Seven ladies from across the island will take to the stage to compete for the title of Mothers Carnival Queen 2016.

They officially presented to the public on Saturday 21st November 2015 and had their contracts signed.

The show will be held at the Arawak House of Culture on Saturday 30th January 2016 at 8:00 pm.

The contestants are Tara Oscar, 25, representing Portsmouth; Glennita Daniel, 25, representing Silver Lake and Kingshill; Latisha Lockhart, 18, representing Newtown and Pointe Mitchel; Erna Reynolds, 24, representing Massacre and Petite Soufriere; Christine Boyer, 27, representing Fond Cole and Nicole Celaire, 28, representing Kingshill.

Originally seven were expected to participate but Lianna Joseph has since pulled out.

The contestants will compete in Opening Number, Talent Performance, Swimwear, Traditional Ole Masquerade Wear, Evening Wear and Question and Answer Round.

“I can affirm to you that they will be making remarkable appearances in the 2016 mothers queen show and will be making a representative of the mothers across the island,” one of the organizers of the event, Claudine Charles, said at the contestant’s launch at the Calypso House.

She said the show aims to portray the traditional costume of Carnival, to highlight the talents of the mothers, contribute towards the carnival industry in Dominica and to be able to give back to needy members of the community.

In that regard, Charles explained, the show has, since its inception in 2013, given back to the community. She stated that in 2013 the Government Printery and the Operation Youth Quake were assisted, in 2014 the Social Center benefitted, in 2015, they gave back to the Convent Preparatory School to assist with their school eating area and in 2016 they intend to assist the Education Trust Fund.

She also called on the local private sector to come on board to sponsor those who have not yet been sponsored.

The contestants are being trained by Miss Dominica 2015 Odessa Elie.

The tone of people response to each other in these comments reflect that we have to teach children from young to have respect for each other.
    Respect people opinion.
We should live together peacefully even if we differ…. you can express your opinion without being so disrespectful.
and please remember that “beauty is in the eye of the beholder”. so what is beautiful to one person is not beautiful to another.
By whose standard are we measureing beauty? European standards? when we are a mixed nation..???

beautiful women for ladies with kids they are still very beautiful. Why don’t you bring your mother your wife your side chick and your sisters since to think they are more beautiful choops.
we can stand by and criticize all we want but it is not easy to perform before an audience hats of to the people who come forward and do so.

Where is with the Dominica that I was born and grew up in, the days preparing for Christmas preparing our homes fixing , painting and decorating , have our fruits soaking for the Black Cake our Sorrel and Ginger Beer. Looking forward to go shopping Christmas eve, then to Midnight Mass and Party after till day break. DON’T WE CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS ANY MORE, THE BIRTH OF CHRIST?
After that storm it is right into Carnival Bachanal. I love Dominica I visit every year, but sometimes I am Happy that I do not live there permanently.

Hmmmm… I really think this dude is rite. That’s a time when islands shows off the beauty of there women. It is not just for domestic reason, but for the world to see. So I really think they could do better, instead of picking up any girl that showed up..

Now is the time to teach your children in the ways of the Lord, not show off your bodies on stage. Repent and be baptized for the time is near.

You lie, these young women are beautiful. Go hide your ugly inside and outside self. I looked at the pictures and thought what a bunch of teenage moms, just to read their ages and I am still shocked that they are even 24 & 27. What is their crime? having babies and not abortions? refusing to roll over and die? To each his own. If they decide to take part in a pageant let them be, if you want to read your bible or wear a hair net so be it also. It’s all this intolerance and haughty behaviour that has the world in turmoil.
