Caribbean hotels raise over US$51,000 for Dominica

dhtaThe Dominica Hotel and Tourism Association (DHTA) and the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA) spearheaded “Caribbean Hotels Unite for Dominica,” a joint fundraising initiative and online auction raising US$51,785 in an effort to bring financial aid to the people of Dominica affected by the Tropical Storm Erika.

The August 2015 storm unleashed 12 inches of rain on the island, causing extensive flooding, loss of life and more than US$400 million in damage.

“Caribbean Hotels Unite for Dominica,” conceived by CHTA Acting President and President-Elect Karolin Troubetzkoy, featured 57 Caribbean vacation packages, all donated by hotels across the Caribbean region and auctioned on CharityBuzz.com, an online charity auction platform with a global reach of 125,000+ registered bidders in 109 countries.

The just-completed auction raised US$51,785, which was received on a designated DHTA / Caribbean Hotels Unite for Dominica account created solely for the management of these funds. The funds will be distributed in Dominica under guidelines created by a joint CHTA/DHTA committee.

“It was both humbling and heart-warming to see how quickly and enthusiastically Caribbean hoteliers responded to this assistance campaign further reiterating we are, in-fact, One Caribbean, and can rely on each other in times of need,” said Troubetzkoy.

“We are grateful to the CHTA, our regional umbrella association, for seeing the need in Dominica and extending the reach of this fundraising initiative to its regional network of hotel and tourism associations,” remarked Stephanie Astaphan, DHTA Executive Vice President.

Labour is moving forward while the Uneducated Wicked People continue to talk. We are raising funds for recovery…they are licking their festering wounds after the embarrassing loss on the Baroness Scotland issue. Their party is ruined. RUINED!!!!

What has happened to all of the monetary donations as well as donated supplies that DA received for Erika\’s damage? There does not seem to be an accounting for all of this to date.

Inquiring minds would like to know because we are not hearing from the administration , we the people have a right to know how those donations are been used , we need the PM to come forward with answers we need to know what is happening . I notice that some of the projects that will be under taken will be done by some donors directly and that’s very good news , it’s reassuring to know those funds will not be going in the hands of the administration .
