The man at the centre of a concert, which has now become very controversial in Dominica, has spoken out for the first time on the matter.
Tommy Lee Sparta, who is expected to headline a concert in Portsmouth this Sunday, said despite the attempts to “stop my flow” by religious leaders here, the show will go on.
The artiste has become the talk of the town over the last few weeks following calls by the Catholic and evangelical communities here to boycott the concert.
These religious bodies staged a protest in Portsmouth two weeks ago claiming that his music is satanic and promotes demonic activities.
But Tommy Lee, who calls himself “Uncle Demon,” told DNO that this is not the case and the religious groups have it all wrong.
“The demonic thing was when I initially started out in the music but now I have changed it up. The sad thing is that now it so coming to haunt me. I am just playing a character and now I am trying to change this…” he said.
According to him, dancehall artistes usually take characters and most of times it should be taken at face value.
“Everybody in Dancehall plays a character. Bounty Killer is called the ‘killer’ and he isn’t a murderer,” he stated. “Mad Cobra isn’t a snake. Vybz Kartel calls himself ‘Daddy Devil’ and he isn’t a devil. Bennie man calls himself ‘a doctor’ and he isn’t a real doctor…”
He said many of these characters mean nothing.
“We don’t mean anything. There are a lot of demonic games and demonic shows that Christians watch and play..” he said.
According to Tommy Lee, the religious leaders are simply trying to “stop my food”.
“I don’t see what is the problem for them to try and stop my food. I am just working to provide for my kids. I don’t mean any harm to anyone,” he said.
Meantime religious leaders here have signaled they might plan another protest ahead of Sunday’s concert.
It’s sad how many blind and stupid people we apparently have living right here in D/A. To actually sit behind your computer and support this commess?? Uncle Demon??? WHAT THE **** IS THAT????

I’m not particularly supporting one side over the other in this situation, but it’s shockingly surprising to me the number of comments that show no faith, trust or even a little respect for our religious leaders on the island. I thought Dominica was a majority Christian country. Where are the Christians? In this modern age voices are heard in more electronic ways. Protesting on the streets will help, but you’ve got to use all the mediums available to you.
I’m just a bit shocked at all the comments that seem ridicule the people who are supposed to be the island’s moral compass.
People are getting wise. Its better to know than to believe. Its belief that kept black people in slavery. Religion was one of the devises used. So when you call yourself a christian, and you wish bad for another man, regardless of what he calls himself or how he dresses, how does God look at you? What would Jesus do is the question. We can only speculate.
Our Lord Jesus Christ expects and is pleased that we will stand up and speak out loud and clear against immorality and one who professes to be a friend and follower of his enemy, the enemy of our souls to perform in a Christian country to also Christian people.
Something is wrong with those who approve him and plan to attend this show including those who criticize those who oppose his presence.
It’s time that we bring some real music and real musicians to the Nature Isle. Music that will inspire young musicians and song writers to produce something that’s international. I have tried not to be part of this situation here, but now I am reading, “religion”,

The Jews did not know who Jesus was, because He would not live by the rules and laws of their “religion”–which was plagued with human wisdom and philosophy; and so they put Him into the hands of the “Gentiles” to do their dirty work of crucifying Him–so to satisfy their nature of self-righteousness.
As Holy Spirit taught me, from the day God, the Lord, connected to me, He made sure that I understood His wisdom that:
“Christianity is not a “religion”! A Christian is called to be a “disciple” of Jesus Christ–putting His attitude and conducts of Love on display to the world, as they maintain a personal or intimate “relationship” with Him–the Lord God who lives in His Person of Love–Jesus Christ.
Therefore we hear Jesus saying at Revelation 3:19– “Behold I stand at the door and knock, if anyone should hear My voice and open for Me, I will come in to eat with him and him with Me” How much more intimate can a relationship like that be?
Therefore if the Churches who are against this young man–concerning his practice or lifestyle– are doing so in the name of “religion”, then what is the point?
God wants nothing to do with “religion”. And so those Churches and the lifestyle of this young man, is like six in one and half a dozen in the other–it is still the things of the world, in the “church house” or in the things of the world in the “social club house”; the ways of the world, in the kingdom of the world.
However, let it be known that in the end a “kingdom divided against itself cannot stand” And that is what the whole situation seems to be–as far as I am concerned.
For there are times we need to just: Be still and to know that God has the “Supernatural Power” all we need is faith and patience to what Him demonstrate His Power–as human beings we are too hasty to interfere.
God has said: “No flesh shall glory in His presence” That is what we human beings are seeking–most of the time–when we interfere by our own strength instead of humbly calling to God for deliverance.
I am young Dominican who knows and has a good relationship with God. Anyone who has a good relationship with God or atleast knows the demonic signs, symbols and interpretation of words would know that Tommy Lee is not just putting on a show. He may not be aware of it. But any unclean vessel is an open way for demons to live in. A character is not just what you say to call yourself but what you become. The criticisms and protests against Tommy Lee may have made him think of his way of life and encouraged him to want to change. They have done him a great favor. I completely understand where the religious groups are coming from because it has been a while since some of these Jamaican artists have been singing and feeding filth to our youths and disrespecting women in general.
The organisers could have brought Jahcure, Chronixx, Taurrus Riley, Junior Gong and the list of conscious artist go on. Its baffling as to why they could not bring someone who could empower our young generation.
In the same vein there are other things which are much more detrimental to our youth and our country. I listen to the radio and every time there is an advert break, I hear about some brand of alcohol being advertised, morning noon and night. Does anyone know how many deaths on the road, accidents, fights, and downright lawlessness is related to the consumption of alcohol because the public is constantly reminded to drink or buy alcohol.
This I think is something which needs to be looked at and maybe that’s one of the things the church can focus on because you and I know that this has a much greater impact on our society than Tommy Lee Sparta visiting our shores for one night
