Dominica – The Caribbean’s hikers paradise

We paused for a minute to take in the clean air and to admire the natural surroundings of the rain forest, as we were about to complete another segment of the Waiti- Kubuli National Trail.

It was a few hours before dusk, and another shower had just ended; adding a fresh touch to the undergrowth, as the humming birds resumed their search for nectar, in this unspoiled environment.

By then, this was just one of the familiar sites along the trail as we made our way to the main road that leads to a ‘must have’ as the tour guide put it after a day’s journey.

We were then ushered into huge golden brown sulphur pools surrounded by ferns and carefully manicured hedges.

At first the water seemed hot, but as we went further into the pool we realized how cold we actually were, and allowed the unseen hands of the sulphur spa to carefully massage our weary bones as we closed our eyes and savoured the moment.

Not far away someone was cooking on an open fire as the aroma of fresh seasonings blended with smoked meat, coconut milk, ground provisions and some water and flour dumplings combined in an iron pot slowly drifted our way.

I couldn’t wait to relish the taste and wash it down with a toast of freshly squeezed juice or a cold Kubuli beer, the pride of Dominica.

That time my only thought was “I’m home!’.

The Waitu kubuli National trail is one of the world’s longest walks.

It is a link from Scott’s head from the south of the island and takes you through a network of villages of fourteen (14) segments filled with captivating sites, beautiful flora and funa, and wildlife.

The trail ends at Capuchin in the north of the island famous for a breath taking view of the Caribbean Sea and the first place of settlement by the Country’s indigenous people.

As you move along the trail, be sure to patronize the local bars, craft shops and the farmers as you move deeper and deeper unto the trail.

There are also resting points and accommodations if you become exhausted and you need to have your strength renewed.

Word of caution: Don’t go hiking alone. Gather some friends or family, explore Dominica and hire a guide!

I assure you they are very informational and friendly and know the trail! It can be quite distressing to get lost all alone or without help!

The trail will also lead to the country’s first settlers the Kalinago’s on the eastern side of the country; there you’ll find the Kalinago Barana Aute (a model Kalinago village) as well as the l’escalier tete chien and centipede trail.

And then when all is said and done, one needs to relax and unwind in the luxury of comfortable acommodations.

They are everywhere depending on your taste, one can be found all around the island.

From business to pleasure to nature lovers Dominica caters to your every needs.

Most of all the service providers are sure to give you a little of Dominica’s sunshine in their smiles!

Feel to get down and boogie? Or enjoy some soothing music? You can choose from a variety of bars, like JR’s Bar and Grill in the city; a local hot spot with plenty of good food, good music, interesting drinks and live DJ’s to make you dance the night away.

There’s also Davo’s bar and Melvina’s in Pointe Mitchelle there you’re sure to find the days catch of carefully prepared steamed fish and other sea food favourites.

Be a bit more sophisticated, the place to be is at Krazy Kokonuts entertainment centre at Castle Comfort, where you’ll find from the sumptuous foods to the entertainment a step above the rest.

Don’t forget to take a close up look the island’s treasures, they take the form of rivers, valleys, waterfalls, lakes; 2rd largest boiling lake in the world, our botanic gardens, our architectures and rich history.

What are you waiting for? The hiker’s paradise is only a reservation away!

Come! Renew your strength; feed your mind, body and soul.

Still wondering why Dominica should be your next destination? Come taste the Waitu kubuli National Trail.

An ultimate experience, served with a soothing massage from the sulphur spas with a taste of nature in every bite, and peace of mind that takes you that closer to heaven.

Make Dominica your next choice for all that and much more. Better yet? Make it your home!

I did that Scotts Head portion too. There has been no danger of getting raped, mugged or killed. Come on people stop giving our country bad publicity.

What is your problem? Recently visited for two months time of my life saw parrots, orchids, amazing views ever where. Kind people each with their own interesting view points and trials and tribulations. Perhaps your negative blasphemy and bad vibes are best kept where ever it is your tortured soul resides. Leave the beauty and unspoiled nature for the rest of the world to enjoy. Less kindly put the trails are amazing if you did not have a good time maybe you are an ass that antagonizes people every where you go and it was only the kindness of the Dominican people that prevented you from getting the beat down you deserve for being a rude , loud , negative person. Dominica does not need negative attitude from pompous foreigners who have all the solutions to Dominica’s ” problems”….

Have hiked Picard to Penville, Diablotin, Boiling lake 3 times over the years, Stowe Estate to Scots Head, never an incident , always the best time. Name yourself so called “resident” why not just go by your real name hater? Why the delusion of reality, why stray from the truth? Are you in politricks or just off your medication and your phycosis ( general insane in the brain ) is acting up again?
