Sea swells could affect L’Express Des Isles during the WCMF

As the World Creole Music Festival (WCMF) kicks off at the Windsor Park Stadium on Friday, the Dominica Festivals Committee (DFC) said it is keeping a watchful eye on the weather.

Chairman of the DFC, Colin Piper, said on Thursday he understands that the country may be anticipating sea swells which could have an impact on the berthing of the L’ Express Des Isle in Roseau.

“One of the other areas we are watching is the weather,” he stated. “We have been in contact with the people of Whitchurch as it relates to the Ferry and berthing of the ferry. I understand from the Met Office’s website that we may be anticipating sea swells, and the sea swells will impact the berthing or the docking of the ferry.”

In fact, he said, that problem was experienced last year.

“Many may not know but the Ferry was diverted to Portsmouth, which is the alternate location,” he stated. “So I have already alerted Whitchurch to make sure that there is a plan in place if, for whatever reason, that happens.”

Piper stated further that according to data provided by L’ Express Des Isle, the island is anticipating about 1,900 visitors on the ferry from St Lucia, Guadeloupe and Martinique.

“It will require great logistic if the ferry has to be reassigned or relocated to Portsmouth in terms of transporting people down there,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Marketing Executive of WCMF Leroy “Wadix” Charles has appealed to patrons to be on their best behavior during the WCMF.

“We are looking for positive feedbacks because this is something positive for Dominica. My appeal is to inform our brothers and sisters to be on our best behavior,” he stated. “Forget differences and let us celebrate with creole music, creole culture and opportunities is there for three nights. We know that we are in peak season with our politics here. Let’s just forget that for three nights and let’s celebrate life, love and music and Creole entertainment at the World Creole Music Festival…”

@Concern citizen. The amount is 1,900, not 19,000. And YES, 1,900 can be brought to the island. The boat carries more than three hundred people, I always travel on the ferry, before and after the festival, and during the year. So get the Stats and the Maths right.

The World Creole Music Festival has gotten better and better each year under the Divine Labor Party. As a matter of fact, every Labor Party social event is always fun and properly attended. This year will be no different. Our party has the money to ensure that people are transported to Roseau in the event that the ferry is diverted to Portsmouth. So, have no fear the event will roll out as planned and it will be another “Fest” or should i say Fete to remember.
When you look at Dominica and the successful workings of the wonderful and Divine Labor Party you can’t help but to be filled with awe and admiration. I, for sure, will be attending all three nights of the World Creole Music Festival as a proud Laborite. I plan to be dressed in red each night to show my love and support for my blessed Prime Minister and his team of brilliant Ministers who has given us cause to celebrate being Dominican. The show must go on!

Mr. Piper, I respect you nut I think you have to get the Stats and the Maths right.

Note the ferry passenger capacity is about 300, lets say patron/visitors/residence start coming from Monday 20th – Sunday 25th October, 2014, at three trips a day, I think the 19000 quoted is far fetch.
