and make a small contribution of non- perishable items or cash for the less fortunate.

“I have always said since I launched my platform, I feel that people with titles or positions have a very special responsibility to give back, especially to the less fortune and really just make a difference in our country,” Floissac said while addressing the launching ceremony at the Dominica Festivals Office in Roseau . “So, although I may only be reigning for one year I think you are forever a Queen and you can forever make a difference.”

She said past queens have been invited to participate in the drive.

“We have invited past Queens to join our fund raising event,” she explained. “We have actually invited the Miss Teen, the Princess, the Mother’s Queen, basically members of the royal family of 2016 and 10-20 years back who still want to give back because once you are a Queen you are always a Queen.”

Floissac stated that the foods collected will be distributed to four communities on island which will be decided by the Queens during their next meeting.

“One of the communities that we most definitely want to target is the Kalinago Territory,” she revealed.

“What we are hoping is that we get to spend a day in the Kalinago Territory, maybe have a day event and also present the donations that we collected from the Queens & Tins event,” she noted. “A lot of what we collect, at least half will go to the Kalinago Territory and then we distribute the rest to the other communities.”

Floissac said she intended to do a bigger project during the course of her reign, “but really because of time constrains and just having a busy schedule it never really happened.”

The Convent High School (CHS) student council contributed food items to the team during the launching ceremony. The items were presented by Head Girl of the CHS, Elleen Commodore.

Floissac also explained the other project organized by the Queen’s Crew.

“The Queen’s Crew actually took on their own and decided to have a project and it is really called a Random Act of Kindness,” she said. “What they are going to be doing is that the crew will be cooking 75 plates of breakfast and they will be going around distributing breakfast to vagrants and homeless people on the streets.”

But reign ending soon and is now platform launching ? Papa met ONLY IN DOMINICA. We really upside down. 9 Months after you win ( let me leave that rest in pieces } it is like a baby just born then. We must do better than that. Timing is key and public perception can make or break a legacy. It begs the question what is more important pageantry or platform. They are not mutually exclusive hence with better planning and professionalism set objectives could be realized.

Irrespective of the crowning results bacchanal You made us damn proud. Am not a fan per se but as a DA REP I could die for you when I saw you crushed the opposition in the overs. You came very close on other occasions but I thought you were robed at least one regional crown.

All in all you did self and country well. Good platforms but launch gap was too wide.

A great use of your platform, I think you just became my favorite Queen.

    This is a wonderful initiative.

Let us pitch in to help this worthy cause, more so at Christmas, the season for giving and loving.

I will definitely bring in my share of non-perishable goods.
Merry Christmas. Christ, He is the reason for the season.

Great going Tas. but i think you should open up to allow past queen contestants or past pageant contestants to participate… i also believe that this would be a great time for this year’s queen contestants to participate in their first community give-back.
