Elford Henry to be given official funeral

Elford Henry

The Cabinet of Dominica has taken a decision to give an “official funeral” to former member of the Dominica parliament Elford Henry who died at the Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) just over a week ago at the age of 79.

Speaking to DBS news, acting Prime Minister Ambrose George who made the official announcement described the late Elford Henry as “a dedicated Dominican who contributed significantly to the development of Dominica in politics and local government.”

“The Cabinet of Dominica took a decision (on July 24, 2012) to award an official funeral to the late Elford Henry who has made a significant contribution to Dominica’s political landscape,” George said.

The acting Prime Minister said the funeral of the late Elford Henry will be held on Saturday August 4, 2012 at Wesley and will involve the usual protocols of an official funeral. Flags on all public buildings will be flown at half staff on that day in respect for the deceased former parliamentarian.

Cabinet members, members of parliament and representatives of the diplomatic community in Dominica are expected to attend the funeral.

Former health minister John Fabien was also given an official funeral when he was laid to rest in Grand Bay a few weeks ago.

It is a Government Policy that former Parliamentarians be given official funerals. So there is not choice in the matter. Current and Past Prime Ministers get a State Funeral
