Registration opens for Mr. Dominica, Mr. Teen Dominica competitions

Mr. Dominica 2012 Nigel Peters

Organizers of the Mr. Dominica competition have said that registration for next year’s show is now open.

They also said registration is also open for the first ever Mr. Teen Dominica.

Mr. Dominica 2013 will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2013 and organizers say it has now become a staple of carnival celebrations on the island.

Registration is open to young men between the ages of 20 and 35.

The contestants will compete in magnificent wear, talent, beach wear, formal wear and question and answer segments.

The first-ever Mr Dominica competition was held earlier this year and according to the organizers it received tremendous accolades and was rated as the best show ever.

Nigel Peters of Portsmouth emerged victorious from among a group of seven contestants.

The search is also on for talented male teens, between 13 and 19, to compete in the first ever Mr. Teen Dominica.  The teens will compete in several segments, including introductory speech, magnificent wear, talent, casual wear and formal wear.

Mr. Teen Dominica is scheduled for Friday, January 25, 2013.

Registration forms for both shows are available at the Dominica Festivals Committee, located on the ground floor of the Financial Centre and Fadelle’s on Kennedy Avenue, Roseau.

Deadline for registration is September 30, 2012.

I believe dats a great idea to allow the males to display their talent. People always have some negativity to bring up when it cms to those things. Men do ur do and enjoy the carnival season

Young men in Dominica have to be motivated in soo many things, we have been kept out from being bold and making something of ourselves that if we sit at the roadside and smoke marijuanna, drink rum and have 10 children then we are men. what about being a true ambassador for your country, educate yurself, being an entrepreneur ? If we choose any of these attributes then we are classed as gay.

Can someone tell me what being a real man is? because i’m confused.

I guess nowadays if a man believes that something is not for men and should be left for woman like pargentry he is considered homophobic. I guess nowadays if a man dont have woman like behavior he not a real man. Nowadays if you look down on men who insist on behaving like woman then something is wrong with you. Well call this man what ever you like but this show is a bull sheet idea of a woman who wants to tell men how to be men. The sad part of is that “men” or some human with manly feature falling for it

I guess, nowadays, if you don’t try to educate yourself as to whether or not the “differences” in behavior between men and women are real biological facts or cultural creations or a mix of the two and decide instead to believe in a simplistic model of the world in which all men behave one way and all women behave another, you can think you’re smart enough to leave a comment.

That was sarcasm. In short: gender is a complex topic. All men do not behave in certain ways; culture dictates a lot of that behavior. You cannot assume that a person is gay or straight purely on their behavior or appearance, but only on their desires. And it does not matter what a person’s orientation is, anyway. Only uncivilized fundamentalists think so.

Your sense of manhood should not be based on what others are doing. They choose to live their lives a certain way. You cultivate self-esteem and be what you are. You live your life and be tolerant of others who choose to do things that you would not do. OKAY. You have a right to define your own life as long as you do not harm others. Others, too, have the right to define their lives.

You should not be basing your sense of manhood or who you are on what others are doing or not doing, You ought to cultivate sufficient self-estimate to be comfortable with who you are. Everyone has a right to define who they are as long as they are not harming others. So, please be tolerant. Because a man appears on stage dancing and modeling does not him make less of a man than you. You are not comfortable doing these things, that’s you but don’t berate or question others’ personhood or masculinity because they are comfortable doing things you won’t do. Atleast, these men are comfortable in their skins. Are you?

*sees something he doesn’t agree with*

*decides without evidence that the whole world is engaged in a conspiracy against him instead of investigating the issue himself to see if he might be wrong to disagree with it*

They need to open a female calypso show so that Mr. Dominica can take his Queen. And to the leading lady who organizes this, please do not pick your winner before the show. You are the boss, yes, but you ran your two other organizers away. You seem like you like to control control control. I went this year and i will attend next year. What happens behind the curtains is not the audience’s business but please, let’s have a un-controversial event this time. The back row was cracking up during talent and swim wear!

I think the DFC should consider having a calypso queen show so Mr. Dominica can have his queen and the calypso queen shall have her calypso king!!!! The teen king already has his teen queen ehhh. I will be Dominica just in time, will not miss this!!!! Heard of the controversy last year but all publicity is good publicity!!!

Really? So why are most of the articles about gay people filled with comments about beating gays, killing gays, how gays are not humans, how homosexuality is only in humans, etc.? It may be true that some of the more violent comments are censored, but a lot of bad–and untrue–material about them certainly DOES appear in the comments on DNO.

And same-sex rights is a big issue in the Caribbean right now. There is every reason for DNO to have lots of articles about it. This is not an issue anyone can or should just ignore, since it involves human rights.
