The triumph of hope and progress over darkness and backwardness is best captured in the words of the first stanza of one of our favourite Christmas Carols “O Come, Divine Messiah”, in this way:
O Come, Divine Messiah,
The world in silence waits the day
When hope shall sing its triumph
And sadness flee away.
Sweet Saviour, haste
Come, come to earth
Dispel the night and show thy face.
And bid us hail the dawn of grace.
These words speak of the desire of the human spirit to break free of all the bonds that hold back happiness and development, and thus usher in a new day when the sun will shine through all efforts to lift the development of the human condition and when all can say with sincerity, “Yes, life is worth living”.
At this time of the year, Christians the world over prepare, in a wide variety of cultural traditions, to commemorate and celebrate the virgin birth of the one true Saviour and Liberator, the man Jesus, the Christ. He is God, in the form of human flesh, true man, and His mission, which continues today in the community of those who believe He is Lord and Saviour, was to teach the way to a new life – a life of justice, peace and love – with the assurance of everlasting life to those who were faithful to this way of living.
Christmas has become for us, a period of waiting and preparing to receive He who was born of the Virgin Mary. It is a period of reflection, cleansing and adorning to welcome the birth of the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords on Christmas Day.
Christians believe that Christ was born in a lowly stable, for there was no room for his expectant mother in the hotels of the day. For the individual Christian, this period of preparation is intended to get rid of all the garbage, the unforgiveness, the hurts and disappointments that stand in the way of Christ becoming alive in our hearts and steering us closer and closer to His kingdom.
My friends, the truth about the Christmas story, is that the epic entrance of God into the world as Christ, is not merely to be taken as an event that occurred over two thousand years ago, but is a phenomenon and a reality that continues to be alive and active today among those who are Christians.
In Dominica, Christmas is the time when the spirit of giving, sharing and reaching out, especially to the less fortunate, spontaneously overflows. The sharing of Christmas gifts, exchanging Christmas cards, gathering together for a Christmas meal, have become a tradition, drawing individuals and families together in an atmosphere of joy and goodwill. This giving connects us directly with the love of God, who gave His only begotten Son so that those who believe in Him may have eternal life.
Viewed in the right perspective, the ultimate purpose of any government is to do its part to make the spirit of Christmas a tangible, daily reality for everyone. The government which you have given me the honour to lead, will continue to work tirelessly to live up to the standard of trust you have placed in us. We will spare no effort to so transform Dominica, that there is equality of opportunity for all, and the vulnerable and helpless protected.
In spite of the challenges with which you may be confronted this Christmas, it is my hope that your spirit will never be crushed, that you and the members of your family see even better days ahead, because of the programmes for Dominica`s advancement which, with God`s help and guidance, will unfold to your benefit in the New Year.
As the year draws closer to its end, we thank God for sparing us from the effects of storms and hurricanes and for His watching over our country and our families. We thank him for the gift of geothermal energy and I ask you to pray that in the New Year we will see our plans for this resource coming to fruition.
On your behalf, I send Christmas greetings and say thank you to the many friends and benefactors who have supported the development agenda of Dominica over the past year.

Prime Minister I can embrace all that you have said in this message above—concerning the birth of Jesus Christ. We know that Jesus was born of a woman, in that He called Himself the Son of Man—however, by faith, we are to believe that He was also the Living God, Christ of Love, for He told us through His disciples: “I am in the Father and the Father is in Me, anyone who sees Me has seen the Father”.
The prophet Isaiah told us that He would be called Emmanuel—meaning God with us—more than 800 years before He entered this world in flesh and bones–all of this is spoken in the Bible–better known as the Word of God.
Christ is not a surname for Jesus, Christ is Eternal Spirit of Love, Truth, and Holiness—Love is the stature of Life, the Light that quickens the dead or sleeping soul, by the faith of possessor, to come awake to the Life in Jesus Christ. “For in Him there was Life and the Life was the Light of men”
Jesus was a perfect Man because His Mind was not that of humankind—which enters the world in its carnal condition—Jesus’ Mind was the Mind of Love—the Mind of God Almighty, who is of Spirit and Truth–Eternal Spirit, who is Christ.
It is unfortunate that the majority of Christians has connected the “birth of Jesus” with the event of this time—known as Christmas and its festivities, along with its commercial aspects—this event was in existence long before Jesus was born—it was a pagan (Gentile) holiday; this means that the people Israel, God chosen people, did not observe that holiday and its festivity, whatever we want to call it.
The other thing is that Christianity did not exist until after Jesus was ascended into heaven. In the days of Jesus people were either Jews or Gentiles–the lived by the rules and laws of religion, which intensely displeased God.
That is the reason God promised to build His Church by the Power of Holy Spirit—Jeremiah 31: 31-34–hence Jesus told His disciples, before His ascension: “Stay in Jerusalem until you receive the Promise of the Father, which I will send you”.
The coming of the Holy Spirit, on the Day of Pentecost, which is spoken in the Book of Acts, is the Promise of the Father that Jesus talked about—that is what it means of the belief that Jesus brought us the “New Covenant of Life”—this is the concept that Christians have failed to understand, the reason they embrace the things of religion–which is actually good works without faith; God is unhappy with those people.
The Book of acts tells us that Jesus’ disciples were called Christians at Antioch—which means that the Church of Jesus Christ was not born until after Jesus suffered and died, was resurrected and ascended into heaven. This also means that the concept of Christianity, is not of religion; but its practice demands that it believers maintain a consistent and dedicated
“intimate” love relationship with God the Father by faith in the Son, God’s Person of Love who is Jesus Christ”.
The Church is those who “worship” God and
“fellowship” together—for His glory—through faith and in Spirit and Truth—the house of worship and fellowship is not the Church.
God’s Holy Spirit began to reign in us and among us 10 days after the ascension of Jesus Christ—50 days after His resurrection. On the first day of His reign only 3000 people were anointed as believers in Jesus Christ.
The Nations of Christianity grew and developed by the Power of Holy Spirit through men and woman whom God anointed with various spiritual gifts—to do His work of Salvation and Reconciliation to His nature of Holiness—as He build His Church, who will be presented to Jesus Christ just as a Bride is presented to her husband.
Therefore the message of the Bible is the message of Love, which is Life itself; Christmas and its festivities is not of the Bible it is a thing of “religion” the concept which is based on the wisdom and philosophy of man.
That is the reason God lamented about His chosen people when He said: “This people honor Me with their lips but their heart is far from Me and in vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men” Jesus also spoke that lament in the Gospels
What we who claim to be Christians need to do today is to make sure that we are ready to receive Jesus at His second coming, when He will begin the intense process of bringing to an end: evil, wickedness, strife and discord; abomination, and all sorts of unrighteousness—
that is the Living Hope, which all people should maintain; for Hope is from God, it is assurance of Life for us—God cannot disappoint us.
Hence Salvation and Reconciliation to God demands immediate attention—it is an attention that most prolong until our days in this world come to an end or until the return of Jesus Christ—whichever is first for us.
The return of Jesus Christ is what should be acclaimed among us. As Christians we believe that Jesus came to this earth in the form of man, but He is no longer the Baby in a manger.
As a Man Jesus suffered and died that mankind might live. And so Life in Jesus Christ demands that we walk in the Spirit, through the practice of Love —the ways of our God of Love in His Person, Jesus Christ. This practice is for every minute of our existence in this world—not just for a few days of the year.
My dear PM I wish u and Ur family the same during this season,Dominica is a much better place now since u became the PM u are truly a man who look out for the poor and needy of Ur country.The majority of Dominicans support u and the job that u are doing may God continue blessing u and Ur family.

Not that I particularly like to critize but there really seems to be a disconnect between the Prime Minister and the people. The message lacks emotion and is rather impersonal. I would expect some warm greetings from the first family and a little more emotion to sort of tap into the Dominican spirit in a more profound way. The message sounds too professional and a less appealing version of the sermon on the mount. Roosevelt Skerrit has clearly lost his touch and his national appeal. Merry Christmas comrade.

I am a roots man who grew up in poverty and worked hard in Belles Village from childhood days carrying bananas and many other agricultural products on my head (calot tete), bare-footed, crossing Layou River, and JO JO, too much to talk about my rough childhood / teenage experience. However, at the Age of 18 years, I decided enough is enough and joined the Dominica Police Force. 7 years after serving DPF, I moved to Houston, Texas, USA, where I got married. Thereafter, I worked hard in a McDonalds Distribution Warehouse for 10 years during which I pursued college studies and graduated with a Business Management / Supervisory Management Degree.
Moreover, I moved from the hard Physical Warehouse work and seek employment in Corporate Security Management and found a great job. Amen!
JO JO, I am now 18 years in in the Corporate Security Management Business in the City Of Houston Texas working for a decent salary and I am extremely satisfied. Furthermore, my wife, Yvette, and I took some risky chances in real estate investments and it turned out to be successful.
Jo Jo, My point is, many of us Dominicans came from poverty and tough times but our ambition, aspiration, determination, courage, and good judgment made us successful.

Vincent, you give an honest answer and I like that. Where you are you may be impressed with visible things like coastal road, stadium, palace, state college but believe me, all that is built with money we have to pay back to the Chinese, who built it using their own workers. Most Local Dominican people are poor, I see and smell that every day and the atmosphere is miserable. Something is rotten and the Govt. has to deal with that before anything else.Skerrit is out of the country more and more, as if the place where he was born has no attraction for him. He does not interact with the people very well and everywhere he goes he is surrounded by bodyguards like Toton Macoute. I supported the guy when he was first elected but feel let down, cheated and betrayed and angry.

I learned in catechism that “O Come Divine Messiah” is actually an Advent hymn and not a Christmas carol. And, Advent is the season of preparation for Christmas not the celebration of it. Nevertheless, the Dear Leader’s Christmas message is a very apt reflection for our times. For, it reminds us that the Divine Messiah came in meekness, not with arrogance and pride. His birth in a stable with sheep and cattle set the example of simplicity. He never even had a modest house; he never flaunted a Rolex watch; he did not have an army of body guards to take him from point A to point B;he never yelled at his disciples; he did not bad talk his followers; and most importantly, he never had any desire to get even with anyone. He taught us to hope and contemplate:
O come Divine Messiah, come to the people of Dominica…O Thou whom nations sigh for, whom priest and prophet long foretold- break the captive fetters and bring the wayward home.

Though I agree with most of the sentiments expressed in your message, let us remember no matter what we read and hear about Christmas we are not instructed, or told by Jehovah God, or Jesus Christ himself anywhere in the Bible to celebrate Jesus Birth.
As a matter of fact; the exact date of Jesus birth is not know to man okay! However, due to the season, and time of the year when the Bright Star was seen, religious zealots pagans as a matter of fact invented Christmas: Christmas is indeed a commercialized pagan holiday, and has nothing to do with love of God.
The most important instruction we have from Jesus, which he ordered Christians, and believers in him to do is found in the Book of Luke 22:19 where we read. “And he took bread, and gave thanks, and break it, and gave unto them, saying. This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.” That instruction should be observed at the time of Passover each year, which should be in April of each year.
If I am wrong perhaps someone endowed with a gift of interpreting the word of God would like to correct me, so be it; however, I do not need anyone who went and was not called by God to preach to come with any nonsense to try to confuse the issue because the word Christmas is not, cannot, and will never be found in the written word of God the Bible.
Now I know the Bible teaches plenty about the Birth of Jesus: from the time of his birth to the time he lay down his life for the remission of our sins; nevertheless, that has nothing to do with Christmas!
In regards to the first sentence in your message regarding “progress over darkness and backwardness” we can limit that to our very own circumstances, and our country Dominica. The lack of progress, and backwardness is not unique to the rest of the world. It is however, unique to Dominica. It is a Dominica thing caused by our political mentality.
We block progress simply because we have the power to do so wether we are in government or not, when some merchants exercise more power in a country, dictating what can be done, who gets what, and others go without than people who are elected to run things and do what is in the best interest of the people and country, there must be a lack of progress and backwardness, hence darkness must lurk, must lume over the nation.
We have become so accustom to our lack and backwardness, that we lack the will to do anything that will bring about any significant change. We can talk about love until Jesus returns in person, and believe it or not he will return, however, unless we do something physically, apart from simply talk about love at this time of the year to eliminate poverty, and backwardness in our country, our talk about love will do no good or help the poor; talk cannot replace physical actions.

Christmas matters not to me, since Christmas is not about God, and Jesus Christ no matter how sincere the world is about it.
I concern myself with people everyday, care for people everyday, I love people everyday of the year, and not only on December, 25th, I give to people most of the time when they ask, only because of the love of God in me.
Christmas is a pagan, commercialized holiday, which has nothing to do with Jesus. In the first place Jesus is no longer a baby in a manger, and he never instructed the world, the pagans to celebrate his birthday. Most people will not like my views on the subject, to each his own; however, I know the truth, and the truth has set me free; the word of God as written in the Bible is the truth, I only try to follow his truth.

So where in the Bible did you read that information which you mentioned here, about the Passover. Don’t you know that as you accept the observance of the Passover in April, you are doing exactly what the majority of Christians are doing through their acceptance that Jesus’ birth is the reason for this thing of December?
I do agree that the celebration, which everyone observe, in the month of December, was a pagan (gentile) celebration with the name “Christmas”.
But that celebration was in place long before Jesus came to this world. It is called a pagan thing–meaning the celebration of the Gentiles–those who were “not” of the chosen people of God Almighty, the Israelites, before and throughout Jesus’ days on earth. This means that the Israelites–God’s chosen people at the time– did not observe that celebration because it was not an ordination to them from God, their Lord, Jehovah.
And so if we contend against the celebrations of December–that it is not associated with the birth of Jesus–neither should we accept that the “Passover Week” happened in April.
For we have concrete information in the Bible–yes indeed! There is a whole lot of information of the Passover, and its celebration, in the Bible in both the Old and New Testaments. God had ordained that celebration to the Israelite in memory of His deliverance for them from their bondage of slavery in Egypt.
It is a fact that Jesus was crucified on a day of the Passover week–the “Good Friday” thing is another contention–3 days and 3 nights–the sign of Jonah, according to Jesus is not possible from Friday evening to early Sunday morning.
However, Jesus’ death during the Passover week, is the reason His body represented the Lamb which was slaughtered for the cleansing of the sins of mankind that by faith man might receive Life in Jesus Christ.
This Life, when it is in us, is known as Salvation and Reconciliation to the Holiness of God Almighty, Eternal Spirit, who is “Christ” in the Son, the Man named Jesus
Unless we understand all of these things about God Almighty, Eternal Spirit, who is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit–one God in Essence, we have a long way to go in claiming knowledge of Him; and yet Jesus said: “Concrete knowledge of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is evidence of Eternal Life” for the person or persons who have gained such knowledge.

However I referred you to the month in the Bible which is noted as “Nissan” on a modern day calendar I believe the name of the month is April, better yet what the Roman Catholic Church celebrates as Easter, is the Passover, or should be the Passover.

There are other months in the Bible identified by name in Jesus day, the only difference in out modern day the names are changed, however if you are a Biblical scholar which you are not you will not have a clue of what I am talking about.
So, in order to aid you speedily, I suggest the first Jehovah witness you encounter ask them if they can identify which month of the year is Nissan, and ask them to identify the rest of the months, biblical names converted to modern day names to you.

But today I am also reminded that it is the anniversary of the arson and attempted murder of mr. & mrs. Emmanuel at their home, which remains a shameful stain on our nation’s conscience. My sadness can not flee away until this darkness is dispelled and for the true face to be shown.
