The Dominica Social Justice and Peace Committee Inc. has acknowledged the calypsos ‘Baby Machine’ and ‘Murderer’ for speaking to the defense of God’s image.
According to the committee the songs, which were popular during the just concluded Carnival season, “addressed the evil of the Culture of Death and call for creating a Culture of Life.”
For the past 21 years the committee has been observing the Catholic Church’s World Respect Life Day, which falls on January 22.
Some of the events for observing the day include school assemblies, TV promotions, radio talks, debates, publications, concerts, marches and so on.
One of the highlights during the Carnival Season is the selection and recognition of a Calypso which speaks to the defense of “God’s Image.”
According to the committee both calypsos did just that, however one will be selected as the overall winner.
The winner will receive a $1,000 prize and will be announced at a press conference hosted by the Dominica National Youth Council.
In his 2014 World Respect Life Day Message, Bishop Gabriel Malzaire explained the day “seeks to highlight the absolute respect, which is due to every human person and all human life. We cannot overstate our responsibility for preservation, protect, and promotion of human life at every stage of its existence. The value of this annual observance is further augmented when we see atrocities leveled against human life in any of its dimensions.”
“Baby Machine” was sung by Leona Peter and penned by Pat Aaron, while “Murderer” was written and sung by Mighty Omee (Kerwin Casimir).
What an absurd thing to believe that such songs are speaking in the defense of God’s image.These songs have nothing to do with God’s image but only to promote an agenda of The Catholic Church.These songs have nothing to do addressing the evil of the Culture of Death and call for creating a Culture of Life.Why is it that addressing the evil of culture in our society has to be defined by such organization calling it self The Dominica Social Justice and Peace Committee Inc. Why a press conference hosted by the Dominica National Youth Council to make presentations to the winner of a song promoting an agenda of The Catholic Church, It begs me to ask the question is the National Youth Council under the arms of The Catholic Church.It looks like deception is every where around us.
Both songs have a nice easy beat to them. Both artists have very good voices and did there songs justice. But Baby Machine degrades women, it does not uplift them; or helps them from the situation they have found themselves in. It does not discourage women from finding themselves in a similar situation.
The song says nothing in preventing young women from having sex, premarital , protected or unprotected or from having several children with several different fathers. As a matter of fact it seems to encourage it and that she should be proud of it. I doubt women feel that way.
It shows no responsibility on the part of the fathers . only the women once again. As if they should be proud having all the babies all by themselves and the fathers are wherever they are, void of any responsibility.
We all know why Baby Machine was penned. Maybe it is a good song for Carnival but sends the wrong message. The Murderer song is a much better song and deals with your conscience again we know why the song was sung and it has some truth in it.
Baby Machine on the other hand in my view is strictly political and degrades women. We need songs that uplifts women not degrades them.

A responsible woman will not have an abortion because she does not want a child. There are many contraceptives that are available to women. They need to start taking control of their bodies before the fact and not after. When I was a teenager I would go to jolly’s and buy my condom. I was not ashamed as a woman. I did not depend on my boyfriend to protect my body. Another thing i discover is that most women do not understand how the menstrual cycle works. ABORTION IS MURDER.
There is the safe period. Doctors are supposed to know and should know. Some women practiced it in those days. It is still in effect.
God gave us a body and its faculties. He did not say and/or expect that we should abuse it as having sex whenever one gets the feeling and so wishes. This is the problem among the majority of people in the world.
There are some people who cannot do without sex. They want it all the time. Some of them are sex maniacs and addicted to it. Whenever some men meet a woman the first thing they want, even prior to getting to know the woman, is sex. These should see a psychiatrist.
Here’s what ensues. After they get their fill, they turn away. The woman may never see them again. Those types of relationships may produce a baby.
The woman may not be able to get financial assistance; she may not be in a position to support the baby and she may not receive support to assist her to keep the baby. She might decide to abort the baby. Therefore, prior to making comments and being critical of those women who sadly, aborted their babies, not knowing the reason why, you must do a research about this.
You are also informing the world that you purchase condoms. You are not ashamed to state that you have been indulging in this since you were a teenager when you should be a school child and act as one.
Many of you do not realize that it is also stifling a baby from being born while you enjoy sex, throwing away what which will produce the baby. You are no different than those who abort their babies. Condoms let you have free sex, whenever you feel like it and as much as you want without the responsibility of getting pregnant. The idea is to have sex and not to procreate. They are both murders even though in a different manner. None are pleasing to God.
There are some Catholic Websites on Pro-Life. I suggest that you do some research about this and read them. Be informed and what God wants for each and everyone of us and expects from us. Keep in mind, what we sow we shall surely reap.

How can using a condom be considered as murder? And what is wrong in a responsible person saying she bought her own condom and not depend on her partner for her own protection? Every time a woman has sex is there a baby? Why then are there so many married couples who do not have children? Why are there so many people who want children and one or both of the partners are unable too?
Let us not get carried away. The fact is we are human beings and humans will experiment (especially young children) and both men and women should exercise caution if they do not want to start a family. The alternative is worse.

For all the people who’s gonna jump on the “it’s a woman’s right to choose” train, I’m gonna say that you’re absolutely correct. It was the woman’s right to choose to have sex now deal with it. In the case of rape, I’m very sympathetic, but we can’t deal with evil with evil. If the woman can’t afford to have raise the child, then there are plenty people in Dominica willing to adopt and the government should start thinking of a social program that would cover these situations. Resulting to killing should never be the answer.

Surely there were more uplifting calypsos sang this year that the Social Justice and Peace can select from.
