The President of the Dominica Association of Administrative Professionals (DAAP), Junella Trotman is back on island from having attended the Caribbean Association of Administrative Professionals (CAAP) Council Meeting XXVI and Biennial Conference and Convention XIII which was held August 16th– 24th, 2014 on the Carnival Freedom.
Trotman received the only award given for innovative president of the Southern Caribbean for 2012-2014 as well as the President’s award for recognition for her outstanding performance and continuous contributions to the success of the CAAP.
Milestone awards were presented to the Turks and Caicos Island and Barbados who attained 30 and 40 years respectively; and Trinidad and Jamaica 45 years respectively.
Jamaica also received the Membership Achievement Award.
In attendance were Administrative Professionals from Barbados, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Vincent, Trinidad & Tobago and Turks & Caicos. Representatives from Jamaica and Guyana were unable to attend the convention this year.
The Dominica Association of Administrative Professionals (DAAP) and some other member territories also received Certificate of Membership for the period 2012-2014.
CAAP is the umbrella body for member Administrative Professional Associations in the various CARICOM countries.
Since 2012, CAAP is run by a decentralized executive made up of persons from the various Caribbean islands.
The 2012-2014 President, Cyndie Demming of St. Kitts was reelected as the president of CAAP for 2014-2016 as well as some other executive members, were also reelected.
However, there were two replacements on the CAAP executive;for the positions of 2nd Vice President which was held by Marcia Kirby of Jamaica and replaced
by Sandra D. Hanfield of Turks & Caicos and Honorary Secretary which was held by Joan Heywood of Guyana, and replaced by Bernadine Daniel of Barbados.
The major part of the activities over the period was professional development sessions centered on the theme: “The Competitive Edge.”
The main presenter of the training was Kelly Simmons III of the United States; the M.A.D. Motivator, Motivational Speaker/Youth Mentor, Global Career Development Facilitator/Professional Development Trainer. Mrs. Jennifer Hinkson, past CASAP President and Protocol Administrator of the UWI Cave Hill Campus, Barbados
presented a session on official protocol at events.
Following the training, each participant received a Certificate of Participation.
During those eight days at sea, CAAP was able to transact its affairs and member territories each presented a report on the activities of their associations for the period March 2013 – August 2014.
Part of the plans of CAAP is a finishing School, which the new executive will execute.
Council Meeting XXVII carded for July 2015 might be held either in Dominica or St. Vincent and no proposal was made for a venue for Council Meeting XXVIII and Biennial Conference and Convention XIV.
However, the new CAAP executive will make that decision.
